02:46<Yst>The mere fact I'm in-channel right now means Wicd has successfully connected to Wi-Fi.
02:46<Yst>I expect I'll have to restart the maching to fix it, but that's always annoying to have to do.

03:25<Yst>I doubt systemd is evil. As long as source code's available, it's likely not evil.
03:25<xormor>Yst, ok.
03:25<Yst>Is the cp command written in Python
03:25<Yst>?
03:25<xormor>Yst, yes.
03:26<Yst>Hmm. Weird. I never suspected that.
03:26<Yst>I wonder what other basic utilities are Python scripts.
03:26<xormor>Yst, http://magazinelib.com/all/linux-format-uk-issue-227-summer-2017/
03:27<xormor>Yst, the actual "cp" is probably not written in Python but the version in the Linux Format magazine is. :-)
03:27<xormor>Yst, you understood me wrong.
03:27<Yst>That page won't load; Cloudflare is blocking me.
03:27<xormor>Yst, it is just a feature in the magazine.
03:27<xormor>Yst, ok.
03:27<Yst>Okay, got it. That makes sense.
03:28<xormor>Yst, http://www.linuxformat.com/
03:29<jealousmonk>Yst: you would say that this bug relates to you problem? https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=550331
03:29<judd>Bug http://bugs.debian.org/550331 in wicd (open): «doesn't reconnect after suspend, hangs at "disconnecting active connections"»; severity: normal; opened: 2009-10-09; last modified: 2009-10-11.
03:31<Yst>xormor: Some of those headlines look interesting.
03:31<Yst>jealousmonk: Yeah, it very well could be related. It doesn't look like the same problem, but it looks like it could have the same underlying cause.

10:45<znoteer>is there some kind of rescue mode for ARM devices? I'm trying to reduce the size of the /home filesystem using fsadm. fsadm can't unmount the fs to resize it 'cuz it says the fs is busy. I've tried unmounting manually first, but get the same busy message. So is there single user/rescue mode with ARM?
10:45<grawity>I'm not sure why that would be ARM-specific
10:45<grawity>rescue.target / emergency.target / runlevels exist in all architecures
10:46<znoteer>Ah! so I can do a telinit something to get into rescue mode?
10:46<sney>mount -o remount,ro /home
10:46<sney>you should be able to resize it then
10:47<znoteer>sney: thanks, lemme try that...
10:47<sney>also make sure you don't have a shell prompt sitting in your home directory somewhere, as that will count as the fs being 'busy'
10:47<grawity>the single-user mode is under `systemctl rescue` or `telinit 1`

20:21<somiaj>znoteer: you might want to see if there are dkms packages for what you are trying to achieve. they just automate the whole process

20:23<somiaj>and you may want to just unstinall/disable asterisk, preform the upgrade, then invesigate how to get it to work in stretch.
20:24<somiaj>and I belive module-assistant is still avaialble for third party modules, and will create a .deb package, just make sure you have build-essential and the linux headers installed
20:26<znoteer>somiaj: I've encountered dkms when playing with virtualbox. I'm not sure what to look for to see if there are any packages to do what I need. I've searched on dkms in aptitude, but nothing mentioned asterisk. Have I done that check properly?
20:27<somiaj>if you can get the modules from debian, there should be dkms packages. If you cannot get them from debian, you'll have to see what this third party provides.

20:27<somiaj>as for third party stuff, not fully supported.
20:27<somiaj>but for upgrade purposes, best to uninstall it, and then reinstall it after the upgrade.
20:28<somiaj>I am not that familar with astrix, but I think getting it to work in stretch woudl be similar to jessie if it is just needing some third party modules.
20:31<znoteer>darn. This box was installed at wheezy I believe. I can't remember where I got the modules from. I don't have any non debian repos in sources.list. And I don't remember having downloaded anything from Digium. Is there some way I can check if they come from Debian? aptitude is just showing the package as locally created. How would I find out where the sources came from that the package build was based on?
20:32<somiaj>if you are running wheezy you'll want to fist upgrade to jessie
20:32<somiaj>then to stretch.
20:33<znoteer>no no. This isn't a wheezy box anymore. Long ago upgraded to jessie. I'm just saying I can't remember what I did when I installed it in the wheezy era

20:34<znoteer>so can I run some command to see what sources this module package is based on?
20:39<somiaj>depends on how it was installed. I would first check out the third party you got it from, and also try to search for them inside of deian.

20:43<znoteer>OK, I have this figured out. There is a package dahdi-source that is used to build the necessary kernel modules. So, it doesn't come from a third party. It's in the official repo. The package dahdi-source mentions using m-a a-i dahdi to build the modules. So I guess there probably isn't a dkms package for asterisk/dahdi. Does that make sense to you somiaj?

20:47<znoteer>OK, so I don't think I need to uninstall asterisk to do the upgrade then, since it's from official deb repos. (Correct me if I'm wrong). So, thanks for walking me through this problem, somiaj!
