10:17<Nachtfalter:#openttd>Hallo.
10:17<Nachtfalter:#openttd>Version 16085, Windows32.

10:19<Forked:#openttd>I understand that there is a problem and it involves something about 120kb in 10 minutes..
10:19<TrueBrain:#openttd>Nachtfalter: so your connection is too slow ;)
10:19<Nachtfalter:#openttd>If I download some from the Internet with my Browser I have a downstream like 670kb/s
10:20<Nachtfalter:#openttd>something*
10:20<TrueBrain:#openttd>okay, maybe I should put it differently:
10:20<TrueBrain:#openttd>your connection to the server is too slow
10:20<Forked:#openttd>so the connection between you and the server is crap..
10:20<TrueBrain:#openttd>local I can download at 1000 mbit/sec
10:20<TrueBrain:#openttd>from the internet I am lucky to reach 980 mbit/sec
10:20<Forked:#openttd>TrueBrain: oh shut up.

10:20<TrueBrain:#openttd>;)
10:20<Nachtfalter:#openttd>(tracert to the Server)
10:21<TrueBrain:#openttd>if other people can join, and you can't, and you are all using unmodified versions, you can be very sure it is just a bad connection between you and him :)
10:21<TrueBrain:#openttd>(for what ever reason)
10:21<Forked:#openttd>responsetime is not the same..

10:24<Xaroth:#openttd>Nachtfalter: you running any downloads while playing?

10:25<Nachtfalter:#openttd>for weeks it works
10:25<Nachtfalter:#openttd>but today not
10:25<Xaroth:#openttd>well the thing is, if your wireless signal is being crap
10:25<Xaroth:#openttd>it will disrupt any connectivity you have
10:25<Xaroth:#openttd>and mess up your connection
10:25<dihedral:#openttd>then try using the nightly you used weeks ago when it worked, if you believe it has something to do with openttd

10:34<Quit:#openttd>It's 512x2048
10:34<dihedral:#openttd>that has nothing to do with the mapsize
10:34<Xaroth:#openttd>still, try a small map
10:35<Xaroth:#openttd>see if the same issue occurs
10:35<dihedral:#openttd>and i am assuming they played that size more often
10:35<Quit:#openttd>We played the same map for that weeks
10:35<dihedral:#openttd>see
10:36<Quit:#openttd>He participated since the beginning
10:36<TrueBrain:#openttd>enable pause-on-join, and try again
10:36<Quit:#openttd>And we are still playing the same map
10:36<dihedral:#openttd>no wonder it's that big!
10:36<@Rubidium:#openttd>you're not running two servers using the same directory, are you?
10:36<Quit:#openttd>One server.
10:36<TrueBrain:#openttd>Quit: how many people can join?
10:37<Quit:#openttd>Maybe autopilot messed up something when it crashed some time ago, but I don't think it did
10:37<Quit:#openttd>Uh, let me see.
10:37<Quit:#openttd>6 afaik
10:37<TrueBrain:#openttd>so 6 people from remote locations can join, and one can not?
10:37<Quit:#openttd>At least 3 could
10:37<TrueBrain:#openttd>now you are not making any sense
10:37<Quit:#openttd>the other 3 didn't try today, but in the last few.
10:37<dihedral:#openttd>Quit, how would autopilot do that??
10:38<Quit:#openttd>dihedral: didn't kill the openttd-process or something like that, that was @ 2 servers
10:38<TrueBrain:#openttd>so if 3 people can join, and 1 person can not, I think we can safely say it is the 1 person whos connection is borked (or maybe his disk is full :p)
10:38<dihedral:#openttd>Quit, update ap+
10:39<Quit:#openttd>dihedral: I'm using an SVN co from, I don't know, when we begun the game
10:39<dihedral:#openttd>...
10:39<dihedral:#openttd>svn up?
10:39<Quit:#openttd>?
10:39<dihedral:#openttd>the issue of not closing openttd correctly in a detached screen is fixed
10:40<dihedral:#openttd>in ap+ at least
10:40<Nachtfalter:#openttd><TrueBrain>so if 3 people can join, and 1 person can not, I think we can safely say it is the 1 person whos connection is borked (or maybe his disk is full :p) <-- disk is not full
10:40<Quit:#openttd>I'm using around revision 695
10:40<Nachtfalter:#openttd>and my connection to other apps is pretty good
10:40<dihedral:#openttd>Nachtfalter, leaving your net connection
10:40<Quit:#openttd>and yes, ap+

10:40<Xaroth:#openttd>Quit: what server revision are you using?
10:40<Nachtfalter:#openttd>dihedral: ?
10:40<Xaroth:#openttd>or better yet, what IP
10:40<Quit:#openttd>16085
10:41<Quit:#openttd>The server isn't up at the moment
10:41<Quit:#openttd>I'm trying the "Try a smaller map"-thing
10:41<dihedral:#openttd>Rubidium, will that fix every number being drawn using only one digit: 0
10:41<dihedral:#openttd>or has that already been fixed?
10:41-!-mikl [~mikl@90.184.195.240] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
10:42<dihedral:#openttd>Nachtfalter, comparing your net connections 'appearance' in other apps is not gonna help you
10:42<dihedral:#openttd>openttd is pretty sensitive
10:42<Nachtfalter:#openttd>But what can i do, except use lan cable?
10:42<dihedral:#openttd>a wireless will cause issues (can cause issues) on openttd, whereas with css it will not
10:42<dihedral:#openttd>Nachtfalter, have you tried it?
10:42<dihedral:#openttd>tried using a wired connection?
10:43<Nachtfalter:#openttd>Need a 20meter cable...so: Not. :/
10:43<Xaroth:#openttd>O_O no wonder the wireless signal is crap :P
10:43<Quit:#openttd>He could join with map of 2^8*2^8
10:43<Quit:#openttd>empty map
10:43<dihedral:#openttd>well, if people here say what the issue could be, and you show no intent in trying what possibilities are given, i am sorry, but that makes helping you an issue in itself
10:43<Nachtfalter:#openttd>60 percent...
10:43<Quit:#openttd>Is it lagging?
10:43<Nachtfalter:#openttd>no
10:44<Nachtfalter:#openttd>I mean 60% wlan signal.
10:44<Quit:#openttd>ah.
10:44<Xaroth:#openttd>Quit: what server IP?
10:44<Nachtfalter:#openttd>thats not soo bad...

10:44<Quit:#openttd>password foo
10:44<Quit:#openttd>It seems like the save lags for him.?
10:44<dihedral:#openttd>Nachtfalter, some people have 100% signals strength, still the signal is crap ^^
10:44<Nachtfalter:#openttd>The distance to the router on air-line is not so much, but its the architectual wonder how stretch the distance to the router for a cable... ;)
10:44<Nachtfalter:#openttd>And dont kill me for my english please.
10:45<TrueBrain:#openttd>Quit: do you have pause-on-join active?
10:45<dihedral:#openttd>you could try moving your computer if moving the router or finding a long enough cable is not an option
10:45<Quit:#openttd>I don't know. The game says something about pausing for joining client
10:45<Quit:#openttd>And after a second or two it unpauses.
10:45<Quit:#openttd>so I guess "no"
10:45<TrueBrain:#openttd>then I guess you have it active :p
10:45<dihedral:#openttd>i am sure as a temporary test that should not be an issue
10:45<Quit:#openttd>max_join_time = 500
10:45<Quit:#openttd>pause_on_join = true
10:46<TrueBrain:#openttd>as for Nachtfalter it means you are in pause for 10 minutes
10:46<Quit:#openttd>No.
10:46<TrueBrain:#openttd>(although 10 minutes is very much impossible, but okay)
10:46<Quit:#openttd>It doesn't pause when a client is downloading the map
10:46<TrueBrain:#openttd>that is the whole idea of pause-on-join ...
10:46<Quit:#openttd>Yes
10:46<dihedral:#openttd>TrueBrain, it only pauses when the client syncs
10:46<Quit:#openttd>But downloading the map is what lags
10:46<Nachtfalter:#openttd>TrueBrain: I looked at my watch, 11min 32 secs...
10:46<TrueBrain:#openttd>dihedral: seriously? Well, works if the max join-time is below a certain threshold. ...
10:46<dihedral:#openttd>afaik at least :P
10:47<TrueBrain:#openttd>max join-time = max time to download
10:47<TrueBrain:#openttd>ghehe
10:47<dihedral:#openttd>+ sync
10:47<TrueBrain:#openttd>no, it pauses on sync, you just said :p
10:47<dihedral:#openttd>i mean max-join-time
10:47<TrueBrain:#openttd>ah
10:47<dihedral:#openttd>does that include the sync or not
10:47<TrueBrain:#openttd>I don't know :)
10:47<TrueBrain:#openttd>haven't touched the code in ages :p
10:48<dihedral:#openttd>^^
10:48<dihedral:#openttd>dont start it again, it'll get you hooked :-D
10:48<TrueBrain:#openttd>not planning to ;)
10:48<TrueBrain:#openttd>Nachtfalter: after the download, you desync immediatly? (or you get kicked)
10:49<Nachtfalter:#openttd>the game crashes
10:49<Quit:#openttd>However, I've put up the save game again.
10:49<TrueBrain:#openttd>define 'crashes'?
10:49<dihedral:#openttd>Nachtfalter, start openttd from the command line ;-)
10:49<Nachtfalter:#openttd>No reaction on klick and so windows ask to cancel it.
10:49<Xaroth:#openttd>Quit: mind if i test connecting?
10:49<TrueBrain:#openttd>Nachtfalter: euh .. yeah ...
10:49<TrueBrain:#openttd>next time, wait :p
10:50<Nachtfalter:#openttd>I wait for 4 Minutes
10:50<dihedral:#openttd>:-D
10:50<TrueBrain:#openttd>seeing the fact you guys have been playing for so long, I guess you have a lot of trains
10:50<Nachtfalter:#openttd>first the game lags very hard and than it freezes
10:50<TrueBrain:#openttd>so fast-forwarding is almost the same as realtime
10:50<TrueBrain:#openttd>so I tihnk it needs about 10 to 20 minutes :p
10:50<TrueBrain:#openttd>(after which you get a kick-message, I guess)
10:50<Nachtfalter:#openttd>but on Friday - my last join day we also have many trains and theres no waiting time...may 10seks...
10:51<TrueBrain:#openttd>what might help, if Quit put the game in full pause, you try to join, and see what happens after the 10 minutes :p
10:51<Nachtfalter:#openttd>and the game wasnt active yesterday and today...
10:51<Nachtfalter:#openttd>so there are may one ore two trains more
10:51<TrueBrain:#openttd>Nachtfalter: my best guess is that you have bandwdith trouble .. either someone is using your connection, your ISP is capping, you, or I don't know what more is possible :p
10:51<dihedral:#openttd>hihi
10:51<dihedral:#openttd>Nachtfalter, what's your cpu load like?
10:51<dihedral:#openttd>and how many cores do you have?
10:51<Nachtfalter:#openttd>two cores á 1,7GhZ
10:51<TrueBrain:#openttd>Quit: if you start a new game, can Nachtfalter join? :p
10:52<Nachtfalter:#openttd>load: dunno
10:52<TrueBrain:#openttd>dihedral: what does it matter how many cores he has?!
10:52<dihedral:#openttd>if the load is 50% :-D
10:52<dihedral:#openttd>hihi
10:52<TrueBrain:#openttd>only Windows fucks that up :p
10:52<dihedral:#openttd>windows IS a fuck up

10:59<Quit:#openttd>returned.
10:59<Quit:#openttd><Xaroth> Quit: mind if i test connecting? <= of course not.
11:00<Quit:#openttd><TrueBrain> Quit: if you start a new game, can Nachtfalter join? :p <= if *i* local start it: yes. If the server starts a new: yes. except it is 2^11*2^11, then it's lagging again
11:01<TrueBrain:#openttd>Quit: so start a http server on the server, and let Nachtfalter download something from it; if it is slow again, it is really 100% his connection
11:01<dihedral:#openttd>you and the server are on different networks right?
11:01<dihedral:#openttd>i.e. have different providers
11:01<Quit:#openttd>dihedral: The server is in germany, I'm in Switzerland
11:01<Quit:#openttd>I bet yes
11:01<Quit:#openttd>TrueBrain: I also thought about that, but I don't have access to anything at http
11:02<Nachtfalter:#openttd>But that makes no sense, if I could join on Quit withoit problems and couldnt join on a german server...
11:02<TrueBrain:#openttd>so pause the game completely, let him join, wait 10 minutes for the map to download, and you should be fine
11:02<TrueBrain:#openttd>Nachtfalter: and how doesn't that make sense? You never had a slow conenction to one server, and not to an other?
11:02<dihedral:#openttd>Nachtfalter, of course it makes sense
11:02<TrueBrain:#openttd>you don't have traffic-jams in your country?
11:03<TrueBrain:#openttd>it happens, that one road is inaccessbile, while the other is super-fast
11:03<Nachtfalter:#openttd>but I can change the road, if its full :P
11:03<Quit:#openttd>The pathfinding is too bad .
11:03<TrueBrain:#openttd>so you did .. you changed road and exit at Quit
11:03<Xaroth:#openttd>on the intarwebs it's a bit more difficult than that :P
11:03<dihedral:#openttd>however it makes sense that people without network understanding would not understand the network issue
11:03<Nachtfalter:#openttd>need more PBS...
11:03<TrueBrain:#openttd>which then worked fine
11:04<dihedral:#openttd>my my
11:04-!-tosse [tosse@tosse.pp.se] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
11:04<planetmaker:#openttd>that's so funny. You set up a test server. Wait for 30 minutes - and suddenly you have the 2nd most players in the server list :P
11:05<dihedral:#openttd>HAHA
11:05-!-Rexxars [~rexxars@62.73.249.23] has quit [Quit: edgepro: There are two kinds of people, those who finish what they start and so on.]

11:06<Quit:#openttd>okay, I'm pretty scared right now
11:06<Quit:#openttd>when I tracert the server he redirects me to germany
11:06<Quit:#openttd>and then to paris
11:06<planetmaker:#openttd>Yeah. but it's a different channel. And it's stable 0.7.0 :)
11:06<Quit:#openttd>and then to germany again.
11:06<dihedral:#openttd>and what is that, a kind of sandbox?
11:06<TrueBrain:#openttd>Quit: scared, why?
11:06<planetmaker:#openttd>the server? Basically a connectivity test :P
11:06<TrueBrain:#openttd>don't try to understand internet routing
11:07<Quit:#openttd>Why not?
11:07<TrueBrain:#openttd>Because you will fail :)
11:07<Quit:#openttd>And why?
11:07<TrueBrain:#openttd>If I name myself Iamhere.de
11:07<TrueBrain:#openttd>does that mean I am located in germany?
11:07<dihedral:#openttd>:-P
11:07<TrueBrain:#openttd>(just to give one example why you would fail)

11:08<Quit:#openttd>I would say better
11:08<Quit:#openttd>Because I'm using PPPoA for years :P
11:08<TrueBrain:#openttd>so you want shorter distance over faster connecitivty?
11:08<TrueBrain:#openttd>ah, yes yes, you are one of them

11:09<Quit:#openttd>Of course
11:09<Quit:#openttd>Is there something better?
11:09<TrueBrain:#openttd>so I can only repeat myself to say: you will fail :)
11:09<Quit:#openttd>No, serious, I would take the fibre
11:09<dihedral:#openttd>no there is nothing better, just dont try to understand why other people are faster
11:09<Quit:#openttd>Except in Switzerland
11:09<Quit:#openttd>I wouldn't take them here. Even my provider doesn't know what they did.

11:10<Quit:#openttd>It's more 'bluefail'
11:10<Quit:#openttd>Once I called them why my Internet isn't working
11:10<Quit:#openttd>the answer was too funny
11:10<Quit:#openttd>It was winter and, well, they said the pipes were frozen.
11:10<dihedral:#openttd>they probably told you the truth and you didnt get it :-P
11:11<Quit:#openttd>*frozen* copper cables?
11:11<dihedral:#openttd>yep
11:11<Quit:#openttd>I don't want to know what they use when it's summer

11:11<Quit:#openttd>yes, the bad thing was, I think she was serious

11:12<Quit:#openttd>Call#2 and 3: "Yes, of course, you can use full speed! WANNA BUY NAO???"
11:12<Quit:#openttd>I'm scared of calling them again
11:12<dihedral:#openttd>bluewin sucks
11:12<TrueBrain:#openttd>so I can only suggest to not do that ;)
11:13<Quit:#openttd>I mean
11:13<Quit:#openttd>They don't even give me my 5000 kbit/s

11:16<Quit:#openttd>Maybe it's another bluewin.
11:16<dihedral:#openttd>...
11:16<dihedral:#openttd>yep sure
11:16<dihedral:#openttd>of course
11:17<Quit:#openttd>I remember there was a bluewin in not-switzerland
11:17<Quit:#openttd>the swiss bluewin is part of "swisscom" now, so it's not bluewin anymore :P
11:17<dihedral:#openttd>...
11:18<Quit:#openttd>okay
11:18<dihedral:#openttd>does not mean you have different peering, or different support staff
11:18<Quit:#openttd>My points are stupid and silly and everything.
11:18<dihedral:#openttd>a direct swisscom connection would probably be better
11:18<dihedral:#openttd>however, they like phion
11:18<dihedral:#openttd>and phion sucks
11:18<dihedral:#openttd>they use their own network notation :-P
11:18<dihedral:#openttd>a real /8 is a phion /24 :-D
11:18<dihedral:#openttd>they just reverse it :-P
11:19<dihedral:#openttd>stupid idiots
11:19<Quit:#openttd>.. okay.

11:21<TrueBrain:#openttd>dihedral: 'a real /8'? There is no such thing :)
11:21<dihedral:#openttd>...
11:21<dihedral:#openttd>what you and i understand under a /24 network

18:27<@Bjarni:#openttd>15891 just linked
18:28<@Bjarni:#openttd>* Rubidium fears OSX doesn't like __LP64__ being defined for non 64 bit builds or so <--- that could be an issue. We should still support 32 bit computers
18:29<@Rubidium:#openttd>Bjarni: *but* ... if __LP64__ means 64 bits, if !__LP64__ means not 64 bits
18:29<@Bjarni:#openttd>I know
18:29<@Rubidium:#openttd>i.e. #define __LP64__ 0 means not 64 bits
18:31<@Rubidium:#openttd>must say that I've built only 64 binaries with 10.5
18:31<@Bjarni:#openttd>15892 just failed
18:33<@Rubidium:#openttd>oh... lovely
18:33<@Rubidium:#openttd>select 'depends' on ifdef __LP64__

18:34<@Bjarni:#openttd>yeah
18:34<@Bjarni:#openttd>you should have presumed that
18:34<@Rubidium:#openttd>stoopid morons!
18:34<@Bjarni:#openttd>I mean it's perfectly natural, right :P
18:35<@Rubidium:#openttd>have fun removing the #define __LP64__ 0 and fixing *all* the compile warnings everywhere
18:36<@Bjarni:#openttd>why was it added in the first place?
18:36<@Rubidium:#openttd>i.e. replace if __LP64__ with if defined(__LP64__) && __LP64__
18:36<@Rubidium:#openttd>and if !__LP64__ with if !defined(__LP64__) || !__LP64__
18:36<@Rubidium:#openttd>Bjarni: because it would simplify a lot of code

18:59<Xaroth:#openttd>finally getting some help from people who want to test, so getting some bugs out (and about time as well )
19:04<Sacro:#openttd>hmm, no source
19:04<Sacro:#openttd>just one .cs file with the GPLv2 in it :\
19:04<Sacro:#openttd>however it's commented out so does that mean it doesn't apply?
19:04<@petern:#openttd>.cs isn't source?
19:05<Sacro:#openttd>petern: no code
19:05<Xaroth:#openttd>.cs is CSharp
19:05<Sacro:#openttd>just /* GPLV2 TEXT */
19:05<Xaroth:#openttd>Sacro: source is on sf.net
19:06<Sacro:#openttd>Xaroth: not using google code or somesuch?
19:06<@Rubidium:#openttd>google's rules suck
19:06<@Rubidium:#openttd>(okay, sf
19:06<Sacro:#openttd>Rubidium: so does your mum
19:06<@Rubidium:#openttd>(okay, sf's service sucks too)
19:07<Xaroth:#openttd>Rubidium: you offering better then? :P
19:07<Sacro:#openttd>sf has sucked for years
19:07<Xaroth:#openttd>I can leave my server to commit changes i make, so it's not a real issue that it's slow anyhow
19:07<@Rubidium:#openttd>Sacro: unlikely that she sucks...
19:08<@Rubidium:#openttd>(at least now)
19:08<Xaroth:#openttd>Sacro: http://sourceforge.net/projects/autottd/
19:08<Xaroth:#openttd>code's still a mess, then again, i've been too busy re-writing parts of it to not care much for keeping things pretty
