00:33<nyov>bill-auger: which driver is that?
00:36<bill-auger>i915
00:37<bill-auger>ive been discussing it in #intel-gfx - i have some clue what the issue is if you are interested
00:37<nyov>oh, please tell :)
00:37<bill-auger>i am upgrading to unstable now and wil try that kernel
00:38<nyov>I happen to have a notbook around using that driver
00:38<nyov>notbook. lol -- notebook
00:39<bill-auger>you probably wont hit this bug - it very quirky
00:39<bill-auger>its not a book, silly - its a computer
00:40<nyov>okay so I can hope it will continue to work with next debian? phew
00:40<traumschule>anyone here familiar with reportbug? it encoded the body somehow and i hesitate to send it to the tracker like this https://paste.debian.net/1043049/
00:40<nyov>that's base64. does it really do that?
00:41<traumschule>it tried to send it, failed and i choose n to save to a file. it worked before, but this one i don't know
00:41<nyov>looks legit, though
00:41-!-jm_ [flier@000125af.user.oftc.net] has joined #debian

00:42<bill-auger>about 5 years ago i found a bug in the i915 driver that was preventing it from loading on this PC
00:42<bill-auger>i worked with someone in the #intel-gfx IRC channel for a few days and it resulted in a patch that allowed the modeule to load
00:42<nyov>wow, what misfortune
00:43<bill-auger>it had to do with a the ACPI on this box being slightly broken - the module was failing to load only for that reason - the patch allowed the module to load
00:43<nyov>let me guess... now they dropped it
00:43<bill-auger>maybe this is a regression but as i said it is working fine on parabola arch and also trisquel ubuntu 1604
00:43<nyov>ok
00:44<bill-auger>the one thing those distros have in common is the linux-libre kernel so i tried that on debian and it worked
00:50<traumschule>nyoron: decoded and sent, should appear on https://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/requested soon
00:51<traumschule>(sorry, meant nyov)
00:51-!-annadane [~annadane@mtrlpq5302w-lp140-01-69-156-34-87.dsl.bell.ca] has quit [Quit: Leaving]
00:52<nyov>traumschule: it didn't send encoded?
00:53<nyov>did you correct encoding though, to 8bit or qp?
00:53<nyov>(probably)

00:55<traumschule>nyov: i could have sent it probably, but wasn't sure. sending the separated body part through base64 -d and joining it with the header again worked too
00:56<nyov>yeah but now it has no valid encoding
00:56<nyov>maybe you get lucky ;)
00:56<nyov>but if the Content-Transfer-Encoding header still said base64...
00:57<traumschule>oh, forgot about that. yea guess then i need to be lucky.
00:57<traumschule>here you are: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=909069

05:15<simula>Is attempting a backport of libinput10 a Bad Idea (TM)?
05:15<simula>I tried a while back but my Debian Fu was not up to scratch
05:15<simula>I'm just wondering if I should persist with it or if it'll do more harm than good
05:18<annadane>i think if you're considering it and if you previously felt like doing it, then there's a need for it, and if you're willing to maintain the backport then you should do it
05:18<annadane>i'm not sure in what sense it would be a bad idea
05:18<simula>annadane: breaking things that depend on it
05:19<simula>I don't want to break other Stable packages
05:21<annadane>you can also perhaps try inquiring about that on #debian-mentor

14:57<BlaBla>Hi, I'm trying to sort through the Debian secure apt. I have what seems like a bit of a chicken and egg issue. I installed stretch using the dvds. To access online repos I needed the current release.key that I was able to import from https://ftp-master.debian.org/keys.html. I am know being asked for a inrelease file which seems like a master list of checksums for each package in a repository.
