03:03<tcsetattr>so you have a login that's come down to a bare X server, that doesn't respond to anything?
03:06<sander_m>tcsetattr: gnome-session appears to be running, as does metacity. I know why gnome-panel and the desktop are not: I disabled them. I'm switching to awesome as window manager so I don't need the panel and desktop anymore. But something went wrong and metacity started instead of awesome.

09:28<morla>I have a problem with aptitude / apt; I'm running Debian lenny: Linux xxx 2.6.26-1-686-bigmem #1 SMP Fri Mar 13 18:52:29 UTC 2009 ; and a lot moar such boxes. i wanted to upgrade all my machines coz of the kernelbug. if i run: aptitude update ; aptitude safe-upgrade or apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade ; it tells me taht im up to date. but in trhe kernel version i run the bug is still IN. i had to install "linux-image-2.6.26-2-686-bigmem" via $ aptitude
09:29<morla>coz, when i run aptitude update; aptitude safe-upgrade and it tells me there is nothing to update i get a feeling of BEEING UP 2 DATE
09:29<jidm>althaser: maybe the repos are the slow thing?
09:30<morla>which im not...
09:30<jackyf>morla: pastebin 'dpkg -l | grep "^linux-image"'
09:30<morla>one sec
09:30<jidm>althaser: if that, you can try with a different mirror for your repositories

After resuming, gnome-screensaver asks for a password. After entering the password, X freezes (but mouse can still move). I cannot chvt. I can however, ssh into the machine. Doing so, reveals fusion-icon launching hundreds of copies of gnome-terminal. Tracing one of these, I see something related to freedesk

23:15<kop>hope13: It all depends on how you've postfix configured. For myself the mail runs through postfix more than once because it passes through a spam filter.
