05:24<chienMangerChat>I am currently working on debian package, my package is depending on java6 and installing it automatically when java is not yet installed. I also have a init script launching the program at the end of the installation.

22:20<ranix>Burrito? Enchilada
22:20<gravity>That's a crash. If you haven't crashed linux, you're not trying very hard.
22:20<ranix>I would define a crash as "something fails and the operating system fucking reboots because it was coded by monkeys
22:21<obrerox>where your from ranix?
22:21<gravity>ranix: That's nonsense.
22:21<ranix>obrerox: USA
22:21<gravity>ranix: If you wedge the machine so hard it *can't* reboot, what's that then?
22:21<ranix>gravity: anything else is a specific thing failing
22:21<obrerox>but speack spanish?
22:21<ranix>shouldn't just call it a "crash"

22:28<gravity>ranix: Have you ever seen a crash on any system then?
22:28<Supaplex>I don't believe the system is usefull if the kernel panics (and not just a module)
22:28<ranix>"kernel panic" is a more concrete term though
22:28<ranix>more specific
22:29<ranix>gravity: I have seen windows crash
22:29<gravity>ranix: What did that entail exactly?
22:29<ranix>meaning, I don't know exactly why it did what it did and it gives me no usable input
22:29<gravity>ranix: Like I said. If you've never seen linux do that, then you've not tried very hard.
22:29<ranix>it's not something I can even begin to troubleshoot, the tools aren't there
22:30<gravity>Also, just because *you* can't debug it doesn't mean it's not a crash.
22:30<ranix>I'm just saying the word "crash" is vague and I have yet to experience a vague failure in Linux
22:31<ranix>so when I hear "oh it crashed" I raise an eyebrow
22:31<gravity>So basically, the term crash in your vocabulary only applies to your own ignorance of the problem at hand rather than the actual phenomenon?
22:32<ranix>gravity: you want to argue that "crash" is not more vague than "kernel panic"
22:32<ranix>or "X is frozen"
22:32<gravity>ranix: No, but X freezing is a type of crash.
22:32<ranix>gravity: maybe X crashed
22:32<gravity>ranix: I've also had X fail completely back to terminal. That's a crash.
22:32<ranix>I would call a segfault a crash
22:33<ranix>I would call a stack overflow a crash
22:33<Supaplex>I've had heavy disk usage on a usb drive lock up one of my servers occasionally
22:33<ranix>that must have been confusing
22:33<gravity>Ok, that's more fair
22:33<Supaplex>external 1tb. meant for backup, but I'll have to figure some way to use esata if possible.
22:33<Supaplex>it's somewhat reproducable, but I have little idea how to publish a usable bug report for it.

22:36<ranix>to my knowledge, the text/html of the message body is encoded inline with the attachment
22:36<ranix>I don't think you can separate the two without decoding
22:37<kop>ranix : I don't care if it decodes. I just want it to take an email on stdin and produce the same email without non-text parts on stdout.
22:37<Supaplex>you'd have to parse the html part, and then determine if it's better than the ordinary text portion.
22:37<ranix>kop: I am certain that is possible
22:38<kop>Supaplex : In my case, the text part is always better. I don't really care if the filter keeps anything that encodes as text. Keeping the html would be ok. But I want all sorts of non-text mime types gone.
22:38-!-phrosty [] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
22:40<ranix>I believe the email must have the text (or html if no text, though I think that's noncompliant) as the first segment
22:40<kop>ranix : Sure, but do I have to program something or does it already exist. I find there to be a derth of command line mime manipulation interfaces. mpack is ancient, and only maintained by debian, and seems to be the best of the lot. All the other tools assume you want some sort of interactive interface, which I never do.
22:40<ranix>so you could discard everything after and including the third occurrence of "content-type"
22:41<ranix>you could actually do it with a quickie shell script
22:41<kop>ranix: As long as I'm writing something I may as well import a mime parser and do it right.
