00:52<storge>you'll have to mount the android with something else. jmtpfs or something

00:53<storge>oh i see, i didn't know that
00:54<chappati21>Is that helpful?
00:54<chappati21>Okay. I have downloaded netinst from debian servers. Someone told me that will be good
00:54<storge>well, what you really need is to install some important things for your wifi like wpa_supplicant (and it's deps) using sneakernet or use a cat5 to connect to your router. you need some packages.
00:55<storge>well, netinstall is --for a network install-- so it kinda requires/assumes you have a network connection to pull the rest of what you need down to install as you wish
00:55<storge>do you have a cat5 cable to connect the desktop to the router?
00:56<chappati21>Ethernet?
00:56<storge>yes
00:56<chappati21>I dont have
00:56<chappati21>Only usb
00:56<lyrias>ADSL
00:56<chappati21>Its ethernet based i know
00:56<storge>sounds like you need the sneakernet: usb to another computer, download packages you need (hopefully with their dependencies) and walk back to your computer, use dpkg -i to install whatever .debs are on your usb
00:57<chappati21>Pls list me that packages
00:57<chappati21>If u can
00:57<chappati21>Oh i forgot to tell u

01:00<jm_>«man sources.list» tells you

01:01<storge>chappati21: for wpasupplicant http://paste.debian.net/788508/ ...but BEFORE you go download all those, check which of those you already have in system. some of them you already have.
01:01<storge>the trouble is you might have a hard time getting the right versions.
01:02<lyrias>strange
01:02<storge>if i were you, i'd just reinstall with a more complete base. save netinstall for when you are more familiar. you need at least wpa_supplicant but with a bigger install you will have more features.
01:02<chappati21>Can you link me debian 8 full install cd with gnome? ;o

04:41<willemb>thanks for that link. it looks exactly like the problem we have
04:41<willemb>i wonder if i can install 3.16.7-ckt20-1+deb8u4 on wheezy :)
04:44<babilen>There is no official backport
04:44<babilen>Is upgrading to jessie not possible?
04:44<babilen>3.16.7-ckt25-2+deb8u3~bpo70+1 is the version in wheezy-backports btw
04:49<willemb>babilen: it is possible. but will be quite an undertaking
04:49<willemb>we have about 2000 servers
04:51<willemb>and its not like they are all behind a load balancer, using shared storage and such, they are basically individual web/mail servers, each hosting their own unique sites
04:53<babilen>Hmm, pity that the bug has been stagnant for so long

04:57<willemb>we need jessie for a supported ruby environment as well. but the tool our customers use to manage their mailboxes doesn't work on jessie, because its endpoint is a cdb file on boxes, so we have to fix that first. in the mean time, dns lookups are failing because of this bug

09:39<stevenm_>babilen, ok in terms of 'officialness' (if there is such a thing)... are we saying (in order)... apt , apt-get , aptitude ?
09:39<visarion>Hello ! I need to make a package available in apt.
09:40<stevenm_>or is apt like aptitude - a 3rd party alternative ?
09:40<visarion>spice-webdavd is an important service that makes folder sharing possible using SPICE. It should be installed by VMs, but unfortunately this is not currently possible in Debian guest machines
09:40<babilen>stevenm_: They are all first class
09:40<visarion> what would be the required steps to add a package to apt ?
09:40<stevenm_>babilen, surely if I wrote my own utility that called dpkg and meddled with the kinds of config files that apt-get does... you wouldn't say my utility was first class?
09:41<babilen>stevenm_: Well, aptitude is not necessarily installed on every box so .. in a way .. it might be considered "less" than apt/apt-get, but if you need its features there is no problem with using it
09:41<babilen>visarion: Have you packaged that software already or are there packages for it?
09:42<stevenm_>hmm is apt-get likely to become a symlink to apt in the future? is apt a replacement?
09:42<stevenm_>otherwise we're just confusing the hell out of people for no reason
09:42<babilen>stevenm_: apt is simply another frontend .. there are no plans to deprecate apt-get though
09:43<stevenm_>so 3 cli front ends all made by the core of debian devs lol
09:43<visarion>babilen: I am not really sure what you mean. It is currently available in Fedora and Cent Os, using dnf
09:43<babilen>visarion: In which case it hasn't been packaged for Debian then?

09:44<babilen>stevenm_: Don't forget about dpkg, dselect, wajig, ...
