04:23<dusty>is this the right place to ask a Debian dovecot question?
04:24<OdyX>!ask
04:24<dpkg>If you have a question, just ask! For example: "I have a problem with ___; I'm running Debian version ___. When I try to do ___ I get the following output ___. I expected it to do ___." Don't ask if you can ask, if anyone uses it, or pick one person to ask. We're all volunteers; make it easy for us to help you. If you don't get an answer try a few hours later or on debian-user@lists.debian.org. See <smart questions><errors>.
04:27<dusty>im running Debian Jessie and im trying to setup postfix and dovecot without ssl. it install fine and my IMAP Works but pop3 and SMTP does NOT. how do i remove ssl completely so im just using clear text?
04:27<gg>!errors
04:27<dpkg>If you don't tell us the exact error messages you get, we can't tell you what's wrong, and it's also useful to know exactly what command you're typing. Please look for the *first* error that occurs, as this is often the cause of later errors -- ask me about <localized errors> too. Please don't paste in the channel, use a pastebin instead; ask me about <pastebin>.

13:13<eightyeight>leba2: so, are you using timedatectl(8) as shipped with systemd(8), or the `ntp' package with an `ntp.service' unit file?
13:14<Vercas>Greetings. I am attempting to do some funky shenanigans with TTYs in Debian 8, and I don't even know where to begin...
13:15<Vercas>I use Debian 8 as dom0 in Xen.
13:15<Vercas>(Qubes, to be precise)
13:15<Vercas>I wish to redirect serial output from a VM directly into a TTY.
13:15<leba2>eightyeight: I install the ntp package
13:16<Vercas>I believe I've got the libvirt part covered, but I'm not sure how to make a TTY simply show output, instead of asking me to log in.
13:16<eightyeight>leba2: and `timedatectl status' shows that the systemd-timesyncd(8) service is not running?
13:16<Vercas>All the Googlin' around shows me solutions for ustart or whatever it was called. Nothing for systemd. :(
13:17<Vercas>Could somebody tell me where can I fiddle with TTYs in systemd?
13:19<leba2>eightyeight: it says "ntp enabled = no", but "ntp sync-ed = yes". But changing ntp enabled = no to yes doesn't make change.

13:33<petn-randall>Guest208: In IRC you might need to wait a couple of minutes for people to read your message and know the answer.
13:33<petn-randall>Guest208: Everything below 60 minutes of waiting still has a good chance of being answered.
13:34<mtn>Guest208: if you repeat your question in 15 minutes, new folks will see it, too
13:35<petn-randall>Guest208: First thing: Don't use unetbootin.
13:35<petn-randall>!unetbootin
13:35<dpkg>UNetbootin (Universal Netboot Installer) allows creation of bootable USB drives for a variety of Linux distributions. http://unetbootin.sf.net/ Not recommended for use with Debian CD/DVD images, as it mangles the installer in cruel and unusual ways, resulting in hard to debug problems. Ask me about <hybrid images>, <usb install>, <win32diskimager>.

13:36<blast007>Guest208: also, the firmware-b43-installer package needs Internet access to run since it has to download from broadcom's site
13:36<petn-randall>Guest208: Do you rely on the firmware during installation? Sometimes you can simply use the Ethernet port to finish the installation, then you don't need the firmware for your wifi at all.
13:36<petn-randall>Guest208: The other option is to download the firmware netinstaller, which contains the (non-free) firmware, which allows you to use your wifi etc.
13:36<petn-randall>!firmware installer
13:36<dpkg>Debian-Installer is able to load additional <firmware>, by including it within installation media or supplying on removable media (e.g. USB stick, floppy). See http://www.debian.org/releases/jessie/amd64/ch06s04 . To include firmware within Debian <netboot> images, see http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/NetbootFirmware . See also <firmware images>.
13:36<blast007>the firmware image probably won't contain that firmware

18:20<petn-randall>awal1: It's irrelevant. If you ask the same question within minutes on several places, you end up wasting peoples time if someone looks at your problem in channel A, but you end up saying "I already got support in channel B, thanks anyway". That's just considered impolite at best.
