09:15<ml|>or recommended
09:16<OdyX>ml|: .changes.unstable doesn't carry much information that you can't get trough apt-listchanges
09:16<OdyX>I use aptitude's ncurses ui with MAJ-C to get the changes before installing...

12:19<Yonut27>Using Lenny 2.6.26-2-686, and when I am playing any sounds, I am having problems with volume control. I had to setup hotkeys for volume as I don't have a multimedia keyboard. The keys work, as for as showing the volume moving up and down, but the sound never changes. I either have to use the actual slider on my taskbar, or use the programs volume control. How can I fix this problem?

12:29<Yonut27>it is like the mixer is working properly, as I can change volume from menubar control slider. The problem seems to be with what nautilus uses to change the volume when hotkeys are used. Like I said, there is a window that appears when you use the hotkeys, showing the volume changing, and even muting, but it never changes the volume. And when you check the menubar slider, it hasn't changed either.

15:29<sylock_>hi. I'm using squid 2.6. I have not enough filedescriptors availble for the squid caching. I read that in 2.7 we can change the max_filedescriptors in the squid.conf but not in the 2.6 as I am. I read that with 2.6, the value is controlled by ulimit. So I added into /etc/security/limits.conf this line : "proxy hard nofile 8192". After that, I restarted squid. But my modif had no effect. the command "squidclient mgr:info | grep 'file descri'" give me 1024 a
15:29<sylock_>s the max file descriptor and not 8192.
15:29<slush>kop: tcpdump just listens to incoming traffic, it doesn't look at iptables rules
15:30<sylock_>so here is my question : how can I modify this ulimit value to make squid be aware of.

21:59<deniz>jclinton, k, thank you for confirming that but

22:00<jclinton>if you want fglrx installed, you can do that

22:00<deniz>the radeon driver in ubuntu worked with 3d tho
22:00<deniz>no fglrx
22:00<jclinton>not true
22:01<deniz>how is that not true? it worked then it froze after which was a bug but it still worked then i manually had installed fglrx
22:01<deniz>that was in my ubuntu days
22:01<deniz>cuz it froze after 5 min of gaming with nexuiz
22:01<jclinton>KMS, gem and the needed GTT were not merged until 2.6.31
22:01<jclinton>which hasn't even been released yet
22:01<jclinton>for radeon
22:01<jclinton>intel driver was merged in 2.6.29
22:02<deniz>so how would you explain it working in ubuntu and what do you suggest i do?
22:02<jclinton>if ubuntu was doing something stupid with the drivers in the kernel, i would not be surprised
22:03<jclinton>deniz, either run unstable and build 2.6.31 yourself or installed fglrx
22:03<jclinton>deniz, those are your options
22:03<deniz>ok so i can install fglrx until .31 makes it to testing?
22:03<jclinton>deniz, yes
22:03<deniz>ok but previously
22:04<deniz>i had installed fglrx
22:04<deniz>and i caused myself so many issues
22:04<deniz>i destroyed my install

22:04<dpkg>The enter key is not a substitute for punctuation. Hitting enter unnecessarily makes it difficult to follow what you are saying. Consider using ',', '. ', ';', '...', '---', or ':' instead. If you hit enter too often, you will be autokicked by debhelper for flooding the channel.
