04:30<adhawkins>Hi all. Just updated one of my XCP hosted VMs to the latest stable. As expected, it failed to boot, so I added 'pti=off' to the kernel command line, which resolved this.
04:30<adhawkins>[17/07/2018 22:28:23] <adhawkins> However, it now fails to mount my nfs mounts (listed in fstab) at boot. If I run 'mount -a' as root after boot, they are successfully mounted.
04:31<adhawkins>Any suggestions? I don't think it's an issue with the NFS server, as I've only performed the updates on the client.
04:31<adhawkins>If I roll back the client to before the updates, then it all works fine again.
04:32<jm_>how do you roll back the client then?

04:35<adhawkins>The client booted Ok, but during boot all the NFS mounts fail.
04:35<jm_>adhawkins: so what kind of upgrade are we talking about? security or dist upgrade?
04:35<adhawkins>Just apt upgrade, to the recent 'stable' release.
04:36<adhawkins>It was up to date before that.
04:36<jm_>in that case maybe try to be more selective about which packages get upgraded and se which one breaks it

06:58<adhawkins>arto: No other issues with IPv6 here.
06:58<arto>no use to ipv6, since all my computers are behind NAT
06:58<adhawkins>jm_: Yes, the ifconfig *after* the mount command shows an IPv4 address.
06:58<adhawkins>So either the kernel mount is waiting for IPv4 to come up on the interface, or it's just a race condition and IPv4 is coming up slightly quicker on the old kernel than the new one.
06:59<adhawkins>Going back to the new kernel to see what I see.

14:58<rkmugen_>if memory serves, it had something to do with the keyboard and mouse lagging if I held down any of the keys or buttons. This wasn't an issue on Debian. Maybe it had something to do with the kernel that Ubuntu was using, but I didn't really care to figure out why -- i just knew that the kernel that Debian was using didn't have that problem. :)

17:48<sarnold>ryouma: when in doubt, apt-get purge the thing and see what packages would be uninstalled. continue if you want, or don't if you want.. the deborphan tool can help remove 'useless' packages
17:48<somiaj>or run aptitude why packagename
17:49<somiaj>most libs are auto installed, so they should nicely be removed via autoremove, so unless you are installing a lot of -dev libs to build stuff, if a lib is on your system, it is most likely needed by something. deborphan can help with that if really needed

19:43<sarnold>can any other clients mount nfs exports from that host?
19:44<iStrive>all other computers are succesfsully connecting to the share, win / mac systems
19:44<GyrosGeier>sounds like a portmap problem
19:44<iStrive>only this Jessie has issues
19:45<GyrosGeier>RPC means connecting to the portmap service, which has a well-known port number (111) and asking which port the NFS service lives on
19:45<iStrive>here is the complete output from mount -av

20:37<adminewb>sarnold, so nothing you access from desktop file mgr? ssh is sort of scary configuritis wise to the noninitiate
20:38<sarnold>adminewb: sshfs is a FUSE-based filesystem so it should be visible to all processes on the system in the same filesystem namespace..
20:38<adminewb>presumably the ssh link must be set up first
20:39<sarnold>yes
20:39<adminewb>NFS takes more setup?
20:39<sarnold>NFS requires synchronized userids across machines in the cluster
20:39<sarnold>if you've already got that then it's pretty easy to use
20:40<sarnold>otherwise it can be annoying
20:40<adminewb>only one user account is of interest, same uid on both nodes, so probably ok
20:40<sarnold>identical user id *number*?
20:40<adminewb>login and # yes
20:40<sarnold>nice
20:41<sarnold>then nfs ought to be pretty easy :)
