21:09<rwp>A traditional environment would be a PXE boot using preseed.cfg files to automate everything. PXE boot to a fully deployed desktop is 10-15 minutes.

21:21<sdk>rwp: What's the limit of preseed.cfg? Is it limit only to package installation or could I also copy/paste or generate config file (e.g. network connection file)?
21:21<rwp>sdk, You can run scripts and programs so it is limited only by what you can do on a computer.
21:22<rwp>However the preseed.cfg system is not the friendliest, even to me. There is a learning curve to make it all work.
21:23<rwp>Also if you are automating then you will want to use a system configuration system such as puppet, chef, ansible, salt, or whatever you wish.
21:23<rwp>There is also the cloud-init system that if you set up systems at a VM hosting then you would use it at least to trigger the start of further configuration elsewhere.
21:24<rwp>sdk, What is the environment that you are wishing to automate? How big or small?
21:24<moop149>One machine.
21:27<sdk>Oh yeah that's definitely to powerful for my needs :). I have like 3 laptops and I just want to have the same config on all of them.
21:28<rwp>For three I would simply install on one of them and then clone the disk for the other two.
21:28<bremner>I use propellor for that. But you have to think writing haskell to configure your computer is a good idea
21:28<rwp>That would also be my answer if it were one of the other distributions that I work with too.
21:31*rwp has dinner time!
21:33<sdk>Maybe I'll stick with a good ol' post-install bash script :P
21:34<rwp>Before I do that... It used to be that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondo_Rescue was a good choice for making snapshots and then clones. But I think it is moribund now. Would probably still work though. Or one of the others in that topic space might do what you want nicely.
21:35<rwp>Basically install one and then use it as the reference to clone to others.
21:37<sdk>rwp: I'll think about it. Thanks for the advices ;)

22:04<blast007>broseph: if you're wanting to see all the text boot messages, might just be needing to remove the 'quiet' boot flag. the /etc/default/grub file has a 'GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT' setting that normally includes the quiet. You could change that to be a blank string (as in, GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="" )
22:07<blast007>if you're using systemd for init, you can use 'journalctl -b' (as root) to view the boot messages

23:35<lhvf>How to learn with bots?
23:36<annadane>that's not even a password, it's an auth code, i didn't know how drop worked until i messaged nickserv...
23:36<annadane>well what are you trying to do? /msg nickserv help drop says "releases your nickname for use and deletes it from the database"
23:36<annadane>if you really want to do that, you probably need a / before drop
