02:11<simonrvn>you purged right?
02:11<simonrvn>anol: http://localhost:631/

02:12<anol>simonrvn, i want to make it in that client can use same printer
02:13<simonrvn>so set it up so it listens to some sharable protocol like ipp
02:14<Mahalo>I did an autoclean and it ripped out php, java, apache2, bind, etc...
02:14<Mahalo>it wasa nighmare
02:15<Mahalo>Like 200 packaged....
02:15<jm_>edit cupsd.conf, make it listen on LAN IP, configure clients to connect to it in cups.conf
02:15<jm_>make that in client.conf
02:16<anol>jm_ simonrvn ,all mentioned above steps can be done using localhost:631?
02:17<jm_>anol: no
02:17<jm_>localhost:631 to add printer first, then the above

02:19<anol>jm_ simonrvn which device should i use ..jetdirect,LPT #1,http,ipp windows printer via samba?
02:19<anol>ipp is ok..?
02:19<jm_>anol: that would largely depend on how your printer is connected/what it's capable of
02:20<anol>after selecting ipp it is asking URI..
02:20<anol>my printer is connected by paraller port..
02:21<jm_>well then use lpt obviously

02:23<anol>or anything has to be done at server side?

02:30<chris>now if i just go to apps menu click the firefox icon it wont come up itll show the starting firefox on the bar then itll go away and thats it.... if i go to terminal
02:30<anol>Mahalo, sorry...i mean vi will create new file

08:13<Mahalo>Yeah, I'm with you on that... Unfortunately, I'm not a pro at iptables...

13:50<Hydroxide>davius: I have no idea what "burn" is, but you can copy the DVD to disk in Debian by typing dd if=/dev/dvd of=copy.iso
13:51<llutz>read "burn" manual, whatever burn is
13:51<Hydroxide>davius: that assumes /dev/dvd is your dvd drive - substitute accordingly if not. you will probably also have to do this as root, or else some user with permissions to read from your DVD drive (/dev/dvd in this example)
13:51<llutz>cat /dev/dvd >foo.iso
13:51<Hydroxide>davius: the command I gave will put the copy in copy.iso

15:38<Rioting_Pacifist>well ive not setup compiz with debian but back wehn i ran ubuntu with an nvidia card, 1st you installed the binary blobs, then you fudge your xorg.conf and run glxgears make sure you get a good fps, then you try running compiz form command line and it should work
15:39<ptr>See? Linux is *totally* ready for the mainstream desktop :P

18:56<djc>If you want to bridge a virtualbox nic to a linux host nic, you can do it two ways. 1. USing Virtualbox OSE, use the linux external bridging (tun/tap and all that). 2. Using the Sun non-open edition, directly from within its UI, without needing to mess with anything else
18:56<djc>'should' is subjective

19:31<djc>most of the base system/binaries should live on the CD, as these machines only have USB 1.1, so if the bulk of the system was on there it would be a bit painful in the speed department

23:41<dpkg>Let's see... it's because RMS doesn't want you to update to testing.
23:41<Lance4>whats rms?
23:41<dpkg>rumour has it, rms is a hacker name of Richard Stallman, founder of Free Software Foundation (fsf), (co)author of the GNU General Public licence(s), and GNU philosophy in general.
