02:32<Eljotto>Good morning
02:32<Eljotto>debian on <500mb disk - possible?
02:34<Nemoder>https://www.debian.org/releases/wheezy/amd64/ch03s04.html.en
02:35<Anarka>500mb seems really limited
02:35<annadane>consider not linking the one for wheezy
02:35<Eljotto>it is
02:36<Anarka>it doesnt get any better
02:36<Nemoder>I think wheezy was the last one you could squeeze under 500
02:36<annadane>oh, okay

02:36<Eljotto>got a system with ~500mb flash and 512mb ram. I can upgrade ram to 1gb relatively cheap, since this is normal laptop ram, but the disk is 44pin flash, and those doesn't come cheap
02:37<ach>!knoppix
02:37<dpkg>Knoppix is _not_ Debian. Seek Knoppix help in freenode's #knoppix. Knoppix is a live CD distribution which is <based on Debian>, useful as a rescue CD, to test hardware, and for situations where you have access to a computer but it isn't Debian. http://www.knoppix.org/ unofficial: http://Debian-knoppix.alioth.Debian.org/ <Debian-live> is the Debian equivalent for publishing live systems.
02:37-!-francesco is now known as Guest3769
02:37<ach>i think it's like build out of debian
02:37<ach>if you can get it anymore on CD
02:38<Anarka>what do you wanna run on those 500mb ?

02:41<Anarka>home-assistant.io this ?
02:41<Eljotto>wanted to install everything on pendrive, but it seems like it was painfully slow
02:41<Eljotto>yeah, that one
02:47<Nemoder>I imagine the space for the python requirements for setting that up are going to be a lot higher than 500mb

02:48<Eljotto>true

08:23<wonder>i solved this issue by uninstalling network-manager and resolvconf iirc
08:24<wonder>but my network is pretty basic
08:25<wonder>i configure it in /etc/network/interfaces
08:27<somiaj>hmm, surprised network-manager was conflicting with an interface you had already configured in the interfaces file (it is usually supose to ignore those)
08:28<wonder>i hadn't - the tun0 only came up with its own dns when openvpn was started, but NM decided to overwrite it.
08:29<wonder>or resolvconf, one of them - so i just get rid of both

11:58<iStrive>I have a macbook 2007 with Debian Stretch, X11VNC installed and configured over SSH. My problem is that after the first connection to the desktop, my screen wont come back up when opening the Lid, if I never connect than the laptop works flawlessly... Still even though I have a black screen on the
11:58<iStrive>lapto with the lid open, I can connect to the syste
11:58<iStrive>m with SSH and VNC over SSH successfully... So what is interfering with the local screen after the VNC session?
11:59<x7041>maybe a hardware defekt iStrive?
11:59<iStrive>defective hardware would faild both ways, not only after a VNC session! right?

12:01<somiaj>!parrotos
12:01<dpkg>Parrot OS (https://www.parrotsec.org/) is a security and penetration testing distribution. It is based on Debian testing, but it is not Debian and is not supported in #debian. Seek help in #parrot on irc.frozenbox.org or try the mailing lists at http://lists.parrotsec.org/listinfo. Also ask me about <based on debian>.
12:01<iStrive>Any VNC expert?
12:03<somiaj>iStrive: acpi in linux can be buggy due to buggy acpi hardware. Might be something about the vnc connection that causes the laptop to freak out when you resume (since the connection would go stale and die while the machine is suspended).
12:04<somiaj>so my guess it has little to due with VNC and has more to due with the suspend on your laptop. Sometimes there are firmware/bios options to help linux work better with the vendors implimentation of acpi

18:11<somiaj>Mr_Me: do you have internet access, just modify your sources.list, comment out the cdrom and use internet sources.
18:12<Mr_Me>nope... that was one of the issues i'm facing
18:12<somiaj>I think you can manually mount the cdrom, you still have the usb drive you installed from?
18:12<somiaj>(though I forget the details of where to mount it so apt sees it)
18:12<Mr_Me>at least... i don't have an ethernet...
18:13<Mr_Me>somiaj: listen to this strange thing...
18:13<cjac>Mr_Me: you might have to do something like file://media/cdrom/...
18:13<cjac>instead of the cdrom trick
18:13<cjac>in your /etc/apt/sources.list
18:13<ais-admin>actually I have the meltdown patched kernel already on this system. oh well...
18:13<Mr_Me>to get to te rescue i have to mount the "cdrom"

20:09<Mr_Me>happend :P
20:09<cjac>okay, now what do you get when you run 'ip -o link show' ?
20:09<Mr_Me>lo
20:10<cjac>darnit
20:10<Mr_Me>and one more that i cannot spell :P
20:10<cjac>ah!
20:10<cjac>it's a hex number, right?
20:10<Mr_Me>yeah
20:10<Mr_Me>wlx00 bla bla
20:10<cjac>yay! that's your wifi adapter!
20:10<cjac>so take the entry that I put up for you to review at the end of your /etc/network/interface file
20:11<Mr_Me>yes, although maybe the firmware wasn't needed cause with the command networkctrl (or somehting like that) i was able to see it
20:11<cjac>replace 'wlo1' with 'wlx00 bla blah' or whatever the correct device name is
20:11<Mr_Me>i've already added mine that worked with my raspberry
20:11<cjac>and replace 172.16.79.164/24 with an address on your wireless network with correct netmask
20:12<cjac>or if you want, you can use dhcp
20:12<cjac>I am now, technically speaking, supposed to be playing undertale with my daughter.
