00:21<rob_debian>Hi all, please, I plugged one pendrive here that contains several mp3 files and they open ok. But, there are also several .mp4 and .mp3 files that are storaged in the pendrive partition without being part of any folder, and all of them don't open, because there is a strange Ink extension, after .mp3 and .mp4. Please, what's exactly happening, and how to fix this issue ?

00:25<silver>rm *.ink
00:26<silver>rm *.lnk
00:26<silver>its a shortcut file or 'link'
00:27<rob_debian>Hi silver, nice to meet you ! Well, but it appears now, for before they were .mp3 and .mp4 files and used to open normally
00:27<rob_debian>in this case, do I run this command as root user ?
00:27<silver>Nice to meet you too rob.
00:27<Nemoder>the link pointed to actual files. check the size on those lnk files and you'll see they cant possibly contain a full track of audio
00:27<silver>depends on how the pendrive is mounted
00:28<silver>but the .lnk files are 'linked' to another file porbably the mp4 or mp3 in question
00:28<silver>so you dont actually have the mp3 linked to the .lnk file any more
00:29<silver>the .lnk files are useless
00:29<rob_debian>silver, it means I've lost these files ?
00:29<silver>it sounds like it
00:30<rob_debian>oh god ! why did it happen ? what kind of issue might have caused this trouble ?
00:30<rob_debian>really don't know
00:30<rob_debian>Hi Nemoder
00:30<rob_debian>ok, Nemoder, I will check it out
00:31<Nemoder>sounds like instead of copy and paste you did a copy and 'paste shortcut'
00:32<rob_debian>Yes, Nemoder, when I had a 4.5 GB file before (.mp4) it only remains a 812 bytes....
00:32<rob_debian>yes, but I really can't undertand that, for they were behaving nice some hours ago....
00:32<Nemoder>because they linked to files that did exist
00:34<rob_debian>Nemoder and silver, please: basically, these files don't exist anymore in this pendrive ?

00:35<silver>thats proabbly quicker Nemoder
00:35<silver>nice to meet you also

08:42<sentriz>teatime: right I see, I think it's intended, the raid works nice. just a shame that it's so ugly
08:42<sentriz>but it's not a big issue
08:42<teatime>one silver lining: the nice thing about RAID1 is it's transparent, so if you do need to change metadata formats or even just re-create the array from scratch, you can actually do that :)
08:43<Walex>sentriz: intel RAID in BIOS is fake...
08:43<sentriz>that's right
08:43<Walex>sentriz: in the sense that it just sets up some tables that then the OS has to implement the RAID
08:43<teatime>my personal rule of thumb is that Linux software md raid is better than any raid controller that costs less than $400.
08:43<teatime>but I am not familiar w/ the current offerings, tbh
08:43<sentriz>interesting
08:44<sentriz>it's not a new machine. it's dell t3500
08:44<Walex>sentriz: so if you wanted RAID1 between 'sdb' and 'sdc' it would have been cleaner to set it up as a native MD RAID set, using the installer, than in the BIOS and then letting the installer simulate intel RAID.
08:44<teatime>sentriz: one major benefit, for example, is that you can take the disks from a linux md s/w raid, and pop them into any other linux system to access the data. instead of trying to track down a specific $400 raid controller.
08:44<Walex>teatime: very wise words
08:44<sentriz>teatime: yeah yeah I read that somewhere
08:45<sentriz>well maybe I'll do a native md raid sometime
08:45<Walex>sentriz: the only reason why intel RAID compatibility is available for MD RAID is to support dual-booting with MS-Windows.
08:45<teatime>I imagine I would, if it were mine.

11:34*pdo_fn14 While I think it's maybe caused by apparmor IMO.
11:34<somiaj>there is a boot command you can use to disable apparmor. It is enabled in the kernel, but if you don't have apparmor isntalled on your system it shoudln't matter
11:35<somiaj>the backport kernels do have less testing than the debian main ones, but they are usually good quality and work.
11:35<pdo_fn14>Now I quite worrying it'll affected in buster on my laptop.

11:37<pdo_fn14>somiaj: Yeah, but is't possible to disable apparmor completely in buster?
11:38<pdo_fn14>I quite doubt if buster will offer switch for apparmor .
11:39<somiaj>There are multiple ways, one is set up a boot flag to disable it in the kernel, the other is to uninstall apparmor. (there maybe other ways too)
11:39<somiaj>note if running testing you should probably be in #debian-next for those issues, and it might be nice to keep it enabled, the whole goal is to provide a default profile that is not intrusive at all and won't need to be disabled. This goal can be acived if buster users report bugs.

22:23<duncan>there is a file in the root of its directory tree called "start-tor-browser.desktop", which you might execute.
22:23<jcrain>maybe a vpn could do it. i seem to remember someone complaining that they couldn't access wiki.debian.net and it was because of a ip blacklist.
22:23<duncan>jcrain: It works fine.
22:24<duncan>wiki.debian.org is fully accessible for me over Tor.
