03:36<KOJIbKA>Hi all! Does anybody have an experience in upgrading Debian Linux on your Alienware X51 R2? I had bad experience in 'dist-upgrade' Debian installed on my https://goo.gl/eGCjFm system. Can I just remove file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' to get rid of 'nvidia-xconfig' results that I shouldn't have run at first? Seems like 'Bumblebee' is the right answer for my case.

03:42<jm_>btw, the release notes recommend upgrades from tty, not X
03:42<jm_>well console, not tty
03:46<KOJIbKA> jm_: i've done exactly this but the thing is the whole upgrade process lasted till 03:00AM and I've skipped details on very last 'debconf' screen that have been warning me about shift from 'nouveau' to 'nvidia' and messed it up completely by performing 'nvidia-xconfig' upon first login to updated system
03:47<jm_>KOJIbKA: right, should be simple to redo now using dpkg-reconfigure?

11:34<babilen>How do you "upload" a repo?
11:34<petn-randall>upload to*
11:34<petn-randall>As in, you have a repo, you can dput a bunch of packages there, and let it get signed by the repo key.
11:35<babilen>Oh, that definitely works with aptly .. it's not a mirroring tool (in fact as it can't keep the original signatures it's somewhat useless at that), but works by creating "repos" to which you can add packages
11:35<petn-randall>I see, good to know.
11:35<babilen>You can then create snapshots (optionally) of those repos that are being published

11:35<babilen>You need a post_upload hook script for dput (ping me if you want mine), but it all works rather nicely

12:40<KOJIbKA>Hi all! I had to remove 'nvidia' drivers and go back to 'nouveau' after 'dist-upgrade' from Jessie to Stretch. My machine is https://goo.gl/eGCjFm that has 'Optimus' Graphics described here '$ lspci output' http://paste.debian.net/1003201 . After removal of all 'nvidia' -concerned packages I tried to bring back 'nouveau' to run. But due to initial idea of keeping '/home' partition intact all I could achieve is http://paste.debian.net/100
12:40<KOJIbKA>3414/ this terminal screen which doesn't lead to Desktop Manager to do it's business. So in terms of doing anything I have to change from hanging 'welcome' screen <Alt+Ctrl+F2> to 'tty2' The question is how to start X's? My default loader is gdm3'. My default DM is GNOME.

15:52<adhawkins>Can anyone run a quick check on a 3rd party repository for me? It's recently started giving me errorsm and I want to try to work out if it's them or me.
15:52<adhawkins>I have these two lines in a file in sources.list.d, and they both give me 401 Unauthorized errors.
15:53<adhawkins>deb http://www.ubnt.com/downloads/unifi/debian stable ubiquiti
15:53<adhawkins>deb http://www.ubnt.com/downloads/unifi/debian unifi5 ubiquiti
15:53<adhawkins>Appreciate it if someone can run an 'apt update' against these to see if it even finds a valid repo.
15:54<jhutchins>adhawkins: Wouldn't be a valid Debian repo.
15:54<adhawkins>How so?
15:54<jhutchins>adhawkins: Why would we want to risk our systems by loading non-debian data?
15:55<adhawkins>Ah I see what you mean. I had considered that.

15:56<adhawkins>dondelelcaro: No, it's the ubiquiti wireless controller software.

16:06<adhawkins>The first one also lists 401 in my log, but pasting the URL into a browser results in a valid redirect.
16:07<dondelelcaro>cloudflare is probably redirecting apt to a browser page to force it to run some javascript and verify itself

16:08<dondelelcaro>(but in this case, you can probably just download the one package that they provide, and install it directly)
16:08<adhawkins>Chrome's network window only shows the original request returning a 301 redirect to the second URL.
16:08<adhawkins>dondelelcaro: I don't particularly want to do that, as I want to get notified of updates when they occur so I can decide when to install them.
16:09<adhawkins>I guess I could use the redirected form of their URL and hope they don't change the redirect?
16:09<adhawkins>http://dl.ubnt.com/unifi/debian/dists/stable/Release

16:10<adhawkins>deb http://dl.ubnt.com/unifi/debian stable ubiquiti
16:10<adhawkins>?
16:10<dondelelcaro>adhawkins: the 401s aren't coming from the redirect. They're almost certainly coming from cloudflare

16:48<b17>they trashed the opengl2.0 support on me,
16:48<toad_>So it looks like rx580 does work with amdgpu ... but you need mesa 17
16:49<toad_>I.e. odds are it would work with buster
16:49<jhutchins_wk> /script load autorun/trackbar.pl
16:50<toad_>I wonder if I get at least 2D support on stretch?
16:52<toad_>Any thoughts on buster?
16:53<toad_>I guess for 2d support I probably only need a recent kernel and framebuffer X?
16:53<b17>dunno, i've seen the movie but i dont remember buster

16:54<toad_>As in caveats, thoughts on stability etc :) I've used testing before but it was a long time ago
16:54<toad_>Obviously it will get into broken-install states and need editing of the packages file etc occasionally
16:56<b17>making a game machine, yeah i'd try testing if stable wouldn;t do
