01:11<jmcnaught>qupzilla probably doesn't get security updates in Debian, I think only firefox-esr and chromium do
01:24<mnuhmnuh_>jmcnaught: not a prob. here. what can a browser do to a box that won't blindly run malware?

01:28<jmcnaught>mnuhmnuh_: we shouldn't assume that Linux is immune to malware anymore. modern browsers are basically full-blown applications runtimes, and it's plausible for a browser exploit to have a cross-platform payload at this point

02:56<DebianSam>Okay, my laptop won't charge, so I can't access the contents of the hard drive. I need to recover those though. I tried putting the 64-bit system hard drive in a 32-bit machine, so that obviously wouldn't boot. Next, I tried running a live Debian system from USB on the 32-bit machine, but it can't read the file system. After decrypting the hard drive (LUKS), it claims no supported file system is present.
02:56<DebianSam>Any idea how I recover my files?

07:43<nickoe_>Hello. I am trying to enabled a distcc slave on a debian8 box, but it seems like one can not connect to it. I wonder if there is a firewall or something on debian. I tired to add it to iptables with iptables -A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 3632 -j ACCEPT but that does not seem to do anything.
07:43<nickoe_>If I try nmap for the port even on localhost it is closed.
07:46<grove>Debian doesn't install any firewall by default. I don't know distcc, but it sounds like your problem might be that nothing is listening on port 3632
07:46<nickoe_>well, yes, sort of.

13:34<mtn>Bscreen, odd. does't work that way for me. peraps something to do with video drivers. and you do not have to use wayland.
13:34<j02>annadane so it seems like my main option is to reinstall in the hope that my dopey self put in the wrong root password twice.
13:34<Bscreen>I reistalled GDM3, gnome and gnome-shell. Not a solution.
13:35<mtn>Bscreen, you can choose xorg or wayland in the login window
13:35<annadane>j02, well, it's as i said, live images were/are broken for a while. i don't know whether they still are. you can, of course, attempt reinstalling, unless someone can confirm the status of using live images

22:40<iKarith>Hey all, I've just returned from my semi-annual "how the hell do I do this?" attempt to "fix" my keyboard map to match my brain (which spent a fair amount of time at university using a mac). Essentially, I don't use LWIN/RWIN (apparently mapped to Super but I wouldn't swear to that?) but I'd like to make that otherwise fairly useless key useful like a Mac's option key.
