09:18<MikeDebian>Anyone here has some experience with OpenVPN?
09:18<jean_>I am getting nautilus: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libgnome-autoar-0.so.0: undefined symbol: archive_entry_is_encrypted. This is on debian 4.3.3-5 x86_64

09:22<cruncher>MikeDebian, just ask your question
09:23<cruncher>someone may be able to help
09:23<MikeDebian>here is my problem. I've a server running Debian 8.5 on a local network along with other machines/devices. I want both the server and the local network to be reached from the outside using the VPN

09:24-!-Gordon_Freeman [~uczen@213-238-79-185.adsl.inetia.pl] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
09:24<MikeDebian>the local network is running behind a router providing internet access (this router has no static route configuration available but has port forwarding)
09:24<MikeDebian>so, I installed OpenVPN on the Debian server

09:25<MikeDebian>and it is running. I can connect to the VPN from the outside and I can connect/ping to the server from the outside
09:25<MikeDebian>however, I can't ping/access any other machine on the local network
09:25<cruncher>MikeDebian, did you enable ip_forwarding on the server?
09:25<MikeDebian>so, openvpn is not routing traffic to the local network nor to the internet
09:25<MikeDebian>yes I did
09:26<cruncher>and firewall rules on the server (preventing it)?
09:26-!-wCPO [~kristian@188.228.31.139] has joined #debian
09:27<MikeDebian>even with no firewall rules on the server the problem exists so it seems the problem is not the firewall

09:27<MikeDebian>I also turned off firewall on the client machine (remote machine accessing the VPN) but still the same
09:28<MikeDebian>it seems the problem is routing tables or something like that... or the vpn itself

09:30<MikeDebian>is always mandatory to add a route on the client? shouldn't the vpn server handle it automatically?
09:31<cruncher>that has nothing to do with the server, the client must know where to route the packet
09:31<cruncher>the standard route is only for the server itself, not for its subnet
09:32<cruncher>if you use network-manager you can simply configure it when going to ipv4->routes, and if you connect from the terminal then you have to use the route add command somewhere
09:32-!-owad [~owad@192.173.188.182] has quit []
09:32<MikeDebian>yes I understand.. let me give a shot. I read somewhere adding a route on the client machine would only be needed on a linux machine, not a windows one.. and the client from where I'm accessing the vpn server is windows

10:44<cruncher>MikeDebian, i asked for the server ip/subnet too, cant know which one is it
10:44<cruncher>anyway, the way is quite simple, you need to add the subnet you want to reach. if your server ip is 192.168.3.1 and you want to reach the 192.168.3.0 subnet, you need to do a route add 192.168.3.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.3.1

14:08<oscarr>Hi guys, I know thats probably not best place to ask questions about mail server but Im really in doubt. So, Im switching server in OVH and I moved everything without any problems except mailboxes. When trying just copy. Server crashes. I found ImapCopy tool but it needs to connect to trough mail.domain because when using other domain bound to this server - im getting login error. The question is: How to let ImapCopy to connect trough
14:08<oscarr>domain that is not domain of email address (i can do it trough webmail service)?

16:56<stephen0001>CutMeOwnThroat: it seems I solved the problem with a flag I never used before: --password-store=basic

16:58<CutMeOwnThroat>stephen0001, hm, interesting
16:58<stephen0001>indeed
16:58<CutMeOwnThroat>but what was actually the problem before?
16:59<stephen0001>http://pasteboard.co/5PK1G1tk4.png
16:59<CutMeOwnThroat>I actually would want to switch it to gnome or kde wallet
16:59<CutMeOwnThroat>yes, but you just type your user password in that once to unlock the wallet
16:59<CutMeOwnThroat>or actually it should get unlocked when you log in if you use gnome/kde (for the respective wallet)
17:00<stephen0001>that message should appear in lightdm when you lock the screen or whatsoever
17:00<stephen0001>I never had such issue before
17:00<stephen0001>plus I'm on XFCE4
17:00<CutMeOwnThroat>should appear?

17:02<CutMeOwnThroat>that's the dialog to unlock
17:02<CutMeOwnThroat>but this dialog is for letting chromium access the kde/gnome wallet and the passwords stored inside
17:03<CutMeOwnThroat>which is good, because the "basic" password store just saves your passwords as plain-text in a file
17:04<CutMeOwnThroat>even more annoying than that is that you can view any saved password with 3 clicks from within chromium
17:04<stephen0001>that's the thing; I don't save passwords
17:04<stephen0001>ever!

19:36<sney>there is no such thing as 'testing-backports
19:38<kadiro>sney, i was using jeesie, but as i need non-free i was forced to use backport kernel so i decided after to change the jessie part from sources.list to testing, that was what i was reading in some pages when googling
19:39<sney>well, if you mix testing and stable that is a very easy way to break your debian system
19:39<sney>if you've installed multiple things from testing at this point you should probably upgrade your whole system to testing (stretch)
19:39<kadiro>sney, i changed all jessie part to testing and dist-upgraded as someone told me to do
19:40<sney>ok. you are running testing. sometimes things in testing are broken, and not all of the mirrors are kept as up to date as they are with stable. try a different mirror and see if you are able to update

23:09<uz1>and im reading atm also about navigating this but im used to the old windows tile system
23:09<uz1>switching windows is my question
23:09<uz1>between multiple chans
23:09<uz1>thank you in advance
23:09<uz1>ohhhhh ALT#
23:09<storge>uz1: that depends on the irc client, but in irssi and weechat, i think alt + number works
23:10<storge>in some, also alt+left/right
23:10<uz1>ahh they both work
23:10<somiaj>uz1: you can also ctrl+n and ctrl+p in irssi for next and previous

23:10<uz1>ok...say i have two chans i wanna watch at once....open another terminal?
23:11<somiaj>uz1: you would have to run irssi (or whatever) inside of screen or tmux to be able to switch to a terminal
23:12<somiaj>(this is thinking without just changing to a new termial, ctlr-alt-f2 for instance)
23:12<storge>uz1: i believe weechat let's you visually split your chat, i'm not sure about that.
23:12-!-wmann [~quassel@wserver.wm1.at] has joined #debian
23:13<uz1>ill try it out
23:13<storge>somiaj: you mean from tty to x and back, so to speak?
23:13<uz1>and keep reading
23:13<storge>uz1: before you go
23:13<uz1>im not leaving ;)
23:13<somiaj>storge: I was more thinking on a machine that isn't running x.
23:14-!-awal1 [~awal1@199.241.132.84] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
23:14<storge>uz1: a hint: screen or tmux are both terminal multiplexers which allow you to split and reconnect to sessions (as somiaj is describing) ...you can log into your computer from work (for example) and connect to your irc chat. then disconnect, drive home, reconnect, and none of us ever see you leave the chat channel. or do the same going between X and tty, which is very helpful when troubleshooting an X
23:14<storge>problem.
23:15<storge>(instead of logging in and out if you run some gui irc client)
