01:47<somiaj>k-man: selecting in chromiums address bar and pasting works just fine for me. Note you have to actually select it, if you just let it autoselct it won't work.
01:48-!-mladen [~mladen@94.190.188.75] has joined #debian
01:48<colcha>hi guys!
01:49<colcha>guys, I'm having a hard time with grub after installed debian 8 stable (32bits) on a system that already has Ubuntu 16.04 (64bits)
01:49<colcha>can someone please help me with this?
01:49-!-mladen [~mladen@94.190.188.75] has quit []
01:50<somiaj>colcha: you want to dual boot? What os do you want to control grub?
01:50-!-baumas [~baumas@75-168-211-218.mpls.qwest.net] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
01:51<colcha>Yes, I want to dual boot. Right now, I can only boot with debian, the Ubuntu's entrys got messed...
01:52<somiaj>colcha: only one of the oses should control grub, pick the one you want to control grub.
01:52<somiaj>colcha: if you choose debian, install the os-prober package, it should autodetect the ubuntu install and make it bootable.
01:52<colcha>Debian it is then.
01:52<somiaj>colcha: if you want to chain load grub you'll have to be a little more creative
01:53<colcha>Ok, I've installed the os-prober package, should I update-grub and reboot?
01:54<somiaj>colcha: yse update-grub, you can reboot, or just look at the output to see if it detected ubuntu

01:56-!-Q-Master^Work [~q-master@217.175.38.170] has joined #debian
01:57<k-man>somiaj, ah thanks, yes, that works
01:58<k-man>still, kind of annoying but at least that works around the issue
01:58<colcha>Ok, now it detects Ubuntu, but I can note that the menu its still messy... It made one entry, for each system with each kernel. (sorry for my english btw)
01:59-!-qaz [~qaz@173.74.190.20] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
01:59<somiaj>k-man: yea the select to copy requires you actually select, and switching tabs messes with it too. There are some clipboard managers that make this slightly easier (and sync the two clipboards) if wanted.
02:00<somiaj>colcha: unless you manually make your own menu the scripts are just going to detect every kernel and add an entry to it.
02:00<k-man>somiaj, yeah, I was trying to be all unixy and stick with the 2 clipboards but in practice I'm finding it annoying
02:01<k-man>somiaj, pressling Ctrl+l to select the address bar, selects the address but doesn't copy it to primary which is probably where I've been going wrong
02:01<somiaj>k-man: well they were made for different reasons. But the with the select to copy one, just rember you have to actually select what you want right before you copy to be safe, and auto selections won't register.
02:01<somiaj>k-man: a clipboard manager would sync to two so eitehr way will allows middle mouse button to paste it
02:02<somiaj>k-man: note they also keep history (which might be a security issue if you use a password manager like I do)
02:03<colcha>uhm... I didn't expect that behavior xD And one last observation, I'm using lvm to manage partitions, and the grub's scripts also mess the OS name, ther kernel parm, and the volumes
02:03-!-olinuxx [~capturixe@ANancy-653-1-686-108.w92-138.abo.wanadoo.fr] has joined #debian
02:03<colcha>is there a simple fix for that behavior?
02:03<somiaj>I wouldn't know. I don't use dual boot or lvm
02:04<somiaj>colcha: check the scripts in /etc/grub.d/ and /etc/grub.d/README (you can make your own custom scripts to generate enteries if you don't like the ones the os-prober script is generating)
02:06<colcha>ok, I'll do that! Very pleased by your help! thanks!
02:07<k-man>thanks somiaj

05:00<narcan>hi, in libreoffice5 writer, when I want to put a circle (with basic shape button) on my document, it put it in blue and without transparency. It is the default behaviour. How can I change this behaviour? I would like to have a red circle with 100% of transparency. thanks

11:42<Walex>scootergrisen: that is not a question with enough details, like desktop environment etc. However it may be enough to give you some general information...
11:43<Walex>scootergrisen: in most GUIs there are "global" and "application" keycombinations.
11:44<Walex>scootergrisen: *usually* "global" keycombinations are defined by "global" programs like the window manager and the "dock"/"launcher", but sometimes application can register "global" keycombinations that conflict with each other, and this *may* be happening in your case.
11:45<Walex>scootergrisen: probably the #GNOME channel on Freenode can help you better listing which keycombinations are being defined by which application.

12:59<somiaj>Aquarius: all you have to do on the linux side is install the ssh packgae (sshd which is a common thing that is installed) and then give the user an account on the linux server they can login to
12:59<somiaj>Aquarius: sftp is part of ssh, the main issues are a) the user needs an account that has permsisions to access the data, and b) issues with giving the user an account, you can do things like limit the user to only use sftp (and not allow ssh login) or chroot them, all done in the sshd_config file
13:00<somiaj>If you don't need the user to have a full account, use some webserver like lighthttpd or something and maybe set up some simpler permisions if you dn't want it open to the internet

14:43<somiaj>jmcnaught: the wm doesn't depend on the xclient and server, only the libs. (at least the wm I use falls into that category)
14:43<r4fkramer_>yes, I have a Debian Wheezy with gnome here, others are basically with Mate
14:43<somiaj>r4fkramer_: for the xserver, xserver-xorg or xserver-xorg-core should get the server, then install the wm you want.
14:44<r4fkramer_>but for this installation, I don't want a complete de, want it more close to a traditional Debian Server
