---Logopened Thu Feb 03 00:00:34 2005
00:03--- <<-- KeyserLaptop [~gazicm@user-0cej5mv.cable.mindspring.com] has quit ("Client exciting")
00:17Chutt osd works fine in xvmc mode here.
00:25--- <<-- gr8nash-home [~basketoju@24-53-230-214.losaca.adelphia.net] has quit (Read error: 60 (Operation timed out))
00:28--- ---> xris [~xris@xris.forevermore.net] has joined #mythtv
00:28xris having trouble poking around in the source. I know that there is a backend setting for AutoCommercialFlag, but is there also one for auto-transcode?
00:29dopester rkulagow: you got any other qestions?
00:34Captain_Murdo| xris, that's on the recording profiles I believe
00:35xris Captain_Murdoch: yeah, I'm trying to get a default value
00:36xris I guess I'll just leave it off. heh.
00:36Captain_Murdo| default for what? it's in the recording profile editor, I assume the default is 0 since most people don't transcode.
00:36Captain_Murdo| is this for the record table?
00:36Captain_Murdo| if so, you can leave it off for now.
00:37Captain_Murdo| I added that field with the jobqueue thinking that Geoffrey was going to use it when he was porting the transoder over to use the jobqueue, but then he didn't so I think it is unused right now.
00:38xris Captain_Murdoch: yeah. I just saw it as an option, figured I could add it in.
00:38xris gotcha.
00:38xris good enough for me
00:38Captain_Murdo| the other auto flags in there do apply though, just not autotranscode.
00:38xris btw, might someday want to rename the "station" field to "callsign" so it matches the other tables
00:39Captain_Murdo| and the default value for autocommflag is from the autocommercialflag setting, the default for the others is off unless the user turns it ON when setting up the scheduled recording.
00:39xris I'm trying to compartmentalize as much of mythweb as I can inside of program and schedule objects
00:39xris yeah, autocommercialflag is there and should be enabled/changeable now.
00:39xris well, as soon as you can actually save. heh.
00:42xris anyone see any problem with mythweb updating the title/description/etc fields from a program if one is used to change its schedule?
00:50dopester http://www.digitalregime.com/mythweb/program_listing.php <-- all filled in over the air :)
00:52xris nice. from atsc?
00:52dopester yeah
00:52xris sweet
00:52xris no categories kind of stucks.. but still nice.
00:53dopester yeah i was going to work on that at some point
00:53dopester they dont send any
00:53dopester could do some semi intelligent string matching
00:53dopester likes sports teams names
00:53dopester just such a low priority
00:55--- ---> gr8nash-home [~basketoju@24-53-230-214.losaca.adelphia.net] has joined #mythtv
00:56xris yeah
00:56xris so this is just because you don't like zap2it?
00:56dopester yes and no
00:56dopester i mean if the data is there it SHOULD be supported
00:56xris heh
00:56--- <<-- Shdwdrgn [Picard@sourpuss.net] has quit (Read error: 54 (Connection reset by peer))
00:56xris yes
00:56--- ---> Shdwdrgn [Picard@sourpuss.net] has joined #MYTHTV
00:56dopester and i don't like zap2it
00:57gr8nash-home | why not? becuase of who they work for?
00:58dopester its a way of tracking usage which i HATE
00:58dopester and its wrong for my hd stations
00:58dopester at least as of 2 weeks ago
00:58gr8nash-home | ahh..
00:59xris that would anny me more than the usage tracking.
00:59xris annoy
00:59dopester yeah
00:59dopester if i can get it ota 18 hours out im ok with it
00:59Chutt how's it usage tracking?
00:59dopester what ip is hitting us to download what guide
00:59Chutt no different from visiting their website.
00:59dopester what services do they subscribe to, etc..
01:00dopester dd can't be the same as looking at index.html
01:00Chutt err, sure it can
01:00Chutt it's the same data, just compressed.
01:00Chutt and all of it at once, instead of in little chunks
01:00Chutt where they _can_ see what you're really interested in
01:01dopester thats true, but i like having the option of getting it ota :)
01:01gr8nash-home | i agree.. though given the choice i like 13 days of data
01:01dopester if its there why not use it
01:01xris OTA would be good, esp. if it could be used to fix last-minute problems with zap2it's stuff.
01:02Chutt well, not with that quality data that it's showing on his page
01:02dopester i just setup the shows i want so as long as the scheduler has enough time to do its thing im ok with it
01:02Chutt all the descriptions are just generic ones
01:02dopester ALL of them?
01:02xris I still think that tv-viewing is one area where I *want* people to know what I'm watching.
01:02Chutt most of em
01:02Chutt the tonight show, for instance :p
01:02dopester id say 1/2
01:03dopester they just turned it on a few days ago.. gotta cut em some slack
01:03Chutt there's no original airdate
01:03Chutt etc
01:03dopester what do i need that for?
01:03xris it's handy for duplicate checking
01:03dopester we have different habits of tv watching.. not worth arguing over
01:03xris or rerun checking
01:03xris true.
01:03Chutt recording only first run episodes, dupe checking
01:05* xris can't wait for the mythweb fixes to be done
01:06dopester well even if ya don't like the guide quality its an option for people who are on dialup
01:06gr8nash-home | true.. though dialup works ok.. with a script =/
01:07dopester man you guys sure are raggin on me for the ota guide stuff.. geezz :)
01:08xris I'm not
01:10--- ---> CanadaBoy [~none@fctnnbsch17-156034211166.nb.aliant.net] has joined #mythtv
01:10Chutt heh
01:10Chutt didn't notice the icons at the top of mythweb
01:11* xris is busy bashing his head against a php wall
01:11xris lol, they've been there for a couple of weeks now.
01:11xris I really like the new blue theme
01:11xris figured mythweb needed a makeover.
01:11xris will redo the rest of it when I have time again.
01:12Chutt heh, cool.
01:12xris I'm also redoing a TON of it to get rid of tables that shouldn't be there.

01:16xris Chutt: you ever hear of mythfrontend segfaulting when trying to play an mpeg2 livetv?
01:17xris or anything I could do to figure out what's going on?
01:17Chutt sorry, no
01:17Chutt only thing you can do is get a backtrace, really
01:18xris guess I'll have to figure out how to do that at some point (after mythweb, I think)
01:18Chutt heh
01:18xris my pvr-150 seems to work well enough, but when I try to use it with myth, the frontend (not backend) segfaults
01:18Chutt funky
01:18xris very
01:18Chutt probably something simple
01:18xris yeah
01:19xris thought for a sec that it might be the livetv buffer dir, but I set it to /tmp so that I wouldn't have issues. heh
01:19xris oh well. no time to play now.
01:20xris SO close with this mythweb stuff
01:20Chutt people need to remove the damn [patch] when they're replying and talking about things
01:20--- ---> tobo [~tobo@1-1-12-13c.han.sth.bostream.se] has joined #mythtv
01:21Chutt kinda defeats the purpose.
01:22--- <<-- Netslayer [~chris@c-24-126-202-231.we.client2.attbi.com] has quit (Remote closed the connection)
01:22xris heh
01:23xris don't even get me started about email etiquette... I spend too much time dealing with non-techies who don't understand inline quoting or anything nice like that.
01:23Chutt heh
01:23Chutt at work, everyone uses outlook and doesn't inline quote anything
01:24xris does outlook even do that?
01:24Chutt yeah, it can
01:24Chutt it'll even autocolor things
01:24xris my real estate agent thought it was a cool thing when I replied to her with inline quoting, but when she tried to reply, it got all messed up.
01:24dopester everyone at work now has the "cingular raising the bar" jpg in their signature.. so every mail is at LEAST 20k
01:24xris I'm glad that we have a strict firefox/thunderbird policy at work.
01:25Chutt i need a new cellphone
01:25* xris does, too
01:25xris but really, I just want my bluetooth headset to come back and work.
01:25Beirdo you broke it that fast?
01:25Chutt i want my phone to not get stuck in speakerphone mode
01:26dopester i love mine.. my bill hasn't gotten audited in years
01:26Chutt and not being able to get out of it without removing the battery a few times
01:26xris ouch
01:26Chutt and i want it to connect faster than the 30 seconds it currently takes before any call i make to start ringing
01:26xris Beirdo: that's what I get for buying the first-ever run. first batch of plastic was mixed wrong, and it cracked.
01:26dopester they must have one crappy switch up there chutt
01:27Chutt i think they changed things recently, and my phone missed an update
01:27Chutt or it's just dying
01:27Chutt my wife's phone (same plan, different phone) doesn't have such difficulty
01:27dopester update.. must be cdma?
01:27Chutt nfc =)
01:28Beirdo xris: that sucks
01:28Chutt hrm
01:28Chutt that's all the patches that i'm aware of
01:29Chutt aside from that playlist stuff in music that i temporarily rejected
01:29Chutt only took 2.5 hours tonight
01:29Chutt heh
01:29xris Beirdo: well, I get a free new headset out of the deal, and got to keep my battery, etc.
01:29xris so now I have spares.
01:29Chutt most of that was fixing xvmc with bob, though
01:30* xris grumbles and goes back to poke at mythweb
01:30Chutt have fun
01:30Chutt i'm going to read a book
01:31xris hmm, read... haven't really done that since grad school.
01:31xris books, that is.
01:32Chutt http://www.mythtv.org/books/
01:32Chutt wow, haven't updated that in a while
01:32Chutt maybe i'll do that, first
01:33xris lol
01:33gr8nash-home | those books your favorites?
01:33Chutt no
01:34Chutt my collection
01:34Chutt those are the new ones
01:34Chutt well, they were back in october
01:34xris this is the one I started over a year ago: http://tinyurl.com/4cyfl
01:34xris (my wife was an Indian lit emphasis English major in undergrad)
01:35xris good book, though, if you like that sort of thing.
01:36gr8nash-home | umm sounds great
01:36dopester last book i read was during jury selection... 800 page book on stalin.. before that i got no idea
01:37xris gr8nash-home: I spent 2-3 years in undergrad and a year of grad school studying India (modern and ancient). I don't "get" the literature stuff like she does, but I've enjoyed the books she recommends.
01:38gr8nash-home | they gonna resart the freenode servers i take it
01:38Beirdo Hmm?
01:38Beirdo they haven't walloped anything about it
01:38gr8nash-home | -dmwaters- {global notice} Hi all, in about 25 mins, I'm going to start rebooting a couple of our servers for updates. This should only take about 5 mins at the most. Thank you for your patience, and thank you for using freenode!

01:47dcstimm_ i just hope 0.17 compiles with -O2
01:47dcstimm_ errr
01:47dcstimm_ O3
01:47Chutt probably won't.
01:48dcstimm_ what needs to be done for it to?
01:48Chutt absolutely nothing.
01:48dcstimm_ then what breaks it?
01:48Chutt wasn't aware that it was broken in the first place.
01:49dcstimm_ yeah it never compiles with O3
01:49Chutt does just fine here
01:49dcstimm_ maybe I have some stronger optimizations that are causing chaos with 03
01:49dcstimm_ O3
01:50Chutt nothing but the default compile options are supported.
01:50dcstimm_ CFLAGS="-march=pentium4 -O2 -pipe -mfpmath=sse -fomit-frame-pointer"
01:50dcstimm_ that compiles fine
01:50Chutt those aren't the defaults
01:50Chutt and thus aren't supported.
01:50dcstimm_ -march=pentium4 -O3 -pipe -mfpmath=sse -fomit-frame-pointer
01:50dcstimm_ that does not
01:51dcstimm_ what is default?
01:51Chutt what you get without changing anything.
01:51Chutt that's the generally accepted meaning of 'defaults'
01:51Randall32 Is -O3 worthwhile on x86?
01:51dcstimm_ is ppc optimizations supported?
01:51Chutt nope
01:51dcstimm_ Randall32, yes
01:51dcstimm_ Chutt, yes it is
01:51Chutt randall32, not really
01:51Chutt how so?
01:52dcstimm_ Chutt, bench a system
01:52Chutt i have
01:52dcstimm_ so have I
01:52dcstimm_ on low memory O2 is better
01:52Chutt doubt it.
01:52Chutt anyway
01:52dcstimm_ anyway?
01:52Chutt anything but the default compile options are not supported
01:53dcstimm_ what is default? I have to specify something:)
01:53Chutt no, you don't
01:53Chutt if you don't change anything, you get the defaults.
01:53Chutt how's that hard to understand?
01:53* Beirdo shakes his head
01:54Beirdo some people. :)
01:54Randall32 The gcc manpage suggests that -O3 isn't a big winner on x86 :)
01:54dcstimm_ Chutt, well O3 is still broken
01:54Chutt i don't give a rats ass
01:54Chutt if you're not using the defaults, i _don't care_
01:55dcstimm_ Randall32, where does it say that?
01:55Randall32 This optimiza-
01:55Randall32 tion will most benefit processors with lots of registers.
01:55dcstimm_ which is later x86 cpus and ppc cpus
01:56Chutt later x86 cpus?
01:56dcstimm_ sse for example
01:56dopester what part of "i dont care" didn't you get? :)
01:56* Randall32 coughs
01:56* Randall32 coughs
01:56Randall32 x86 doesn't get any more registers or it's no longer x86
01:57Beirdo Jeez, let Chutt do his work in peace
01:57Chutt work?
01:57Beirdo patches, etc :)
01:57Chutt oh, i'm done with that
01:58Beirdo :) Oh that's good.
01:58dcstimm_ work is something you dont enjoy doing, so I have no problem bugging someone that is having fun doing what he wants
01:58Chutt bugging?
01:58Chutt heh
01:58dcstimm_ Chutt, talking to you is bugging you
01:58Beirdo I enjoy doing my work, speak for yourself
01:58Chutt i guess i don't work

01:59Chutt see, that's not fun
01:59dcstimm_ thats even more fun
02:00Chutt dealing with utter morons isn't fun
02:00dcstimm_ rewarding when its fixed
02:00dcstimm_ Chutt, you dont have to deal with anyone
02:00dcstimm_ just put some headphones on and dont log onto irc, or lock mythtv from users:)

21:44Captain_Murdo| Chutt, you around?
21:46Chutt no
21:46Captain_Murdo| :) what do you think about Kevin's post about not removing recording metadata if the file doesn't exist when you try to delete it.
21:47Chutt sure
21:47Chutt or if the delete fails.
21:47Captain_Murdo| I thought I might have broken that back in Sept when I reworked some of that code, but I just checked and even the old code removed the recorded table entry then went and spawned the thread if the file existed.
21:48Captain_Murdo| ok, I'll reply and take a look at it since I messed with that code last.
21:48Chutt cool.
21:49Captain_Murdo| I've seen a few people have that same complaint over the past few months. it was their fault because their system didn't mount a nfs dir or something, but if we can work around it easy, then why not do the workaround.
21:50Captain_Murdo| something like root only has 2G free, video mount has 100G free, auto-expire set to keep 5GB free, video dir isn't mounted, and auto-expire just happily deletes all their recordings to try to get that 5G free. :)

22:13Captain_Murdo| main reason for using X is to have more text windows open. :)

23:20Chutt gfiend, here?
23:24Tommck How long is reasonable to wait for your patch to be accepted/rejected?
23:27Chutt about a year.
23:27Tommck hehe
23:28Chutt you added the external grab thing, right?
23:28Tommck yeah
23:28Chutt why don't you just use the perl script that the datadirect people distribute?
23:28Tommck umm...
23:28Tommck never heard of it :)
23:28Chutt read the forums.
23:29Tommck does it get the data without using wget somehow?
23:29Chutt yes.
23:29Tommck ahh.. interesting

23:30Chutt of course.

23:30Tommck ok... just checking...
23:30Tommck sorry... my brain's fried...
23:30hackspike what would you guys suggest as the best platform to install myth on?
23:31Chutt linux.
23:31hackspike i know that
23:31hackspike redhat, mandrake, debian?
23:31Chutt whatever you feel like.
23:31hackspike is anyone easier then the other
23:31hackspike i have been trying with mandrake 10.0 having a tough time
23:31Tommck hackspike - are you familiar with administering one of them?
23:31Chutt well, it's assumed that you'd have some favorite distribution, seeing as you're asking in the mythtv development channel.
23:32hackspike Tommck not really
23:32hackspike there is no one in paticular i know better
23:32Chutt if, instead you just didn't bother to read the topic of the channel before asking what's clearly an off-topic question...
23:32Chutt the answer's still the same
23:32Chutt use whatever the hell you want to use.
23:33Chutt it doesn't make any difference whatsoever.
23:33hackspike ok im just asking
23:33dopester unless you use broken ebuilds :)
23:33hackspike no reason to get pissed
23:37streamtrade is this a good time to report a "bug" in current cvs?
23:38Chutt sure
23:39streamtrade if a theme is missing button_on.png or button_off.png mythfrontend segfaults
23:39Chutt if the theme author lied to it about what files there are?
23:40streamtrade thats one way to look at it, or if there is a typo
23:41Chutt it does print out an error, first :p
23:41streamtrade I noticed that too, but the path in the error is not the place where the program is looking for the file
23:41Chutt it's one of the places.
23:42streamtrade ok, now I know that too
23:43Chutt there's really no way to recover from those files missing
23:43Chutt they're required to layout the buttons on screen.
23:44streamtrade can a replacement file be created on the fly?
23:44Chutt how?
23:44streamtrade ie a blank png
23:44Chutt what size?
23:44Chutt how's it supposed to know?
23:46dopester could do a complete screen of "your theme is fucked up"
23:46Chutt or it could print out a message and die
23:46streamtrade A message to that effect would have saved me a few hours tonight
23:46dopester chutt said there was a message
23:47Chutt there's two, actually
23:47streamtrade there is a message but it pointed me to a blank directory
23:47streamtrade at least I got to play with gdb and myth
23:47Chutt Error loading image file: /usr/local/share/mythtv/themes/default/button_off.png
23:47Chutt 2005-02-03 23:47:05.545 ThemedMenuPrivate: The 'normal' tag needs to come before the 'normaltext' tag
23:47streamtrade I saw that message, made no sense to me
23:48Chutt so, send in a patch that has a better one.
23:48Chutt makes perfect sense to me
23:48streamtrade heh
23:48streamtrade ok
