03:06<andrew1618>goodger: once I've added that do I need apt to update?
03:06<goodger>andrew1618: yes, you'll need to run aptitude update after every change to that file

03:07-!-mode/#debian [+l 374] by debhelper
03:08<andrew1618>goodger: or 'apt-get update'?
03:09<goodger>andrew1618: indeed

03:11<andrew1618>goodger: Next question. Is it worth trying to install flash for ice-weasel or would it be easier to just install firefox and go from there?
03:11<goodger>andrew1618: indeed; the facilities exist to download and automatically compile the source of these packages, but they go virtually unused
03:12<goodger>andrew1618: iceweasel is just firefox without the branding, due to mozilla's trademark people being babyish, so you should just use iceweasel
03:12-!-kaziem [~devnull@] has joined #debian
03:12<andrew1618>goodger: I just don't see the point in compiling everything from source if you are a desktop user.
03:13<goodger>you'll find a flashplugin-nonfree package in the nonfree repository, I think
03:13<jar>andrew1618: i don't think he does either if he's switching
03:13-!-Odius [] has joined #debian
03:13<jar>btw, hi goodger
03:13<andrew1618>goodger: are there any easy ways to install flash via apt-get? I'm guesing aptitude is a front end for apt?
03:13<jar>andrew1618: sorry, i thought goodger said that
03:13<andrew1618>jar: yes it wore thin after about 9 months
03:14<jar>andrew1618: i used to write ebuilds.
03:14<andrew1618>yes indeed he did
03:14<andrew1618>jar, you poor thing!
03:14<jar>i think that mind fsck took 5 years at least off my life
03:14<goodger>andrew1618: apt-get is also a frontend for apt, and see above for the flash plugin package
03:14<jar>goodger: i think you meant apt-get is a frontend for dpkg
03:15<goodger>jar: actually, apt-get and aptitude are both frontends of the APT library, which in turn is a package manager that works with dpkg but is not a frontend of it
03:15<jar>goodger: not to be a douche but isn't that like saying gimp is a front-end to gtk?
03:16<goodger>no, it is like saying GIMP is a frontend to libgimp that works with libjpeg
03:17<jar>fair enough
03:18<goodger>this is, at least, my understanding of the issue; others have different definitions of various things

10:26<Blob>kop: but I don't have any /etc/gshadow : /
10:26<Blob>themill: aha, I didn't do that
10:26<kop>Blob: Ok. You don't have to. But it goes with /etc/shadow. Which is a good idea to have.

10:30<themill>Unfortunately, vipw wouldn't actually stop that error though, it would just assume you have a user called root:Blob
