04:10<Nirgal>Usually, unattended-upgrades silently keeps the user changes, doesn't it? Maybe I reconfigure debconf or something .... :/
04:11<somiaj>Nirgal: sometimes during upgrades, debconf will notice that a config file has changed, and if the upgrade contains a new version of the config file, it will promt the user if they want the package one or to keep custom changes.
04:12<somiaj>this is rare, and shoudln't be happening in stable, though I guess maybe there could be security issues that promt changing the default config debian ships with (As this should only happen if the config file from the package changes)

06:15<MarkedOne>somiaj: Yes.. that could be problem...
06:16<MarkedOne>Soo I will create partition on USB and format it to ext4.. And it should solve problem.. Or should I rather use btrfs?
06:16<teatime>use ext4 in the absence of specific compelling reasons to not do so
06:16<grawity>NTFS is okay if you mount it with ntfs-3g and -o permissions
06:16<somiaj>MarkedOne: I would use ext4 unless you have a specific reasion for btrfs. Windows may only see the first partition, so make the ext4 the second partition if wanting to share with windows.
06:16<grawity>though do you really need to transfer everything in the working tree?
06:16<teatime>you could make a tarball or something if you just need to transport this one time via sneaker-net
06:16<teatime>but if you plan to keep a git repo on it I'd use ext4 for sure
06:16<grawity>you could transfer just the .git repository itself, and re-`git checkout -f` afterwards
06:17<grawity>or tarball it, or make a `git bundle`
06:19<MarkedOne>somiaj: Can windows read and write correctly to ext4? I don't even need NTFS then.
06:20<somiaj>MarkedOne: there are drivers you can install. ext2 (no journal) maybe a bit safer in that case.
06:21<teatime>MarkedOne: ease of windows interoperability would be one of the compelling reasons to maybe not use ext*

06:22<grawity>MarkedOne: maybe it used to not show the errors
06:23<b17>I like fat32 better for transferring but I rarely boot a win machine anymore
06:23<teatime>MarkedOne: have you considered that you could just have the git repo duplicated on both machines
06:23<teatime>and sync them up with git
06:26<MarkedOne>teatime: Yes... but it has a little problem https://bitbucket.org/site/master/issues/5154/someone-has-already-registered-that-ssh and I thought it would be easier to keep project on USB stick when I am at work.

06:33<grawity>but ntfs-3g on Linux still works better
06:33<jm_>i use ext2fsd but in read-only mode
06:34<somiaj>MarkedOne: it might just be how your permisions are setup, provided files were mostly 644 and directories 755, you could do this with ntfs and the fmask and dmask options. Also as mentioned, are you wanting to devlop in this git arcive on the usb drive in both windows and linux?
06:34<somiaj>my understanding was provided it was ext2 it should work fine, but ext4 (the journal and other extneded) bits weren't as reliable.

06:37<grawity>should be fine with recent ext2fsd, it supports most common ext4 features
06:38<MarkedOne>somiaj: No at home I have linux with working git remote (git push works because I have keys)... At work I have only linux machine without git pushing capabilities... So ext4 partition will solve it as I will develop on it only at work and push later at home. Also I will keep NTFS partition for file sharing with dumb windows if needed.

I do not know yet, if in the future, I will need softwares that are only available on Windows... I know it is advisable to install windows before linux in the case of a dual boot, but in ma situation,

13:26<b17>hmm, not sure I don;t use multi arch, maybe you should go back and make sure you installed steam correctly.
13:27<JackK>i386 packages don't usually interfere with 64bit installs. are you sure steam is crashing because of a graphics driver?
13:28<piper>well steam installs like this libgl1-mesa-glx:i386 libgpg-error0:i386 libudev1:i386 libxinerama1:i386 libxss1:i386 steam:i386

13:32<sigimac>like when it was trying to change modes
13:33<somiaj>I sometimes go run the game by hand instead of using the steam launcher to see if I can get any better video output.

13:34<JackK>Run it, let it crash. See if it puts any clues in 'journalctl -r' and /var/log/syslog
13:35<JackK>Much easier to troubleshoot when you can see the error message
13:35<b17>I had a lot of issues at first on stretch with opengl for some reason, after reinstalling the mesa pkgs it cleared up.

13:36<somiaj>Reinstalling the mesa packages most likely won't do much good, you should try to figure out what is actually crashing on the games.

13:37<piper>i would try apt remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-amdgpu xserver-xorg-video-ati xserver-xorg-video-radeon reboot and try playing the game, you can always reinstall those packages if you still have crashes
13:37<somiaj>nodiscc: though in this case, it might be worth just sending it upstream to xfce, unless it is a debian specific only issue.
13:37<sigimac>somiaj: I'm not sure how you start a specific game in steam by command prompt
13:37<nodiscc>somiaj: ok
13:37<somiaj>sigimac: you go to the directory you store your games, then you can find the binaries and run it. Lots of games are mono, or java, and sometimes that i s the issue.
13:37<nodiscc>somiaj: only a couple of "sendto" items for better desktop integration. like this one https://salsa.debian.org/xfce-team/desktop/thunar/blob/master/debian/gnome-obex-send.desktop (debian patch)
13:38<nodiscc>basically play/enqueue items for mpv/vlc
13:38<somiaj>nodiscc: I didn't look at the details to much, but yea that looks like a debisn specific file, and attach the patch to some related bugreport.

16:28<Brigo>rob_debian, is not a browser problem, neither chromium nor firefox support mp4, you need an external application, a helper, who support the format. A plugging maybe.

16:30<rob_debian>yes, supports BCMM, I open several videos in .mp4 format using firefox esr 52.6.0

16:31<somiaj>I think mp4 can be multiple types of video codecs, could be somethign about this .mp4 file, or maybe it really isn't one if others play fine.
16:31<Brigo>you can check this out in configuration.
16:32<BCMM>try mediainfo to see exactly what sort of mp4 it is
16:32<rob_debian>Brigo, you mean: in firefox configuration ?
16:32<rob_debian>BCMM, mediainfo ?
16:33<Brigo>rob_debian, or in chromium if you prefer it.
16:33<BCMM>rob_debian: from the package mediainfo :)
16:33<BCMM>rob_debian: h.264 is a specific subset of MP4, it's possible people use the .mp4 file extension for things that are not actually h.264
16:33<rob_debian>I thought to install flayplugin non-free, what do you think, Brigo and BCMM ?
16:34<BCMM>that basically will not help
16:34<rob_debian>I see Brigo.. I see BCMM.
16:34<Brigo>rob_debian, afaik, flash don't support mp4.
16:34<BCMM>anyway, iirc mozilla has made an intentional decision not to support nonstandard video codecs to discourage proliferation of formats, so if it's MPEG-4 but not h.264, it *shouldn't* work

(to get stretch). does the sudden change of source url cause problems or leave inconsistent data lying around?

18:07<futune>mnuhmnuh, avconv is a fork of ffmpeg which, at least used to, be preferred by debian
