---Logopened Mon Jan 29 00:00:07 2018
---Daychanged Mon Jan 29 2018
00:00<other1>the program does not open
00:00<somiaj>I've seen multiple people have issues with tor for the last week or so, and that is what I heard got some working (but not all)
00:01<other1>this 'Thor Browser'
00:01<awal1>,v torbrowser-launcher
00:01<judd>Package: torbrowser-launcher on amd64 -- wheezy-backports/contrib: 0.1.9-1+deb8u3~bpo70+1; jessie/contrib: 0.1.9-1+deb8u3; jessie-backports/contrib: 0.2.6-2~bpo8+1; jessie-backports-sloppy/contrib: 0.2.8-5~bpo8+1; stretch-backports/contrib: 0.2.8-5~bpo9+1; buster/contrib: 0.2.8-6; sid/contrib: 0.2.8-6
00:02<awal1>other1, you mean ^
00:02<other1>thank u
00:03<awal1>so what?
00:04<annadane>so if you want to try the version from stretch-backports you'll want to have deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian stretch-backports main contrib non-free in your sources list, apt update, apt install torbrowser-launcher -t=stretch-backports

00:05-!-dboehmer___ is "Daniel B\xF6hmer,,," on #debian
00:06<awal1>non-free not needed, just contrib
00:07<annadane>if you have one you may as well have the other
00:07<awal1>not the same
00:07<annadane>components from both often rely on each other
00:07<annadane>in any case you may as well add it now in case you want to add it later

00:08<awal1>not necessarily, but I understand your meaning
00:08<awal1>it can just be confusing for a very noob

00:10<annadane>shouldn't, because the dependencies are all for the same release
00:12<annadane>though apt would handle that kind of thing anyway

01:56<jm_>have you logged the upgrade process as proposed by release notes?
01:56<teatime>I can't install mariadb because "No candidate version found for libjemalloc1"
01:56<jeanjack>jm_: no ><
01:57<jm_>teatime: try apt-cache policy libjemalloc1
01:57<jm_>jeanjack: bummer
01:57<teatime>jm_: there's a version, from stretch/main, but no cantidate
01:58<jm_>teatime: what priority does it list for it?
01:58<teatime>-30000 lol
01:58<jm_>maybe check your apt pinning?
01:58<teatime>have none
01:58<jm_>that sounds bizarre
01:58<teatime>OH
01:59<teatime>I *do* have some pins... generated apparently by apt-listbugs

02:00<jeanjack>mysql-client, mysql-common and mysql-server-core-5.5
02:01<jm_>what state are they in?

04:11<joshb>Hello, I'm having some issues with screen blanking in FVWM2 & Xfce4. Tried putting 'xset s off' and such in /etc/X11/Xsession, but no luck, cannot find screen savers or documentation on the issue. In Xfce4 the computer seems to become inoperable with a blanked screen, requiring a hard reboot, by the way.
04:12<joshb>I was wondering if anyone here is looking for some problem solving excitement (lol).
04:13<jeanjack>i'm looking for how to set up DHCPv6 with SLAAC plus a static address for the same interface, using /etc/nework/interfaces

04:59<joshb>i see, i guess it makes sense that it is a bug because I don't see why a screenlock would be as severe as requiring a hard reboot when nothing of the sort has been configured by the user to act that way

19:08<Brigo>anyway, i have to go, time to sleep, good luck with those problems :)
19:08<somiaj>Brigo: it does, surprised there, maybe I'm thinking kms support.
19:09<somiaj>Brigo: are you using the 340xx or 304xx legacy?
19:09<bbb>304xx
19:09<Brigo>somiaj, well, in a second thouhgt i am using 340xx not 304xx, so maybe you are right, but i think that's not the problem here.
19:09<somiaj>with the older cards, have you tried nouveau support bbb? I thought nvidia help make it so nouveau support was decent on some older cards.
19:10<somiaj>the 304xx drivers are quite old and may not include a lot of the newer kms/RandR features needed, and maybe the nouveau driver will give you what you want.
19:11<bbb>fps in game?
19:11<bbb>i need opengl
19:11<somiaj>nouveau supports opengl
19:11<bbb>like bike in F1
19:11<somiaj>it just uses the mesa gl libary and not the outdated version provided by the legacy driver.
19:12<somiaj>Also check your Xorg.0.log, see exactly what is being detected, it may lead some lights as to why the 1280x1024 resolution is not being detected.
19:12<somiaj>You could also write an xorg.conf file to force a ModeLine for 1280x1024 resolution that may work.

19:32<TomTheDragon>there are thousands of packages in debian, changing the source packages would be... a lot of maintainance.
19:32<somiaj>In this case you are just changing the build flags? I guess in that case, you don't need to do any version change (though I might just to be safe)
19:33<somiaj>Debian really isn't setup to be like gentoo that you can build your own packages on the fly, unless you built up your own build system, in which case, I would still just use a custom repo to delive the packages, vs have the install rebuild them based on some overlay.
19:33<TomTheDragon>somiaj: just changing gcc and friends
19:33<somiaj>You could automate the version change (just append a -tom1) or something to the end. I thought I ran across a tool tha twould automate some of this, but am not sure what it was.
