06:00<duclicsic>arturo: from RFC3442: "If the DHCP server returns both a Classless Static Routes option and a Router option, the DHCP client MUST ignore the Router option."
06:00<duclicsic>the solution it would seem, is to send out the default route as a classless static route
06:01<arturo>duclicsic: the funny thing is that I have a similar setup that works (offering a classless static route + default route)
06:02<duclicsic>then that dhcp client is not obeying the rfc

16:20<finn>I found a very large wiki page with a lot of software that is supposed to help me do this, but i'm not clear if I really need any of that (can't i just run dpkg-scanpackages and a few other things in a shell script? Maybe not?)

16:23<finn>well, it's a lot easier to check for updates, download those updates, verify that they are signed by the correct key, and install them when they're in a repo
16:23<finn>if I'm just publishing .deb files and hoping my users check my site to see if there are new ones, I expect most users to never get updates because they wont check back
16:24<jhutchins_wk>finn: Build a version check into the software.
16:25<jhutchins_wk>finn: Do an "announce" mailing list.
16:25<finn>what is the value of that over a normal debian repo?

16:31<dpkg>To feed your own packages into apt, you need to create a repository with a Packages file that lists the packages. 18:28<DeafGoose>Im following instructions to add anbox source for Debian using echo "deb [arch=amd64] https://ftp.ustclug.org/~zsj/anbox stretch main" |sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/anbox.list but they have moved to https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/anbox and I have no clue how to change the first line to add this to anbox.list, any help is appreciated

18:32<somiaj>edit the file you made, /etc/apt/sources.list.d/anabox.list and replace the old url with the new url
18:33<DeafGoose>@somiaj, https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/anbox seems to be just the package “main” url, I dont know how to format it
18:33<DeafGoose>if you know what I mean
18:33<somiaj>sure so just replace the main old url https://ftp.ustclug.org/~zsj/anbox, yo ustill want the 'stretch main' part

18:34<somiaj>sorry I didn't look closely. Anyways, that is the offical debian package, it is only in buster (testing) and due to stretch being frozen it won't ever be made for stretch
18:35<DeafGoose>is it possbile to still get it from buster?
18:35<somiaj>in this case you'll have to continue to use the old stretch repo or backport it yourself. Debian won't provide that for stretch
18:35<somiaj>!ssb
18:35<dpkg>First, check for a backport on <debian-backports>. If unavailable: 1) Add a deb-src line for sid (not a deb line!); ask me about <deb-src sid> 2) enable debian-backports (see <bdo>) 3) aptitude update; aptitude install build-essential; aptitude build-dep packagename; apt-get -b source packagename; 4) install the resultant debs. To change compilation options, see <package recompile>; for versions newer than sid see <uupdate>.
18:35<somiaj>if you backport it yourself, you most likely don't want to install the buster package in stretch, that is a way to break debian
18:35<somiaj>!don't break debin
18:35<somiaj>!don't break debian
18:35<somiaj>!don't break debian
18:35<dpkg>methinks dont break debian is https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian
18:36<DeafGoose>https://ftp.ustclug.org/~zsj/anbox <- “Anbox is now in Debian Sid."
18:36<somiaj>that is a good read, gives you some advise on how to install stuff not in debian stretch in debian stretch. In this case, if the old place you were getting the package no longer exists, you'll have to backport it yourself. If the old place of getting the package is still there, they seem to provide a stretch package, for it
18:37<DeafGoose>laright
18:37<somiaj>sure, but that won't help debian stretch. In this case backport is th eonly option I would suggest. (maybe in the future they will backport it to stretch-backports, but at this time, debian only provides tha tpackage for buster/sid)
18:38<DeafGoose>is there anyway for me to download if from buster/sid and install manually?
18:39<somiaj>not safely
18:39<somiaj>that is why I suggested backport, you download the source, compile the source into a package, and then install the package you built
18:39<somiaj>!ssb
18:39<dpkg>First, check for a backport on <debian-backports>. 18:41<somiaj>In general I'm giving the advise you want for most things, it could be in this case it is okay, but it is a pain to check every depends is satasifable in stretch. The problem is often times buster packages require buster libs, and you odn't want buster libs in stretch.
