06:35<Wakou>Good day folks, is the 32bpp 'Extra-Zoom' version still going or is it abandoned?
06:38<Zuu>1.2 have support for extra zoom graphics built in. However using a different way of providing new graphics than the 'Extra-Zoom' patch
06:39-!-kais58 [~kais58@cpc2-cwma8-2-0-cust293.7-3.cable.virginmedia.com] has joined #openttd
06:40<Zuu>Eg. if you have lots of graphics in the old format, you have to use the 'Extra-Zoom' patch, but if you want to use graphics packed in the new way (in NewGRFs), you can use 1.2.1 or a recent nightly.
06:41<Wakou>Zuu:

06:42<Wakou>Ohh! TY Ty! I have just competely re-installed everything, so that is good!
06:42<Wakou>How do I? The wiki says 'this is out of date' after 1.1.xxx
06:43<Wakou>So I have openSuse Linux, with 1.2.1
06:44<Zuu>Grab a NewGRF with 32bit graphics from online content download and it usually just works.
06:45<Zuu>Mind that there is currently not a lot of 32bit graphics packed as NewGRFs.
06:45<Wakou>Zuu: TY I think I already have it, just need the right graphics as you say..
06:46<Zuu>If you filter the online content dialog with "32" you'll find a NewGRF with 32 bit trains.

06:51<@Alberth>OpenGFX+trains nightly has 32bits graphics

06:59<Wakou>Hmmm, it comes down to just one, 8/32bpp trains 2cc, but I don't get any 32bpp graphics at all...
07:00<Wakou>Do i still need to adjust the 'blitter' in the .cfg?
07:00-!-kais58 [~kais58@cpc2-cwma8-2-0-cust293.7-3.cable.virginmedia.com] has joined #openttd
07:01<frosch123>no, you just have to add the grf in the newgrf setting ofc
07:04<frosch123>the 8bpp/32bpp thingie has a very limited selection of graphics, i think ogfx+trains has more
07:04<Wakou>Hmm still no joy here :(
07:04<frosch123>but i think it is not yet on bananas in a 32bpp version
07:04<@Alberth>Wakou: we need loads of 3d models for the new graphics
07:06<frosch123>http://devs.openttd.org/~frosch/32bppset.png <- it should look like that
07:06<@Alberth>it takes time to make them all
07:08<Wakou>frosch123: TY TY!, That is what I was after.. I am getting no 32bpp at all, not trees or any buildings etc?
07:09<frosch123>currently you only get trains and the big explosion
07:09<@Alberth>there are no NewGRFs with those graphics yet
07:09<@Alberth>there are no models of them, even :)
07:09<frosch123>32bpp progress has always been slow :)
07:10<Wakou>Ah!, So 1.2 needs to be completely redone?.... Should I regress to an earlier version?
07:11<frosch123>your decision :) i would prefer other features over 32bpp any day
07:12<Wakou>:)
07:12<Wakou>But I still can't even get to where you are in your scrnshot..
07:13<Wakou>I don't get those trains or veh's 'Dash' 'Floss' et
07:13<Wakou>etc

07:16<frosch123>mm dmu is mid 1950s
07:16<frosch123>dash is mid 80s
07:17<Anson>i read the message "server is restarting, please wait" ... how long shall i wait ? ... is that a bug ?
07:18-!-FLHerne [~francis_h@dsl-217-155-24-22.zen.co.uk] has joined #openttd
07:18<frosch123>depends on what kind of map the server tries to generate
07:19<frosch123>generating a 2kx2k map with ecs vectors can take 15 minutes or so :p
07:19<frosch123>more sane maps should generate in a few seconds though
07:20<frosch123>anyway, if the connection dies you will end up in the main screen, and then have to rejoin
07:20<Anson>i am not sure, but i think that on a GRF mismatch, the main screen stays with the "server restart, please wait" message for a very long time ...
07:20<frosch123>hmm, restart with grf changes... no idea, might be that noone ever tested that :)
07:22<Anson>and where do i get the missing grf files ?
07:23<frosch123>if you cannot get them via online content, you have to google
07:24<Anson>servers
07:25<@Terkhen>if you can't find them in the online content, ask the server admin
07:26<Anson>i rarely (last time a year ago) use IRC ... have to look everything up which takes a while
07:44<Wakou>frosch123: ty I got the 32bpp going in yr 2000...
07:45<Wakou>Is much work being done? should I use nightlies?
07:45<Wakou>Or learn how to do them myself :) ?
07:46<frosch123>i am not following that topic closely
07:47<frosch123>not sure how many trains there are in ogfx+trains
07:47<frosch123>the forums have some desert landscape stuff
07:47<frosch123>but i think the grf is not yet released
07:47<frosch123>i think there are only like 2 guys working on it :)
07:51<@Terkhen>to my knowledge there is not much going on yet

13:01<Eddi|zuHause>how should we know?
13:10-!-KouDy [~KouDy@115.133.5.224] has joined #openttd
13:10<@Alberth>Eddi|zuHause: it is not that we should know, it is chance versus time versus effort in obtaining the answer.
13:12<@Alberth>ie I can post at the place that knows, but that costs effort to find versus I post here without much effort, which might also give an answer, but with much less effort
13:12<@Alberth>NGC3982: trouble is, sometimes you gamble wrong :p
13:14<NGC3982>i seem to have created a somewhat faux pas.
13:15<NGC3982>Alberth: gamble?

13:16<NGC3982>yes, of course, ive been trying to find it troughout the day

13:17<@Alberth>there are 2 threads about that george monitors, you can search/post there, and you should get a reply
13:18<@Alberth>well, is deciding the odds not a form of gambling?
13:18<NGC3982>i guess.
13:18<NGC3982>i just didnt see the reference, but now i do. :)
13:18<Eddi|zuHause>DON'T TELL ME MY ODDS!</Han>
13:21<@Alberth>hmm, forum search that omits three-letter words is kind of useless in finding ECS :)
13:22<@Alberth>http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=34758 seems to be the thread
13:22<NGC3982>i was there, but i didnt find anything relevant. althought, i think i need to read it again.
13:23<@Alberth>http://www.tt-wiki.net/wiki/ECS
13:23<@Alberth>post at the forum otherwise in that thread
13:24<NGC3982>ah, there we are
13:24<NGC3982>"ABANDONED - Merged into Basic vector II"
13:24<NGC3982>so, basic vector beta 5 is not to be used.
13:25<NGC3982>the thing is, it doesnt reject using both in a game, thus i was be-fuddled.

15:33<Wakou>Hi guys, I am non-expert. I dl'ed this : 32bit-gfx-nightly-megapack-2011-04-16.tar, and dropped it in: ~/.openttd/content_download/newgrf/ but it does not show up in new grf's when i start openttd. Should I have put it elsewhere? Or should I un-tar it?

15:35<@planetmaker>moin also :-)
15:35<Wakou>planetmaker: !! I thought 'cos it was nightly and recent.... so not compat with 1.2.x?
15:35<@planetmaker>recent? A year old?

15:36<@planetmaker>Wakou: you can play with 32bpp trains, if you download the nightly build of ogfx+trains newgrf
15:37<Wakou>& I just drop them in the same place?
15:37<@planetmaker>yep
15:37<@planetmaker>though... don't place manually any stuff in .../content_download/...
15:38<@planetmaker>use directly ~/.openttd/newgrf

16:03<Wakou>planetmaker: Ty for that, and nice work, I opened temperate, 2001, so I have 5 loco's and all rolling stock in 32bpp?
16:04<Zuu>Didn't think GS was that hot. But apparently my new version of Split have been downloaded significantly more of the game script than the scenario.
16:05<@planetmaker>I'm not 100% sure. But I think most are 32bpp
16:05<@planetmaker>Wakou: they become especially tasty with 4x zoom-in :-)
16:05<Wakou>:)
16:06<@planetmaker>actually I think *all* are 32bpp. But... I didn't do a full check on that the last few weeks
16:06<@planetmaker>Zuu: people grab everything :-) But ... that GS is worth the grab :-)
16:07<Zuu>both the scenario and the GS are pretty much useless if grabed without the other.
16:07<Zuu>Normal users will not even see the GS in the list of installed GSs :-)
16:08<Zuu>And well, the scenario can be played without the GS, but then there are is no goal.
16:09<Zuu>and you got some weird signs $L=... at some places :-)
16:10<@planetmaker>well. I tested it with the scenario ;-)
16:10<Wakou>Curious, I lined up al the loco's at 1 square aprt signals. The 'Floss 47', loco only has a 'footprint' of more than 1 square, is this deliberate?
16:11<Wakou>oops my bad, it just looks like it 'cos the loco is so tiny..
16:11<Zuu>yep, but if you would try to test version 2 of the script with version 1 of the scenario file, the script will make a sucide. But if it wouldn't do that, you would get something 1.5-ish :-)
16:13<Zuu>Actually, also to force it to use version 2 of the script with version 1 of the scenario will at least require you to erase version 1 of the script so it can't be fonud by OpenTTD.
16:13<@planetmaker>hm, that's very difficult
16:13<@planetmaker>do scripts know a min_compatible_version?
16:13<@planetmaker>like to which versions of itself they're backward compatible?
16:13<Zuu>It have something like that
16:14<Zuu>It's called MinVersionToLoad
16:15<Zuu>My GS have it set to the same version as itself. (except for when I'm upgrading the scenario to next script version)
16:16<Zuu>I should add that only scenario GS use this strict idea. My other GS:s and AI:s have backward compatibility often back to version 1.
