01:18<Yonut27>Hi, I am running Debian Linux (Lenny), kernel 2.6.26-2-686, and everything is great except for one little problem. Once and a while when I am typing for long periods (5 mins without a break), and I go t use the mouse, strange things happen. First, any mouse movement does something to the current screen,, (ie. Open apps,, display rightclick menu, move task bar). And the only fix to this is a complete reboot. Is this a known problem with a fix?!?
01:19<Yonut27>and when I mean any movement, just the slightest movement without a click will d
01:19<Yonut27>o this
01:21<jm_>no-one mentioned something similar here while I was present
01:22<Yonut27>it is really weird, cause the keyboard works like normal, but once the mouse starts acting up, you just can't use it without the possibility that it will open certain things and make changes to them. And it stops when you stop moving the mouse. ANd start the moment you touch it.

01:25<jm_>well it looks like it's generating some bogus events, whether that's real is hard to say - you'd need to use other tools to see what is going on
01:26<Yonut27>is there the possiblity that the keypress delay was changed to a much quicker setting?
01:26<Yonut27>could you list a couple of these other tools?

01:32<jm_>the problem with xev is you need to start it and focus it
01:32<jm_>or use its -id option
01:32<Yonut27>not really a problem, as I don't need to type anything real, I just need the event to be triggered right?
01:32<jm_>so I suppose you can do this in advance before the problem starts
01:33<jm_>and then when things go berserk, you might see something - but if focus moves elsewhere, you won't really catch it this way
01:33<jm_>this somehow reminds me of wrong mouse protocol being used
01:33<Yonut27>true, but the keybaord keys still work, so I should be able to navigate back to the terminal
01:34<Yonut27>unless the action it does is close it on me
01:35<Yonut27>ok, but the thing that gets me to notice that this is going to happen is when I am typing, sometimes the rightclick menu appears.

11:31<shrift>Hello. I am having a problem where I have two debian servers, one lenny, one etch, and the lenny server's clock is always 1 minute ahead of the the other. I have them both set to sync up from the same ntp server (my own server running ntp service for my network)... I can't seem to get them to sync up exactly. Is this normal?
11:32<locklace>shrift: no, on one of them ntp isn't working right or it has a clock problem

11:33<shrift>well I've re-run dpkg-reconfigure tzdata on both and set it to the same value

17:53<niblets>well,im new to linux, and networking in general. my house has two laptops, one windoze vista, one linux (ubuntu to be specific, crunchbang to be exact). im trying to figure out if i buy an external hard drive (1tb) for storage, and plug it into my wireless router via ethernet, or usb, if that will work for both comps if i set it up with as fat32

20:45<abrotman>n3cro: easier i believe .. not required .. but go ahead
20:45<n3cro>oh.ok will test without the separate /boot then.thanks
20:46<abrotman>though .. the last time i tried to do raid1 with swraid .. it wouldn't take ..

20:46<n3cro>abrotman what do you mean?
20:46<abrotman>n3cro: ignore me .. continue with what you were doing
20:46<peterS>anyway, 100 MB is pretty generous for /boot, if you need a /boot. three kernels with some backup files seems to fit in under 50 MB here
