00:14<Wampus>tony: what are you trying to play?
00:14<DJBloodSkin>i have an interesting situation
00:15<Wampus>shoot mate
00:16<DJBloodSkin>i tried to get xfce to load through a vnc connection. i managed to get the vnc server going with no probs (other than not being able to find a certain config) and managed to load the xfce theme i seleted, but there is no menu bar, no right click menu, nothing
00:17<DJBloodSkin>is it ok if i post a link to a guide that i followed
00:17<Wampus>no menu or context only through vnc or locally too?
00:17<DJBloodSkin>only through vnc
00:18<DJBloodSkin>that was my reaction as well

03:13<dpkg>i guess debian policy is a set of rules giving policy requirements for the Debian GNU/Linux distribution. (or install debian-policy).
03:13<makiavelli>strange. I feel ok - to help to people , is it windows, linux or BSD.
03:14<weasel>you don't get hundreds of folks ignorant about the rules and not even willing to follow them when told in a week.

04:43<DJBloodSkin>i like to keep it centralized
04:43<dpkg>Debian follows the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard. The filesystem is categorized by purpose, not application. This allows, for example, the easy and efficient deployment of a read-only /usr area across a number of thin clients. See or install the 'debian-policy' package (/usr/share/doc/debian-policy/fhs/*)
04:43<DJBloodSkin>thats just more complications

04:44<padski>DJBloodSkin, well if you want to build and in stall it outside the package system I recommend you use /usr/local/ or /opt since that is what they are there for.
04:44<DJBloodSkin>i want them to be able to compile as instructed by eggdrops manual
04:44<DJBloodSkin>tcl doesnt work so i cant do that
04:45<padski>DJBloodSkin, you could look at building from the source package to help you figure out where your build is going wrong. in particular apt-get build-dep eggdrop may help you.
04:45<DJBloodSkin>tried that, yet another error
04:45<padski>DJBloodSkin, this is on lenny ?
04:45<DJBloodSkin>E: You must put some 'source' URIs in your sources.list
04:45<DJBloodSkin>yes but i tried on etch first
04:45<DJBloodSkin>and got the same results
04:46<dpkg>The list of repositories for installing packages is /etc/apt/sources.list and has lines like "deb http://ftp.<cc> etch main" and "deb etch/updates main" where <cc> is your country code. Be sure to run "aptitude update" after editing sources.list. Also see <mirrors> <apt-spy> <apt-setup> <etch security> <testing security> "man sources.list" and /usr/share/doc/apt/examples/sources.list
04:46<DJBloodSkin>your starting to get on my nerves. im going afk
04:46<padski>DJBloodSkin, you need to do exactly what the error message says, put a source uri in your sources.list
04:47<DJBloodSkin>and what you just showed me says nothing about a uri
04:47-!-kancerman [] has joined #debian

04:49<kjetil_>And if you can't sort out the tcl-problem. Should you be running a shellserver ?
04:50<DJBloodSkin>why not? its not like i dont know my clients personally

21:46<dpkg>Ubuntu is based on Debian, but it is not Debian, and it is unlikely to live up to Debian's standards (see <Debian policy>). Only Debian is supported on #debian. Use #ubuntu ( instead. Even if the channel happens to be less helpful, support for distributions other than Debian is offtopic on #debian. See also <based on debian>.
21:46<dondelelcaro>tj_: ?
21:47<tj_>i hate to ask you to do this for me for the 2nd time.... but would you mind too terribly much to pastbin your xorg.conf file for synaptics again.... clean install
