11:25--- ---> absd [~a@203-217-50-15.dyn.iinet.net.au] has joined #mythtv
11:26absd Can anyone explain why it makes sense to have the magic number "29.97" lying all over myth's source?
11:26kvandivo i suspect that a google search for that number will reveal all
11:27absd I have asked google, and I return a blank... hence me arriving here and asking... Feel free to make me look stupid with some google search terms :)
11:28kvandivo 29.97 mythtv comes to mind
11:30absd There doesn't appear to be any documentation on that particular design decision. It doesn't seem to make sense when there's many different video standards over the world that don't use 29.97 as the frame rate
11:30absd at very least, shouldn't it be in a parent header file somewhere so it's a one-time change, or even better, a setup option in the db, or a config file?
11:33Chutt because it's changed whenever the file format's different, or the user has selected pal to record with, etc?
11:33Chutt so having a variable be initialized with a reasonable default doesn't matter?
11:35absd I'm guessing there's somewhere it's not set properly... mythcommflag appears to detect the commercial breaks properly, though seems to mark commercials about 10 seconds early every 7 minutes playtime
11:35absd You'd suggest I ignore the framerate setting, and look for somewhere it's not detected correctly? Or...?
11:35Chutt exactly.
11:35absd (btw, I'm using pal @ 25fps)
11:36absd Any showstoppers you can think of... ie is it perhaps impossible for mythcommflag to pass back the right numbers as it dumps the cutlist without some component having access to the FPS of the source video?
11:37Chutt no.
11:38absd Should I log the bug somewhere first, or just fix it and post a patch (If it's more than a coupla hours work it'll take me a few weeks to find time)
11:41Chutt fix it and post a patch
11:41Chutt you _are_ in the dev channel.

13:05kvandivo the mailing list is your best bet, probably
13:06--- ---> riksta [~rick@81-178-199-213.dsl.pipex.com] has joined #mythtv
13:06CoolerQ the radeon driver in 2.6.11 is broken and I'd like to add an ifdef around calls to DRMVideoSync
13:07CoolerQ do you think people would just dismiss it as a hack to fix someone else's bug?
13:08Chutt yup
13:08CoolerQ heh
13:09CoolerQ I would argue that OpenGLVideoSync has the same kind of ifdef around it
13:10Chutt uh, no, it doesn't.
13:10CoolerQ yes it does
13:10CoolerQ libs/libmythtv/vsync.cpp
13:10Chutt how's that?
13:10CoolerQ #ifdef USING_OPENGL_VSYNC
13:10CoolerQ TESTVIDEOSYNC(OpenGLVideoSync)
13:10CoolerQ #endif
13:10CoolerQ I'd suggest the same thing around DRMVideoSync
13:10Chutt you can't distinguish between an ifdef for an additional dependency and one for functionality that's present everywhere?
13:11CoolerQ evidently it's not present everywhere if the kernel barfs when you try to use it
13:11Chutt no, that's different.
13:11kvandivo the beauty of open source is that you can always change it in your copy, CoolerQ.
13:12Chutt you really can't distinguish between a _source_ dependency and code that will run everywhere?
13:12Chutt i don't give a damn if a particular kernel's broken.
13:13Chutt simply don't use that kernel, then
13:14Chutt ifdefs should only exist for build issues.
13:14Chutt not runtime crap
13:15CoolerQ how about a runtime config option?
13:16Chutt how about detecting that it's broken without bothering the user?
13:17CoolerQ I don't think that's possible
13:17CoolerQ since the kernel oops's and kills the process
13:17Chutt too bad
13:17CoolerQ I suppose I could fork and check from a new process
13:17CoolerQ but that seems pretty wasteful to do every time a video starts
13:17Chutt i'm not adding a config option to deal with one broken kernel.
13:42thor_ so we need to break more kernels then

16:17Aran it seems that mythtv (even CVS) doesn't work with the HD3000 v4l driver in the pcHDTV-2.0 package, mythtv won't change channels, I think because the driver doesn't implement VIDIOC_ENUMINPUT

16:18Aran I have a patch for the pcHDTV driver, but I don't see anyone else complaining about this so I'm wondering if I just don't have something set up right, or if no one cares about the v4l driver any more
