13:08<petn-randall>Talkless: You can set up a nullmailer for it to foward it to an address of your choosing.
13:08<petn-randall>!nullmailer
13:08<dpkg>nullmailer is probably a minimal <MTA> for hosts which just sends directly to smart relays. Does not support /etc/aliases; define a catch-all alias in /etc/nullmailer/adminaddr instead, see adminaddr(5). http://untroubled.org/nullmailer/ See also <ssmtp>.
13:10<ais-admin>I highly recommend ssmtp - very very easy to set up. I use it on several systems that only need to send

15:30<Rubin>Hi
15:31<Rubin>I'm looking for help finding information about a package that was in jessie that is not in stretch. packages.debian.org lists it in sid and experimental as wwell. How do I see why it is not in stretch? The package is check-mk-livestatus

15:33<EmleyMoor>If I need to save the timestamp of a file for later use in a shell script (that will change the actual timestamp), how do I best do it?
15:36<Rubin>EmleyMoor, stat with the -c flag. maybe -c "%Y" if you want epoc time
15:36<itd>Rubin: You can search for reported bugs, e.g., #868899
15:36<judd>Bug http://bugs.debian.org/868899 in check-mk-agent (open): «check-mk-agent missing from stretch»; severity: normal; opened: 2017-07-19; last modified: 2017-07-19.
15:37<itd>tracker.debian.org provides nice summaries for packages.
15:37<EmleyMoor>Rubin: That would be the form I can use in find and touch, I guess...
15:37<Rubin>itd, so i'd need to lobby for stretch backports to support it again?
15:38<Rubin>EmleyMoor, stat is a command. so stat -c "%Y" /path/to/file
15:38<Rubin>oh. nvm i misunderstood your reply
15:38<Rubin>yes
15:38<itd>judd: checkbackport check-mk-livestatus
15:38<judd>Backporting package check-mk-livestatus in sid→stretch/amd64: all build-dependencies satisfied using stretch.
15:39<itd>Rubin: You can backport it yourself. :)
15:39<EmleyMoor>Actually, not so sure I could use that with find...
15:40<Rubin>itd, they also offer .deb's on their website.. so i can work around it. just wanted to make sure the reason wasnt a good one :)
15:41<EmleyMoor>-newermt might work, though
15:41<Rubin>EmleyMoor, find can execute other commands, though its tricky to get right if the files contain weird things.
15:41<Rubin>(name wise)
15:41<itd>Rubin: They? Won't recommend using third-party stuff.
15:42<EmleyMoor>I just want to save the output from the stat to a variable and then access that within the script
15:42<Rubin>MYVAR=$(stat -c "%Y" /your/file)
15:44<Rubin>itd, yeah i dont like to either.
15:44<Rubin>i have not yet gotten round to setting up my own repo tho
15:44<itd>dpkg: ssb
15:44<dpkg>First, check for a backport on <debian-backports>. If unavailable: 1) Add a deb-src line for sid (not a deb line!); ask me about <deb-src sid> 2) enable debian-backports (see <bdo>) 3) aptitude update; aptitude install build-essential; aptitude build-dep packagename; apt-get -b source packagename; 4) install the resultant debs. To change compilation options, see <package recompile>; for versions newer than sid see <uupdate>.
15:46<Rubin>itd, is it hard to build a personal repository to put the resulting .deb files? i have not done it in decades
15:47<Rubin>(i need to deploy this, not just do it once)
15:50<Rubin>also, i have a webserver setup already with mirrors of other repos, so i'd just need to build the filesystem structure

19:06<twb>They're definitely unrelated problems
19:07<somiaj>don't you roll your own kernels?
19:07<twb>First problem was a N40L microserver, with WD Reds, md RAID1, ext4. kernel logged a bunch of DRDY ERR events to *both* disks at the same time. ext4 reports massive unfixable corruption. smart says both drives are totally fine. mdadm reports array is totally fine.
19:08<twb>Same hardware deployed at two other sites, had no problems
19:08-!-fmneto [~fmneto@2001:12d0:8020:2000::68] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
19:09<twb>The *second* problem is a remote host, remote monkey is plugging in USB HDDs. For the last 2 months, like 5 different USB HDDs haven't appeared in the kernel/udev event logs *at all*, not even as an unknown USB device.
19:10<twb>Yesterday a fifth, new 4TB disk, appeared as USB-attached-SCSI (not USB mass-storage), and I could write to it, but the writes are very slow (5 hours to mkfs.ext3), and dmesg reports the kernel is having UAS-level I/O problems and constantly resetting the bus (i.e. rebooting the USB HDD)
19:10<twb>Both systems are Debian 9; the first is running 4.18bpo (was 4.14bpo when the AHCI bus errors occurred); second system is running 4.9.
19:10<somiaj>Ghosts....I don't have that much experience to have any real advise. Could just be random luck and you have hardware that is kinda funky.
19:11<twb>Oh also they have ECC RAM and ECC RAM slots and the former server has had a full memtest86+ without errors.
19:12<twb>Right now my prime suspect in case #1 is the southbridge chip is damaged; in case #2 there is physical damage to the USB3 socket itself
19:13<somiaj>Ever think it could be the cable. I've seen cables cause wired issues, and replacing them fix them.
19:14<twb>I told the monkey to try different cables but it's impossible to get clear feedback from them
19:15<twb>So anyway. "smartctl -a /dev/sdd" to that UAS drive doesn't work: Unknown USB bridge [0x0bc2:0xab30 (0x108)] Please specify device type with the -d option.
19:15<twb>Anybody know what value to pass to -d ?
