01:29<fixitman>hi all
01:30<jm_>Katronix: and which one is installed?
01:30<namoamitabuddha>I want to put a Debian Live Image to a systemrescuecd live usb, where grubefi and syslinux is installed.
01:31<fixitman>anyone have advice on choosing debian
01:31<fixitman>i am uncertain which one to choose
01:31<fixitman>i want an iso because i am using it as a virtual machine
01:31<jm_>fixitman: and which ones are you choosing from?
01:32<fixitman>well when i choose the cd there was like 5 or 6 cd to be downloaded and the file ext ended with .torrent
01:32<fixitman>how i can get it without the .torrent
01:33<fixitman>because the Vm only uses .iso
01:33<jm_>https://www.debian.org/CD/http-ftp/ - I would recommend netinst ISO
01:33<fixitman>ok a network install?
01:34<Katronix>jm_, libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-vivid:i386 is one of them, there are some nvidia based ones also, but not sure how to get their names now.
01:34<jm_>it installs the base from CD and everything else from a mirror, if that doesn't work, use normal CD1
01:34<jm_>Katronix: are you using ubuntu?
01:34<Katronix>jm_, no I'm using Debian
01:35<jm_>Katronix: I can't find any packages named libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-vivid in debian
01:35<jm_>also keywords LTS and vivid point at ubuntu
01:36<Katronix>jm_, it probably is, I only tried to install it because a program suggested it would fix the issue
01:37<jm_>Katronix: we don't support mixing packages like that
01:37<fixitman>jm: thanks
01:37<jm_>fixitman: no problem
01:37<fixitman>it is downloading now
01:37<fixitman>i have win 10 pro but i have hyper V so i can run multiple os
01:38<Katronix>jm_, sorry it seems I didn't actually install it, I only attempted to
01:38<jm_>Katronix: so what does «dpkg -S libgl.so.1» say then?
01:39<jm_>use the paste site if it's more than one line
01:39<Katronix>jm_, dpkg-query: no path found matching pattern *libgl.so.1*
01:40<jm_>Katronix: so install the one relevant for your graphics driver
01:40<Katronix>jm_, okay that was my question, how do I know which one I need?

01:46<jm_>Katronix: that one depends on libgl1-nvidia-glx, which provides libGl.so.1 - so you have a real mess there, try installing it again

10:04<rudi_s>darkstarRays: "what's an inconsistent state?" - basically what the term says. The file system can get confused which data is new and old when it's interrupted while writing data. Modern file systems can recover from this state (one possible solution is journaling) but it's still something that should be prevented. For example by unmounting the file systems.

21:49<k-man>I'm experiencing some random crashes in thunderbird
21:50<k-man>unfortunatley they are infrequent enough that disabling all my plugins and then re-enabling one by one would both take a long time, and be impractical because I need most of them for my work

21:50<k-man>i'm guessing it is most likely a plugin but i have no evicence
21:51<k-man>also, I don't get the crash report dialogue after it crashes. is that an option I have to turn on or is it on by default?

22:11<JcS>good night
22:13<JcS>If I own 2 partitions on HD, both NTFS, one for files and one with Windows; if I replace the windows by Debian, I will be able to access the files from another partition?
22:14<jmcnaught>JcS: yes, Debian can read NTFS. You should do a backup first though, in case something goes wrong

22:21<jmcnaught>JcS: for read-only access NTFS support is built into the kernel. there is an ntfs-3g package for read/write access. it is a package, that will probably be preinstalled if you install a desktop environment. https://wiki.debian.org/NTFS

23:04<TopHatGuy>and a usb to ethernet adapter with an ethernet cord plugged in on the front of my pc (cord wouldn't fit on port in back)
23:05<TopHatGuy>debian install finds two interfaces; eth0 and eth1
