00:44<voltagex>Arcade: it's easier to get help if you ask your question directly - what errors are you getting?
00:45<Arcade>voltagex, I am not getting any error. I sent a confirm message a few times no reply back
00:51<bremner>Arcade: if you have the message id and exact time and date of sending, you can maybe get help in #debian-lists
01:00<Arcade>I will see if I can reach listmaster@lists.debian.org first

01:02<bremner>I'm not sure why you think that will be faster, but OK...
01:02<bremner>you'll still need the same information, BTW
01:08<Arcade>yeah I included the date and time. I thought this would be easier having seen what the server also replied back. I also have a few IP's I roll from that could be causing this reject so this helps there too
01:12<Arcade>not to say yours was faster but I just assume not share some private data on IRC directly

04:32<EmleyMoor>I want to stop logcheck emailing me certain messages from one of my systems, but am not sure how to make an expression that matches. It is obvious from an existing rule that it needs to begin with "^\w{3} [ :0-9]{11} [._[:alnum:]-]+ asterisk\[[[:digit:]]{2,5}\]: ", but what I want to exclude is any message where the next character is a < - can anyone advise me on an ignore rule to do thatL

05:31<Onmp314>Hi. Can install on Debian 9 KDE 3.5?
05:32<Onmp314>Must ask on #kde.
05:33<EmleyMoor>KDE 4 is the standard on stretch. Why doe you need 3.5?
05:34<Onmp314>@EmleyMoor No. I ask out of curiosity. This is my favorite version.
05:36<Onmp314>Can I compile KDE 3.5 without major modifications?
05:36<rudi_s>Onmp314: Possibly, but KDE is quite big so there a lot of sources to build.
05:36<rudi_s>I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to invest a lot of time.
05:36<Onmp314>Thanks.
05:37<rudi_s>(And I don't know how well it interacts with the packages already in Debian.)
05:37<Onmp314>@rudi_s Asking KDE 3.5 no 4.

05:38<rudi_s>Onmp314: What?
05:39<Onmp314>I'm asking for KDE 3.5.
05:39<rudi_s>Onmp314: So?
05:39<Onmp314>Yes.
05:39<rudi_s>Anything besides the default version in Debian will be a major pain to build/use.
05:39<EmleyMoor>Onmp314: Are you asking for KDE (any version)? If so, the comment is appropriate
05:39<rudi_s>That's what I was saying.
05:40<Onmp314>@EmleyMoor Asking for KDE 3.5 no any version.
05:40<EmleyMoor>Is "KDE 3.5" a version of KDE?
05:40<Onmp314>@EmleyMoor Yes. Se to Wikipedia.
05:40<EmleyMoor>Then I refer you to the answer you were given some moments ago

05:42<Onmp314>Compilation KDE 3.5 on Debian 9 is too hard.
05:42<EmleyMoor>You'd have to build it yourself, which would probably not be easy, and you'd get no support here for that, but you can always go and find out...
05:42-!-dark-jedi [~dark-jedi@dark-jedi.user.oftc.net] has quit [Quit: Konversation terminated!]
05:42<EmleyMoor>... as you've already found out
05:43<Onmp314>@EmleyMoor Yes, but last version using KDE 3.5 is Debian 5.
05:43<rudi_s>Then you'll have to get use to the version in Debian.
05:44<EmleyMoor>Onmp314: Stop coming up with buts. You likely won't be able to install such an old Debian package.

05:45<Onmp314>I know that it does not install packages.
05:45<Onmp314>Sorry for polish.
05:46<Onmp314>Sorry for bad english.
05:46<EmleyMoor>Have we actually now understood correctly that you want KDE 3.5 in Ubuntu? If so you are quite definitely on the wrong channel
05:47<Onmp314>EmleyMoor I'm asking for Debian, not Ubuntu.
05:47<EmleyMoor>Onmp314: So you are considering installing Debian 9 for the purpose?
05:48<Onmp314>No. I am asking about KDE 3.5 whether it can be compiled on Debian 9.
05:49<EmleyMoor>And you apparently already know that it's difficult. We can't support you with it anyway
05:49<Onmp314>Bye Bye. I'm ask to kde.

06:26<Talkless>A bit of offtopic, it's more about networking but still... how could I recognise "transmission-qt" in firewall? I've tried to change /usr/bin/transmission-qt group to "torrent" and setgid-it, but it does not want to run with SNI error...
06:26<Talkless>I would machn on group to allow various outgoing ports
06:27<Talkless>(I'm using SHorewall with paranoid setup, when $FW net is reject by default)
06:27<Talkless>but these torrent applications produces lot's of noise, connectint go various different ports that peers have...
06:27<Talkless>so I thought I could just allow all ports for transmission-qt only
06:29<at0m>why do you bother with a firewall at all? this isn't windows.. if nothing listens to the port, connections to it are dropped. and if something is listening, you had better set it up to do so.
06:30<Talkless>actually just for fun at0m
06:30<at0m>or maybe there's many users on your machine, running a plethora of services you don't want, and you want to block those?
06:30<at0m>oh ok. have fun.
06:30<Talkless>and it's not about listening, but outgoing connections
06:31<Talkless>it's kinda learning experiens to see how various daemons applications behave
06:31<at0m>uhu
06:32<Talkless>and who knows, if some explit hits me, it woun't be able to send smtp spam or whatever :) . (unless he gets root perms of course..)
06:32<Talkless>and I might report some Shorewall bugs in the progres
06:33<Talkless>I've seen example somehwere that downlaods Firefox, and set it's gid to some different user, but for me, transmission fails:
06:33<Talkless>~$ LC_ALL=en_US /usr/bin/transmission-qt
06:33<Talkless>org.kde.knotifications: env says KDE is running but SNI unavailable -- check KDE_FULL_SESSION and XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP
06:33<Talkless>sendto: Operation not permitted
06:33<Talkless>or do my user also has to be in the "torrent" group?

10:35<ppc64>petn-randall: I swipe the top of the phone down to see usb connection options and I have tried all four options : TRandfer files and Transfer images and Connect a MIDI device and Charge this phone where the last does not much
10:38<ppc64>yep .. I have solidly .. no idea ...
10:39<ppc64>most likely a 'feature' of the latest Android update that disables file transfer unless I pay google for some 'cloud' storage or some similar baloney
10:41<ppc64>well mtp-detect gives a ton of info about the connected phone via libmtp version: 1.1.13
10:41<ppc64>however no mounted filesystems
10:42<piper>On the phone go to Settings > Developer Options (turn on if not already turned on) > scroll down to Select USB Configuration > select Media Transfer Protocol
10:42<piper>iI never owned a samsung device, but it should be no different
10:42<ppc64>one moment .. let's look ... there is no menu called 'Developer Options'
10:43<ppc64>well this is Android 8.0.0 on samsung .. I'll hunt around
10:43<piper>do you have system ?
10:45<ppc64>have system ? <-- what do you mean ?
10:45<piper>system - about phone > build number > and tap on that about 7 times, that should (on a normal phone) give you developer options
10:46<ppc64>ah ...
10:46<ppc64>well the about phone is where I see Android 8.0.0 ... okay .. let me tap on that repeatedly
10:46<piper>ppc64: I have only had nexus/pixel phones, so I am not familar with samsung phones
10:48<ppc64>yeah ... I hear you .. I have Samsung and Nexus here but the main phone is Samsung Galaxy
10:48<ppc64>time for me to go back to creative googling/duckduckduckgo
10:49<piper>all my nexus4,5, and pixel run anroid pie, so it is different, I do make my own rom also
10:51<ppc64>finally a message popped up on the phone saying I need Samsung SmartSwitch to access data from a connected device .. ssure ... whatever
10:51<piper>there is a chance you might have to do a /etc/udev/rules.d/69-libmtp.rules for that phone, again, I am not familar with it
10:52<piper>android debugging should be turned on from developer options
10:55<ppc64>yes .. I was just looking at the libmtp rules issues
10:56<ppc64>hope like hell I don't have to reboot and can just unload a kernel module
10:56<piper>ppc64: read https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=237164 10 posts down by nanners, that should help with your phone
10:57<ppc64>ha .. I have that and twelve other tabs open in firefox on the topic .. most are old out-of-date and of historical interest

10:59<ppc64>not sure how much more modern one needs to be . A Samsung Galaxy 7 or 8 with Android 8.0.0 and this is Debian buster
