00:02<Nemoder>what's a good fast gui app for checking free space on each partition?
00:03<Nemoder>only runs as root :/
00:04-!-detly [~detly@] has joined #debian
00:05<detly>hi - I need a bit of help with udftools, specifically making a udf fs on a partitioned external hard drive
00:05<ansgar>df -h | xmessage -file - ;)
00:06<Nemoder>well it's fast, i'll give it that
00:07<phorce1>so, how would I get my nVidia video card to default to using its DVI output for at boot time when it has monitors connected to both the DVI and VGA ports? I'm running Lenny and messing with dual monitor setup now that I have both monitors on my desk at the same time.

00:21<phorce1>Nemoder: all I can find is xdiskusage and it is definitely not fast (it uses 'du' as its backend)
00:22<Nemoder>I found gtkdiskfree which works well enough, it's a little hard on the eyes but usable
00:24<Nemoder>and baobab is much better than xdiskusage for analyzing folders
00:25<phorce1>Nemoder: the xmessage output of df is actually pretty readble. You can make a menu entry for it pretty quick. ;-)
00:25<Nemoder>yeah and it's easier to copy, though I do like the percentage bars in gtkdiskfree

02:40<mike_>Flaarg - I should have said thanks to you. Mouse bumping the bottom of the screen now works again for me. Thanks!

02:41<flaarg>but it could be because your proc is too slow, flash eats up cpu.
02:42<flaarg>and only some intel and ati cards can benefit from gpu acceleration of flash
02:42<mike_>Thanks flaarg. It works for about 6 hours after a re-boot, but I like to leave lenny up for months at a time. I don't feel so lonely now that others are having that problem too.
02:43<flaarg>I find restarting my browser helps a lot and it seems to work better in chromium than firefox

02:44<flaarg>the linux beta has been released
02:45<mike_>I like apt-get because it is auto-update with apt-get. Other methods don't auto-update.
02:45<flaarg>once you install the deb from google it adds it to the sources.list so update/upgrade will update it
02:45<mike_>yep, and that's a good thing

02:47<mike_>if it is a freebie with no guilt attached, that's for me
02:47<flaarg>its free sure, but it does a bit of data tracking, although google already does my email and phones so I guess that doesn't bother me
02:47<mike_>yes, google scares me too
02:48<flaarg>I figure they get so much data its rather impersonal and i just add another decimal to some massive statistics algorithm
02:49<mike_>It still bothers me when Pizza Hut knows my name from my phone number and all those web sites know what part of the state I am located.
02:49<Spec>i've installed winxp on the master hard disk, and after that installed debian on the other.. it installed a GNU GRUB and i dont see winxp there and except that when i choose the debian (not the single-user mode) from the grub it loads some stoof and then my screen turns off and i get a message: Please change resolution to 1024x768
02:52<mike_>flaarg - my processor is 2800 and I have about 60 tabs in firefox open that all work except youtube stutters terribly. Thanks for the guidance tho, I'll try that, just not right now, it is late.
02:54<Spec>could some1 help me with the above?
02:55<flaarg>Spec: can you get into debian?
02:55<flaarg>regular or safemode?
02:55<Spec>not now... because of couldnt do nothing i formated both hard disks
02:56<mike_>Spec: I don't know very much about your problem, but if you can get it to come up in single user mode, perhaps you can edit the file(whatever it is) that is asking for screen resolution change, or edit the Xorg file??
02:56<flaarg>oh you just have to run update-grub as root and it should add windows
02:56<mike_>would he have to do that in single user mode?
02:56<Spec>in single user mode it says: not permitted

08:36<dpkg>For the java plugin install either the icedtea-gcjwebplugin (free) plugin or the sun-java6-plugin (<non-free>). For other java programs (lenny onwards), you can install the default-jre package to get install a java runtime, or "apt-cache search java-virtual-machine" to see other implementations. The best options are probably openjdk-6-jre or sun-java6-jre. See also <java alternatives>. Etch users: ask me about <install java etch>.

16:44<Lethalman__>you can remove kde-standard and install packages by hand except korganizer and kaddressbook and purge mysql server

16:44<craigevil>Getty: its akonadi-server that pulls mysql in
16:44<Getty>ah ok
16:45<Getty>and why someone needs a mysql-server?

23:00<bKB1Bf53KaScxekjhV>I did it
23:00<bKB1Bf53KaScxekjhV>works :]
23:01<never_not_not_not>so i got network manager installed. i'm reading the script in /etc/init.d
23:01<never_not_not_not>did you say i can configure this to automatically join a valid network and then what i was going for was some sort of audible alert like a beep or something
23:03<bKB1Bf53KaScxekjhV>wrong window?
23:03<icebrain>never_not_not_not: yes,
23:04<icebrain>it runs all the shell scripts in that dir; you can just see if $2 is "up", and if it is, beep
23:07<never_not_not_not>icebrain: is this an auxiliary package?
23:07<icebrain>never_not_not_not: no, it's part of n-m, iinm

23:07<icebrain>never_not_not_not: do you have the dir?
23:08<never_not_not_not>yeah. i have the dir and '01ifupdown' inside of it
23:09<icebrain>never_not_not_not: you can make a new shell script in that folder
23:09<never_not_not_not>a script that beeps
23:10<never_not_not_not>does network-manager automatically join networks?
23:10<icebrain>never_not_not_not: yes. and $2 will have "up" or "down", depending on the event

23:16<dakka>hello, am i allowed to ask questions in here, or ask for help?
23:16<never_not_not_not>yeah. go for it
23:16<never_not_not_not>just keep it on topic
23:17<dakka>i am kinda new to linux, however i recently decided to use firefox instead of iceweavel, reason being animated png wouldnt work in iceweavel, but they work in FF
23:17<dakka>i ended up using FF 64bit, with the 32bit plugin manager, but i am not able to get the 64 bit FF working with my printers
23:18<dakka>no printers show up at all, so i am thinking of using the 32 bit FF instead
23:18<never_not_not_not>this sounds like a firefox question
23:18<dakka>ahh and that is off topic right?
23:18<never_not_not_not>yes. you can still get help, just not here
23:18<never_not_not_not>join #firefox on
23:18<dakka>was just wondering if going 32bit was a bad idea or not for FF
23:19<dakka>hmm, ok never mind, i will just do it and see how it goes <shrug>
23:19<ggsalas>Hi. Qt4 ugly font rendering in Debian Lenny (gnome). Help?. Thank you.
23:19<dakka>figured others would have experience in this here
23:19<never_not_not_not>can y ou run 32bit on a 64 arch?'
23:20<never_not_not_not>bob would probably have a better idea
23:20<never_not_not_not>i dont use ff
23:20<dakka>yea thats ok, i will test it for myself. Just been compiling FF for around 20mins now and was hoping this would work at the end of it
