01:21<oipunx>kingsley: will that work for installing nvidia driver?
01:21<oipunx>it was complainging about "no precompiled kernel"
01:24<kingsley>oipunx: Unfortunately, when I checked a few weeks ago, I didn't see any comprehensive instructions on the web for installing nvidia's driver.
01:26<hecate>oipunx u just need linux-header not the entire sources
01:26<oipunx>well it says it wants to download the kernel-source when u run the installer
01:27<kingsley>oipunx: All I can suggest is scouring Google's indices for howto install nvidia's drivers on debian, and wehen you receive an error message, search google's indices for that too.

01:42<stevecotton>it you're installing from Nvidia's website, the beta 177.70 seems to be the only one worth having :( 173.14.12 has major framerate problems in UT2004.
01:43<stevecotton>at least, that's my experience
01:44<stevecotton>!nvidia one liner
01:44<dpkg>methinks nvidia one-liner is apt-get install nvidia-kernel-2.6-`uname -r | sed 's,.*-,,g'` nvidia-settings nvidia-glx && dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg (if you're on amd64, also install nvidia-glx-ia32). Using sarge? Ask me about <nvidia_sarge>. Homegrown or kernel from testing/sid: <nvidia_post_etch>. If you're using a Geforce2 or older: <nvidia_legacy>.

02:05<eV>or is it never going to be released as stable?
02:06<eV>So whats the next stable release goin to be ?
02:06<Wyzard>eV: sid is perpetually unstable
02:06<Wyzard>eV: The next stable release will be lenny, which is currently in freeze to prepare for release
02:07<Wyzard>The freeze process takes months, though
02:07<eV>i'm on lenny now, :)
02:07<eV>i though it was stable, its been running fine
02:07<Wyzard>Even unstable isn't actually very unstable

23:04<Resemp>never mind i found what i was looking for, wasnt cut or awk was looking for the head command to cut characters off of file names

23:04<qq->zoe: try lighttpd , to test your page
23:05<zoe>i'm unfamiliar with lighttpd, is it a php / html syntax check ?
23:05<zoe>cuz i can reasonably assure those are OK
23:06<qq->just install it , and put your page in /var/www/
23:06<zoe>ok, for "your page" is some test html hello world ok to use
23:07<qq->maybe any .html file

23:08<Lenhix>zoe: remember to reload apache after modifying httpd.conf
23:08<Lenhix>init.d/apache reload should suffice
23:08<jlj>Ok, so I started FF from a fresh user account and it seems to run properly. Guess my config just has gotten miffed some way.
23:08<zoe>OK, and we seem to have DocumentRoot in httpd set to a different place,
23:08<Lenhix>lighttpd is another web server, zoe
23:08<zoe>but use DocumentRoot, for var/www, right?

23:13<Lenhix>I guess it is
23:13<Lenhix>Let me check Apache's web
23:14<Lenhix>:O I didn't know Facebook was a mirror for Apache HTTPd
23:14<Lenhix>And yes, debug is the most verbose level
23:15<zoe>only get one message with it, a notice about a mutex accepted
23:16<zoe>am still working on installing lighttpd, everything I can see in apache looks ok :\
23:16<zoe>(and html is so simple it can't have an error)

23:44<zoe>ok, but ./elinks from correct directory works
23:44<zoe>result is connection refused though
23:44<zoe>nto sure what to make of that, may have installed / configured lighttpd wrong ?

23:47<zoe>whether apache OR lighttpd is running
23:47<zoe>yeah that's all
23:47<Lenhix>So, port 80 isn't open... it seemes
23:47<Lenhix>Stop both apache and lighttpd
23:48<zoe>both stopped
23:48<Lenhix>Check with sudo netstat -ntlp that port 80 isn't open
23:48<Lenhix>Check with htop (or equivalent, maybe ps ax | grep apache or grep httpd) that the apache and lighttpd processes are actually down
23:49<Lenhix>If not, send SIGTERM.. in case they refuse to close, SIGKILL (which I don't like, althoug is sometimes necessary)
23:49<zoe>response ito netstat -ntlp 80 is unknown or uninstrumented protocal
23:49<zoe>ps i am familar with
23:49<zoe>doesn't say apache at all, even when I believe it is running
23:50<zoe>there is this entry in ps,
23:50<zoe>/bin/sh /usr/local/bin/safe_mysqld
23:51<zoe>we were runnign mysql, could it be a problem (apache shoudl be stopped)
23:52<zoe>looks OK though, httpd shows up in ps list when i expect it
