00:22<Supaplex>Overfiend: your TTL is very high for that host.
00:23<Overfiend>yeah, I wondered about that
00:23<Supaplex>dpkg: convert 172800 seconds to days
00:23<Overfiend>it seemed like the right thing to do BITD when I first set up the domain
00:23<dpkg>172800 seconds is approximately 2 days
00:23<Overfiend>I did not revisit
00:23<Overfiend>you don't need dpkg for that

00:23<Supaplex>dpkg: 86400*2

03:24<Supaplex>!held back
03:24<dpkg>somebody said kept back was when packages have not been upgraded even though newer versions are available. This happens if dependencies cannot be resolved, packages are on hold or you used "upgrade" not "dist-upgrade" and new packages need to be installed. To investigate, "apt-get -s install <kept-package>". Also see Ask me about <dist-upgrade>.
03:25<Supaplex>it took me a minute to recall what I think you see. "holted" is not a package status.

03:43<cmyers>hey all - I am running unstable on my desktop, and since recently upgrading, I am having some problems with cups. I have a network printer using a socket://x.x.x.x:9100 device URI. I can ping the printer, access it's embedded web server, etc. but trying to print anything via cups fails. Cups receives the jobs, says it is printing, but the printer never receives it. Any suggestions for my next debugging step?

08:50<ajh2000>I forgot so I went back to the "partition" part to have a look at the names of my hard disks
08:51<ajh2000>then when I figured that out, I went back to "install grub"

08:53<dpkg>grub is, like, the Grand Unified Bootloader at . To reinstall, ask about <fixmbr> or <grub.errors>.

16:23<jthomas>annoia is it happening at the same place on the disk? You could try using dd 'backwards' meaning it reads from the end of the disk first. It could also be hitting some sort of physical problem where the arm cannot move any further inside the drive; if you freeze the disk (in a freezer or icebox or jar of frozen rice, seriously) then the metal may shrink enough to get past that physical issue
16:23<jthomas>or, may not.

17:25<dpkg>java is probably a cross-platform C++-like OO language. Sun partially released its Java implementation under the GPL on 2006-11-13. There are other implementations packaged for Debian, Sun's JRE/JDK is in <non-free> (for i386, amd64 only). Ask me about <install java>. See also <java alternatives>.

17:25<dpkg>For the java plugin install either the icedtea-gcjwebplugin (free) plugin or the sun-java6-plugin (<non-free>). For other java programs (lenny onwards), you can install the default-jre package to get install a java runtime, or "apt-cache search java-virtual-machine" to see other implementations. The best options are probably openjdk-6-jre or sun-java-6-jre. Also ask me about <install java etch>.

19:50<PiklesOnFire>lol, yeah, and it's reporting 5.5 gigs ;p
19:51<PiklesOnFire>sorry, initially it reports 99.9% usage, if i hit scan filesystem, it comes back as 5.5
19:51<PiklesOnFire>anyone have some kinda clue?
19:51<Nemoder>maybe it's running out of swap when it tries to scan
19:52<Nemoder>or maybe the FS is corrupt
19:52<PiklesOnFire>Nemoder, i have a 5.5g swap ;p
19:52<Nemoder>can try as root: du -ch /
19:52<PiklesOnFire>i'm guessing it's the corrupt fs idea, that's why i backed up my sys, i'm going to use knoppix to rebuild the fs under LVM and then replace all the files, and see if that corrects it. if it doesn't, i know it's something else
19:55<PiklesOnFire>13G /
19:55<PiklesOnFire>13G total
19:55<Nemoder>likely an FS problem
19:55<Nemoder>can try to fsck it or just rebuild as you said
19:56<PiklesOnFire>well, knoppix dvd just finished dling, so i'm going to rebuild the xfs partition and extract my files, i'll report back later. thanks for the help though Nemoder
