00:01<kminor>yeah, nodoubt
00:01<kminor>Even if it's IRC logs, it'd suffice
00:01<ArcAiN6>another great one is when you find some documention labeled for ETCH and three lines in they start sputtering ubuntu stuffs

00:02<ArcAiN6>i used to like suse... but that was before novell got thier grubble little pud-thumpers on it
00:03<kminor>hahaha yeah, or once again mainly from non-official repo, a package that has been converted without the maintainter fixxing the scripts from the original distro be it suse/fedora or whatever...
00:04<ArcAiN6>toasted packages seem to be more common than i remeber them a few years back

04:43<jonathanabrahams>the 1024 file descriptors... u mensioned earlier could be the cause, since i did the export which was realllly huge, tons of small files

04:49<jonathanabrahams>is not svn could gzip be a cause
04:49<jonathanabrahams>not too sure of the FD thing and when those are created
04:50<jonathanabrahams>it take it that 1024 processes are trying to access files...
04:50<weasel>1024 is the per-process limit by default. your system should have a much higher system-wide limit
04:50<weasel>and fds are cheap
04:51<weasel>when you have your system back, run cat /proc/sys/fs/file-nr
04:51<weasel>it'll show you how many FDs are in use, and how many your system can have total
04:51<weasel>if the total number is too small, just echo a larger one into file-max
04:51<weasel>lsof will show you which process has which FDs open
04:52<jonathanabrahams>great stuff will investigate that route
