07:55<Walex>k-man: fortunately you clarified, because that "more responsive" was ridiculous vague.
07:55<Walex>k-man: you want either more "resolution" or "acceleration".
07:55<k-man>yeah i realised after i typed it
07:55<grawity>either change "libinput Accel Speed" via xinput set-prop, or check whether the systemd-hwdb has correct physical dimensions for the touchpad (used to calculate the DPI)
07:55<einerix>Hi
07:55<k-man>grawity, how do i do the latter?
07:55<jm_>k-man: maybe start by finding which driver it uses, or just experiment with xinput
07:56<k-man>its libinput in xorg
07:56<azzamsa>grove: what method do you use, to install same packages in other debian machine ? , if I often make other machine same as mine, is --get-selections better or I just use any shell script to install list of packages I want ?
07:56<grawity>try looking through https://github.com/systemd/systemd/blob/master/hwdb/60-evdev.hwdb and https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commits/master/hwdb/60-evdev.hwdb
07:57<grawity>well okay those aren't physical dimensions, but reported units
07:58<azzamsa>k-man: I think synaptics have config regarding responsifness , cmiiw.
07:58<k-man>azzamsa, as far as i can tell, my system, on stretch, doesn't use synaptics

07:59<azzamsa>k-man: may I know what method do you use to config your touchpad ?, thanks.

11:12<majcherek128>itd: I was just seeing if anyone could help first ;) ... The issue occurs when plugging in my headphones. Pulseaudio doesn't detect it most of the time, and other times it detects and autoswitches incorrectly to digital output (SPDIF). Thing is, if I use alsamixer and mute the speakers and unmute the headphones and turn up that volume, it works fine. However, then I can't use the buttons on my
11:12<majcherek128>computer (obvious that it's a laptop by now ;) ) to adjust the volume, since it then starts at muted, and then turns up volume on my speakers, and headphones are once again muted. Lastly, I was trying to find info about the bug (google and debian bug reports) and found out in the meantime that plugging my headphones only half way in seems to make it detect them correctly, but then, of course, there's
11:12<majcherek128>no audio, and when I plug them in fully I am back to square one.

11:50<new2tux>i need to have one user able to upload files to all directorys and at the same time apache needs to be allowed to display any added files (get error 503 there a lot) and write logfiles
11:50<new2tux>pretty sure this is the most stupid question

11:51<new2tux>yes, all in /var/www

11:53<majcherek128>Default file permssions should allow the apache-server to read the files.
11:53<new2tux>read is a problem for apache there aswell, i have to give readpermissions after uploading everytime
11:54<majcherek128>What are the file permissions after uploading a file?, should be username:group and 644

"apt-cache policy". Use http://paste.debian.net/ to provide us with this information. Also ask me about <localized errors>.

15:52<renard>Good evening, forgive the faults is google trad: D
15:52<renard>I have to virtualize a debian 7 on a Hyper-v server (PDC SAMBA + apache with an agora project). It was installed on a mdadm array of 2 hdd of 2 tera in mirror (dev / sda dev / sdb = 2Tb) + 2 non-LVM volume (md0 and md1). After several tests in P2V by the network (with esxi lol !!) I had to fall back on a DisktoVHD cold to clone that in a .VHDX. Alas my VHDX is based on the size of the array
15:52<renard>dev / sda-b and not md0-1 (they have managed to resize them) and weighs very heavily whereas there is actually only 30giga of data. So I'm trying to resize the RAID array, and I wanted to know, (as I searched and the answer does not show up clearly) if that's possible.

16:23<bugaloo>hi everyone. that stupid question: I removed all partitions with linux, and grub is still there (grub rescue> )... how can I remove it using a live cd (ubuntu or debian live)

16:24<marioxcc>petn-randall: Good for you, really. It's a matter of chance I guess.

16:44<Halk>I tried my tablet which uses wifi on the same home network. I was able to access the samba share with it. So the problem probably isn't to do with the server it's to do with the client, which is bizarre and I wasn't expecting it

16:48<Halk>The only logical thing would be if this PC was no longer connected to the network, but it is

17:59<digitalboy>How can I install a "minimal" Xorg setup? I'm currently trying with this command: apt-get install --no-install-recommends xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg-video-fbdev xserver-xorg-video-intel (I have an Intel GPU on my laptop) but I'm noticing that also libwayland-client0 and libwayland-server0 will be installed as dependencies, why is it so? I thought that Wayland wasn't necessary for a minimal Xorg setup

18:07<jmcnaught>digitalboy: what is the point of "minimal". If you install without recommended packages, not everything will work as expected.
18:09<digitalboy>jmcnaught Your are right but I would like to know why libwayland-client0 and libwayland-server0 are pulled as dependencies for Xorg installation

20:52<k-man>piper, the problem is its intermittent. and i need tb for my work. and i find it very hard to use without a few of the plugins i use
20:52<k-man>piper, its not really practical for me to run it in safe mode for extended periods of time
20:54<piper>well, the purpose of that is to see if any addons or other things are making it crash
20:54<k-man>i know
20:54<piper>i run 56.0a1 (2017-07-26) (64-bit) which is nightly no problems
20:55<k-man>ok, good to know
20:55<k-man>on debian stretch?
20:55<piper>it's like sid, update 1-2 times a day, sometimes more
20:55<piper>k-man: no, i run sid
20:56<k-man>ah
20:56<piper>i do have it on my stable version though
20:57<piper>i run a sid version and a stable version, stable i boot maybe once a year, not fond of it, and of course siduction (sid)
20:58<piper>same with firefox, i use nightly
20:59<k-man>ok
21:00<piper>i put the ff and tb in /opt
21:02<piper>use command line to install http://paste.debian.net/978581/
21:02<piper>of course switch username ;)

23:39<Epakai>Guest1005: are you installing from the live media?
23:41<jmcnaught>xyzone: "/msg dpkg bat" for troubleshooting information to provide for this kind of problem
23:42<xyzone>jmcnaught, what?
23:44<xyzone>it's not an apt problem, it's a packaging dependency problem server side
23:45<mnuhmnuh>xyzone: "/msg dpkg bat" is what jmcnaught wanted you to type into your irc client. read what it says.
23:45<jmcnaught>xyzone: you're using something other than apt to install packages?

23:45<xyzone>jmcnaught, no
23:46<xyzone>unless the package that provided vulkan support is different, multi arch vulkan is not doable anymore

23:48<mnuhmnuh>xyzone: grepped tracker.debian.org for vulcan, or libgl1-nvidia-glx? or nvidia themselves?
23:48<xyzone>sure, and I pasted that msg to dpkg bot, it responded with nonsense
23:48<jmcnaught>!bat
23:48<xyzone>nvidia-vulkan-common seems to be what provided vulkan support
23:48<dpkg>In order to troubleshoot your problem with apt-get, apt or aptitude we need ALL OF THE FOLLOWING information: 1. complete output of your apt-get/apt/aptitude run (including the command used) 2. output from "apt-cache policy pkg1 pkg2..." for ALL packages mentioned ANYWHERE in the problem, and 3. "apt-cache policy". Use http://paste.debian.net/ to provide us with this information. Also ask me about <localized errors>.
23:49<jmcnaught>xyzone: ^ it told you that?
23:49<xyzone>ok, I messed up pastebin and is ignoring me now, I will do all this in 5 minutes, but it is broken

23:50<mnuhmnuh>nvidia-vulkan-common appears still available to me if i want it. stretch.
23:50<xyzone>it's available. the issue is that apt uninstalls it when installing 32-bit support package
23:51<xyzone>libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386 or nvidia-vulkan-common can't coexist
