00:02<prasanna> "
00:02<dwon>prasanna: try grep -a
00:02-!-scretch_ [~scretch@] has joined #debian
00:03<prasanna>dwon : when i used that -a it is not giving correct result
00:04<dwon>prasanna: What program did you use to create this file?
00:05<amphi>are they null-terminated strings?
00:05<prasanna>dwon : i didnt create this i copied my contacts into the file from mobile

00:10<dwon>prasanna: ok, so using wammu. that part is important.
00:10<prasanna>dwon : ok
00:12-!-vicio [] has joined #debian
00:13<dwon>I'm looking at the gammu man page. The grammar is awful. "All things backup’ed by backup can be restored (when made backup to Gammu text file)."
00:13<dwon>From what I understand, backups can be saved in a text format or a binary format. I'm guessing this file is in the binary format.
00:14<dwon>Unfortunately I can't do much more than that, because I don't have a mobile phone that I can connect to wammu/gammu.

00:17<prasanna>dwon : ok thank you
00:17<dwon>no problem. good luck. :)

00:57<clintdub>if one has lenny-testing would one have to reinstall for lenny-stable or just update
00:58<rutski>does it even make any use of swap if I don't use more ram then I have to begin with?
00:59<stew>clintdub: if your sources.list refers to "lenny" then you will be running stable when lenny is released. if it instead refers to 'testing' then you will be running the new testing (squeeze) after lenny releases
01:00<dr1v3r>whats the command to check the kernel version installed please guys?

01:25<dr1v3r>:D what should i be looking to read up on?
01:25<jm_>you can use iptables or tools like rinetd/xinetd

01:28<dr1v3r>also. if i want to assign more IP's to more interfaces does it have to be a different range to what my current internal IP is or can it be the same? for example. if mine is currently can the rest be the same range or will it need to be something lik e192.168.0.1 ??
01:29<jm_>that depends on what your goal is - in general there is no limitation about which subnet to use
01:30<dr1v3r>i want a few interfaces with different IP's so that i can run various things thats all
01:30-!-libereco [~libereco@] has left #debian [Saliendo]
01:31<blarson>dr1v3r: You can assign multiple IPs to the same interface.
01:32<dr1v3r>see i have just tried the ......edit the /etc/network/interfaces file and put "auto eth0" and "iface eth0 inet dhcp" in it. Then do "ifup -a" or reboot..... info that dpkg mentions but it killed my interface and i had to remove the auto eth0 option to get it working again :(
01:33<dr1v3r>i know i can use the virtual interface option which is what i plan to do, so i was just making sure it all was possible before i waste anymore of my time on it all lol

22:04<avu>Hell_Kaiser, you'll have much more fun and be more productive using debian if you read at least a little bit of the excellent documentation up front
22:06<kop>Hell_Kaiser : The basic idea is this: You get all your programs from debian, and all your drivers, and everything just works, forever. Even after upgrades. If you want to just poke it with a stick, you run the synaptic GUI interface for finding and installing, but many people find that limiting.
22:06<kop>Hell_Kaiser : (I couldn't even tell you where to find synaptic in the gui menus. It's in there somewhere.)
22:07<Hell_Kaiser>/usr/share/desktop if memory serves
22:07<avu>it doesn't :)
