04:07-!-maKtieOS [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
04:08<fossiiil>no idea what's going on, it's not possible to be caused by multiple execution of /etc/rc.firewall due to flushing on the beginning...
04:08<@Ganneff>what makes you think rc.firewall is it?
04:09<fossiiil>i don't know
04:09<@Ganneff>thats not where the stuff is stored on debian
04:09<@Ganneff>(it highly depends on the package you use, actually)
04:10<fossiiil>i run it from /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/firewall
04:11<@Ganneff>now thats some information. then you want to look a.) if that script actually gets run, b.) if you do have any interface specific rules that are too early forpre-up
04:11-!-erKURITA [] has joined #debian
04:12<fossiiil>i don't understand b) "too early"
04:12<@Ganneff>too early for the rules to get successfully set, as you are in pre-up... if you have rules that depend on it already being there, it might fail.
04:12-!-davi [] has joined #debian
04:13<fossiiil>i'll think about it, thanks
04:13<@Ganneff>start with a. add a few "echo foo >>/somewhere" in your shellscripts and see if they get out.

10:34<Titan8990>!non-free sources
10:34<dpkg>hmm... non-free sources is edit /etc/apt/sources.list, ensure that the two main Debian mirror lines end with "main contrib non-free" rather than just "main", then aptitude update. But bear in mind that you'll be installing <non-free> software. These may have onerous terms; check the licenses. See also <sources.list>.

15:50<cesurasean>installing squeeze doesn't seem to be an easy option either.
15:51<Titan8990>cesurasean, honestly, I would find a platform that has and supports that version of apache
15:51<Titan8990>preferably another stability-oriented distro such as centos
15:51<BARBIE>Debian is for noob.... Windows is for Geek sorry
15:51<Titan8990>you could just give install all those depends a try, but it could result badly
15:51<cesurasean>wow. why would i want to get rid of debian over 1 simple reason?

20:13<chahibi>dpkg -L perhaps
20:13<dpkg>No packages found matching perhaps
20:15<chahibi>there is also dlocate
20:15<babilen>mezimezim: don't know about the sound applet, but you have to execute the nm applet. --> ALT+F2 'nm-applet'
20:17<mezimezim>babilen: that's what I've been doing for a few days now at boot up, but it's annoying, the computer won't connect to internet otherwise

20:24<mezimezim>where's .xsession-errors??
20:25<babilen>mezimezim: it's in your home (~/.xsession-errors) and they are closed, because you close the terminal from which they were started. that's why i suggtested to start them with the gnome run dialogue (ALT+F2)

21:25<kfank>I apparently had vim installed as I could execute it from the shell. However, aptitude showed that it was not installed. I manually removed the vim executable from \etc\bin and then installed the package with aptitude. It now shows that it is installed but it won't run from the shell. So if it did install, I don't know where.

21:49<gilbert>vim will map to any of the vim alternatives

21:51<gilbert>so 'ln -s /etc/alternatives/vim /usr/bin/vim' should do what you need
