02:24<tacocat>/etc/fstab as a config file *itself* isn't controlled by a program - it's a conf file for the admin to write themselves
02:25<vld>lordievader, I can't write path with space in it.
02:25<tacocat>but mount is what reads it and mounts stuff
02:25<lordievader>vld: Did you escape it?

16:39<rob_debian>Hi all, I have a question: according debian website, Debian 9.0 Stretch is available for download (official images for Debian installation). But my Debian here is still 8.8, despite the fact I update and upgrade it everyday. I didn't understand why 9.0 is already available for downloading, and not 8.8....
16:39<somiaj>that is what should happen, check your sources.list, it should say 'jessie' and thus you are now running what we call oldstable.
16:40<somiaj>If you want to upgrade you can change jessie to stretch, but you should really read the release notes about upgrading first. This is the prefered way, upgrades between debian versions should not happen automatically. YOu should be there during the upgrade (there is also some stuff you should do first to make sure you don't loose data if something goes wrong)
16:40<somiaj>also using third party repos can cause upgrades to fail.
16:40<rob_debian>Hi somiaj, nice to meet you again :), Please, somiaj, it means I have to rename to 'stretch' in the sources.list to get the new Debian stable ?
16:41<somiaj>read the release notes first though

20:07<sillygoose>Hey, I'm trying to add noapic to grub while booting but I'm not exactly sure where to. Any help?
20:07<blurr>AlexYst, you can try Midori
20:08<txt-file>firefox and chromium have a release exception. So these are probably only web browsers help secure.
20:08<txt-file>sillygoose, /etc/default/grub

20:13<txt-file>sillygoose, are you starting the installer or an installed system?
20:13<sillygoose>I ran the installer, this is an installed system
20:13<AlexYst>txt-file: Ah ... that. I knew Debian did that with Firefox, but I didn't know about Chromium. Firefox refuses to load a page I need though, so I can't use that browser, and Chromium doesn't play nicely with proxies, so using it is too much of a pain.
20:14<txt-file>I use GNU IceCat or Tor Browser Bundle most of the time. Both installed locally without packages.
20:16<AlexYst>Both are based on Firefox though, so I doubt they'll load the page either. As for the Tor Browser Bundle, it refuses to save several key settings, leaving me to have to set them again every time I start the browser. THat's kind of a pain.
20:16<txt-file>AlexYst, You should not customize Tor Browser Bundle.
20:18<AlexYst>txt-file: Then I shouldn't *use* the Tor Browser Bundle. Certain customisations are necessary.
