05:22<eQualizer>What port does content downloading use?
05:22<@Rubidium>the same one advertising uses
05:23<dihedral>^^
05:23*petern ponders migrating this laptop to debian lenny from ubugtu
05:24<eQualizer>...sorry? I just mean, I'm at work right now, and I just installed OpenTTD and OpenGFX (<3), but online content doesn't find anything. Just says can't connect to content server.
05:24<dihedral>scratchy
05:24<dihedral>eQualizer, then the port is probably blocked!
05:24<eQualizer>And it could be because almost all ports (except 22, 80, etc) are blocked.
05:25<dihedral>and if you are at work, WORK!
05:25<dihedral>what does your boss pay you for? open source game testing?
05:25<eQualizer>I'm a receptionist, so my work is quite passive...
05:25<@petern>!ports
05:25<@petern>@openttd ports
05:25<@DorpsGek>petern: OpenTTD uses TCP and UDP port 3979 for server <-> client communication and UDP port 3978 for masterserver (advertise) communication (outbound)
05:26<dihedral>i'd expect all UDP to be blocked
05:26<dihedral>you should not need it outgoing
05:26<@petern>yeah, traceroute's aren't useful
05:26<@Rubidium>dihedral: yeah... that'd be fun ;)
05:26<@petern>'
05:26<@petern>'
05:26<@petern>'
05:26<@petern>'
05:26<@petern>'
05:26<@petern>there, that's my quota of misplaced apostrophes
05:26<dihedral>Rubidium, blocking all udp or testing open source games ^^
05:27<@Rubidium>blocking all udp
05:27<dihedral>there is no issue with that
05:27<dihedral>anything you need internally you can relay
05:27<eQualizer>Would there be anyway to add some proxy settings to OpenTTD?
05:27<@Rubidium>trying to go to http://www.ihavenotbeenherebefore.com/ without udp
05:27-!-HackaLittleBit [~Hack@195-23-22-254.net.novis.pt] has joined #openttd
05:27<@petern>local dns server
05:27<dihedral>like i said, anything you might need will be relayed
05:27<dihedral>that includes dns and ntp
05:28<@petern>(which is allowed, but only the appropriate ports)
05:28<@Rubidium>but then you haven't blocked all udp!
05:28<dihedral>depends
05:28<dihedral>if your router is also the relay ^^
05:28<@Rubidium>eQualizer: just set up a transparent socks proxy
05:29<dihedral>somewhere on the other side of the firewall :-P
05:30-!-Zahl [~Zahl@g228026055.adsl.alicedsl.de] has joined #openttd
05:31<eQualizer>Rubidium: But I still would need to make OpenTTD use it?
05:31<eQualizer>To use localhost and some port?
05:32<@Rubidium>that's where hosts (the file) comes in handy
05:32<@petern>hmm
05:32<@petern>backing up 30GB at 10MB/s
05:33<@petern>hmm, 50 minutes?
05:33<dihedral>eQualizer, do consider, that your network admins might not approve
05:33<dihedral>also consider that people have lost their jobs for not following the network quitelines / requirements
05:34<dihedral>*guidelines
05:34<@petern>nah, can't be
05:34<eQualizer>I'm quite free to do what I want her, as long as I don't destroy anything...
05:34<eQualizer>Like install OpenTTD.
05:34<eQualizer>here*
05:35<@petern>me too
05:35<@petern>including maintaining the network, heh
05:36<@petern>and everything else
05:36<dihedral>:-)
05:36<planetmaker>[10:32] <petern> backing up 30GB at 10MB/s <-- sounds like a job for a night time cron job ;)
05:36<dihedral>the joy of being the admin ^^
05:36<@petern>planetmaker, but it's one off
05:36<@petern>from a laptop
05:36<planetmaker>he :P
05:36<@petern>done 1.8GB
05:36<@petern>so i guess 50 minutes might be right
05:36<dihedral>petern, cron job that only runs once every year? :-P
05:36<dihedral>petern, backing up via wireless? :-P
05:36<@petern>a cronjob that runs once now?
05:36<planetmaker>dihedral: there are uses for that, too...
05:37<@petern>no, ethernet
05:37<dihedral>yes, but you forget them ;-D
05:37<@petern>10MB/s, as in megabytes
05:37<planetmaker>dihedral: how do I forget them, if they're in the cron ?
05:37<dihedral>petern, what about connecting the hdd directly to the other computer?
05:37<@petern>it's a laptop
05:37<dihedral>yes you said that
05:37<dihedral>so?
05:37<@petern>i do not have an appropriate adapter
05:37<dihedral>ah
05:38<dihedral>well yes, that'd be a bummer then :-D
05:38<@petern>2.6GB
05:38<Forked># TERRIBLE LIE
05:38<@petern>and i'm only backing it up so i can wipe it ;)
05:39<@petern>then i can wipe out the old windows partition
05:39<@petern>give 30GB to debian
05:39<@petern>should be happy
05:39<dihedral>petern, you'd be faster to mail-order the adapter, and continue once it's arrived :-D
05:39<@petern>50 minutes? not really
05:40<@petern>you do remember when i copied 120GB over a week right?
05:40<@Rubidium>the one with hourly updates?
05:41<dihedral>:-D
05:42<@petern>yeah
05:42<@petern>hmm
05:42<Forked>so much hostility .. makes me sad :\
05:42<@petern>odd, my server is struggling under the IO :/
05:42<Forked>I really should stop reading forums
05:42<@petern>what ho... oh
05:42<@petern>loadavg 2.3 :/
05:43<Forked>god damn commercials on spotify
05:44<@petern>ah, the old "it was a joke" get out clause
05:45<@petern>5GB!"
05:45<@petern>;)
05:45<@petern>this is somewhat quicker, because that time i was copying over a congested 200KB/s link
05:55<planetmaker>[10:44] <petern> ah, the old "it was a joke" get out clause <-- especially well pulled, if the next sentence reads along the lines of "I'm right despite..."

12:06<Aali>but god is it annoying
12:06<NukeBuster>nice so am I with TE :P
12:06<@petern>using threads?
12:06<Aali>honestly, I don't know
12:06<Aali>I'm not using threads, but its a dll so
12:06<NukeBuster>i think he is, it has something todo with creating textures out of the opengl rendering thread.
12:07<NukeBuster>hmm..
12:07<Aali>is the gl context bound to the thread?
12:07-!-maristo [~maristo@host217-114-156-151.pppoe.mark-itt.net] has joined #openttd
12:08<NukeBuster>I haven't solved the issue for myself yet. But uzurpator told me that is why we are getting segfaults at that point.
12:08<NukeBuster>are you getting a segfault?
12:09<Aali>well its usually because you haven't set up a gl context, or because you haven't called glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_2D), but I'm 100% certain I've done that
12:09<Aali>yes
12:09<Aali>in some random code segment, my code isn't crashing
12:10<NukeBuster>ok, but it happens on the line where you load the texture?
12:10<Aali>yes
12:10<NukeBuster>that is exactly the same issue as we are having...
12:11<Aali>well
12:11<Aali>glGenTextures doesn't load the texture
12:11<Aali>but thats where its crashing
12:11<NukeBuster>indeed, the glGenTextures doesn't load the texture
12:13<@petern>i breaks in openttd when it's called in a different thread
12:13<@petern>(with my patch)
12:13<@petern>maybe you just need a texture manager thread that handles all loading
12:14<NukeBuster>aali, do you have an easy way to switch do directx (jusnt to try)
12:14<NukeBuster>directx shouldn't have that issue
12:14<@petern>ew :p
12:14<Aali>err
12:14<+glx>NukeBuster: different APIs
12:14<Aali>that makes no sense
12:14<NukeBuster>we are using Ogre
12:14<Aali>I'm developing an opengl driver
12:14<NukeBuster>ah
12:14<Aali>the dx driver works fine
12:15<+glx>NukeBuster: then you don't use opengl or directx directly
12:15<NukeBuster>no we don't

12:17<Aali>now I call wglMakeCurrent and glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_2D) just before glGenTextures
12:18<@petern>so are you TE dev now, or just trying to get it workign?
12:18<Aali>so it's definitely in the same thread
12:18<Aali>and I get no errors
12:18<NukeBuster>just trying to get it working on linux :)
12:18<Aali>just the crash
12:18<@petern>heh

12:19<@petern># nothing can stop me now

12:20<@petern>has uzurpator discovered coding style yet?
12:20<NukeBuster>somewhat, but he apperently is unable to switch from spaces to tabs
12:20<@Belugas>-style
12:20<NukeBuster>for indenting...
12:20<@petern>and he uses msvc?
12:20<NukeBuster>yes

20:46<eMjay88>ok, so say my network admin has somehow set up the router to kick me from the wifi when I use bittorrent
20:47<eMjay88>does anyone know how to get around this?
20:47<+glx>don't use bittorrent
20:48<eMjay88>ok, does anyone know how to get around this AND keep using bittorrent?
20:48<thingwath>protocol encryption may help :)
20:48<+glx>maybe it's just a bad router
20:48<@Rubidium>keep killing the network admin until the problem is fixed?
20:48<eMjay88>I'm pretty sure it's already encrypted
20:49<eMjay88>glx: you mean I'm crashing the router with bt traffic?
20:49<+glx>yes
20:49<eMjay88>hmmm
20:49<+glx>some routers don't even support openttd traffic on wifi
20:50<eMjay88>dmesg tells me "wlan1: No ProbeResp from current AP 00:13:46:c8:82:62 - assume out of range"
20:50<eMjay88>that could indicate that the router died...
20:51<+glx>easy to check if someone else is connected on this router
20:51<SmatZ>the problem can be many new connections in short period of time
20:52<eMjay88>perhaps I can limit the bandwidth, and see if that fixes it...
20:52<+glx>half-connections indeed

20:53<eMjay88>I use deluge atm, it's not fantastic but ok
20:53<eMjay88>it does have bandwidth settings
20:53<+glx>it's probably not a bandwith problem
20:54<+glx>on µtorrent I just set net.max_half_open to 1 and windows no longer complains about TCP
20:55<+glx>maybe you have a similar setting
21:02<eMjay88>I have max half-open connections, it is set to 8 (default)
21:02<eMjay88>tooltip says: "A high value may crash some cheap routers" :P
21:03<+glx>try to set it to 1 :)
21:03<thingwath>hm, ktorrent has something like "maximum number of connection setups", set to 50, and I have no idea what is it, possibly the same thing?
21:03<eMjay88>do you think 200 is too high for maximum connections in general?
21:04<+glx>established connection != half_open
21:04<eMjay88>i realise that :)
21:05<+glx>I have 600 as max and 100 per torrent
21:06<+glx>but only 1 halfopen :)
21:06<thingwath>hm, 100 peers for a torrent, that can happen? :)

21:25<thingwath>I guess it's a state of the connection before you get the ACK
21:27<eMjay88>w'pedia says it's when one end has closed the connection but not told the other end
21:28<eMjay88>and then goes on to say that the remaining open end may not expect replies, keeping the connection persistently half-open
