01:17<grep_aar_kash[m]>As I want to try for gsoc this summer
01:17<somiaj>grep_aar_kash[m]: well #packaging is about creating debian packages, may want to start there
01:17<somiaj>also make sure you read the debian new matainers guide, it is good
01:17<somiaj>!nmg
01:17<dpkg>The packaging tutorial (http://deb.li/QYyI) and the New Maintainer's Guide (http://deb.li/3DiDA) are good places to start learning about Debian packaging. You should also ask me about <devref> and <policy> to understand how packages should be maintained and how they should interact with each other. Ask me about <package basics>, <mentors>, <best practices> <build without helper>. http://www.debian.org/devel/
01:17<somiaj>grep_aar_kash[m]: #debian-mentors is for packaging for debian (so a lot of debian policy) and talking about sponsorship

02:53<hubot_>Yesterday, when I was configuring firewall network is stopped working
02:55<somiaj>well I'm not familar with shorewall, but first you should get your network back up. And how you do this depends on what you use to configure your network.

02:57<somiaj>what ahppens when you run ifup eth0

03:05<hubot_>http://notatnik.mekk.waw.pl/archives/60-Konfigurujemy_VPS_-_czesc_1,_przygotowanie.html
03:06<hubot_>In the "firewall" section
03:06<hubot_>Don't worry that it is not in English
03:06<hubot_>Let's read code
03:07<hubot_>You can use google translate
03:08<somiaj>as I said, I don't know shorewall, you'll have to look for some help there. But that is the reason your network configuration is down because the script that tries to bring up the iptables for shorewall fails. Did you get any more errors why it failed? That should help you correct your config
03:09<somiaj>but I won't be able ot just look at it and say change this.
03:10<hubot_>How can I get a more informations about iptables config?

08:43<namosca>Hi all! I dont want to configure any thing manually. Is there any program from apt-get doing this automatically

08:44<namosca>?
08:45<SynrGy>pcmanfm should automount, and it's installed as a part of LXDE. how did you install LXDE?
08:47<namosca>SynrGy, Thanks for the reply! Actually it was the automatic option from the debian isofile: debian-live-8.6.0-amd64-kde-desktop.iso

10:30<namosca>Hi, I just installed Debian LXDE on my laptop and I dont see anyway to watch my battery status. My laptop today just shutted down because I didn see I had no battery. What is the simplest and lightweightest program for a newbie to be able to watch laptop battery as an Icon (instead of typing acpi -V everytime), and is there a way to reduce power comsuption if battery is low? thanks

10:33<SynrGy>also, see powertop
10:33<SynrGy>(for battery usage reduction)
10:34<namosca>SynrGy, Ok, I see that actualy the battery monitor was on, but its a tiny tiny black rectangle near the power button, and it mistakenly shows I have only 0% battery, even if acpi -V says i have 50%
10:35<SynrGy>interesting. so this is probably an issue at a layer lower than the battery monitor
10:37<namosca>SynrGy, what can i do about it?
10:37<SynrGy>dunno. i hate debugging this sort of thing. so many layers :(
10:37<namosca>hmm
10:38<SynrGy>also, over the years those have changed
10:38<SynrGy>and my knowledge is not really current
10:38<SynrGy>maybe someone else here has suggestions for a starting point?
10:39<SynrGy>namosca: see if you can find something written about your model of laptop
10:39<namosca>SynrGy, About the powertop, I tried to isntall it, but it says I already have it... if i try to open it by typing powertop, nothing is there... how to you open the program?

10:45<SynrGy>basically, anything that runs in the system tray and implements the standard for doing that ought to work
10:45<namosca>SynrGy, I have no idea how I would do that :)

10:46<namosca>SynrGy, Somebody says about some file called charge_now, but Its not clear of this wold lead to a solution
10:47<SynrGy>not a file, per se. just a node in the /sys virtual filesystem, i suspect.
10:47<SynrGy>a backports kernel might change what appears in that, though
10:48<SynrGy>(i say this without having reviewed either bug, though)
10:48<grawity>/sys/class/power_supply/*

15:31<genjutsu>And when I say I have tried on various browsers, I mean IE from my windows desktop (which is plugged directly to my router) firefox, chrome. I have even tried from debian on a separate laptop wired and wireless same errors. Sorry my device is a c6300
15:31<genjutsu>well i get the same results from my dell latitude which is running lxde debian
15:32<tomg>c6300 what?

15:36<genjutsu>Yes. I even tried holding the reset button but for some reason it just resets the power and doesn't put to factory settings. I've never had this issue before and have been researching through google. I have found people with this issue and it goes unanswered on many forums. The only similarity I notice between me and these other users is that they have multiple entries for their network adapters (tap) because of use of a vpn. Even on
15:36<genjutsu>my devices that do not have a vpn service installed or ever used, I get the same error. I'm puzzled.
