08:04<alfa_>hi, i need to install tomcat 6, can anyone help pls
08:06<locklace>,versions tomcat6
08:06<judd>tomcat6 -- squeeze: 6.0.24-2; sid: 6.0.24-3
08:08<locklace>then you get to build it yourself
08:09<alfa_>yeap, that i get it, but i don,t know how ... i a little noob on linux systems
08:09-!-ernesto [~ecrespo@] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
08:09<locklace>then it will be a learning experience. good luck
08:09<alfa_>i am a little noob*
08:09<dpkg>First: See if the package has already been backported. Ask me about <backports>. If it hasn't, 1) Add ONLY a "deb-src ..." line for sid to your sources.list. 2) apt-get update 3) apt-get install build-essential; apt-get build-dep packagename;apt-get -b source packagename; 4) install the resultant debs. If you are just wanting to change the compilation options, ask me about <package recompile>, or see <uupdate> if sid is too old
08:10<babilen>locklace: try that ^^^^^
08:10<abrotman>not really sure tomcat will ssb so easily
08:10<babilen>but i'm not sure if that will work out for tomcat
08:10<locklace>babilen: wrong nick, and the version he wants isn't even in sid
08:10*babilen waves to abrotman
08:10<alfa_>i know about backports a little, i config the source for that
08:11<alfa_>sry , pressed up
08:11<alfa_>i config the source for backports last days
08:11<And1>Any ideas, why I would get this error message in .xsession-errors: "/home/and1/.xsession: 9: source: not found" (The command in my .xsession is 'source $HOME/.bash_profile')?
08:11<alfa_>i'll try that but i don't think i'll found it
08:12<babilen>alfa_: It's not in backports - and it might be hard to backport it yourself.
08:13<babilen>alfa_: And that would not be the version (.26) you want anyway
08:13<locklace>And1: source isn't a bourne shell command. use ". file" instead
08:13<alfa_>babilen: yeap your right
08:14<alfa_>i dl the apache-tomcat-6.0.26.tar.gz and unpacked it
08:14<And1>locklace: I get this problem since I'm using sid (yesterday). On lenny it worked?
08:14<babilen>alfa_: You'll have to download the tarball for your tomcat release and compile it yourself. There probably is an INSTALL file in there that explains how to do this. You want to install the build-essential to get (some) of the tools you probably need. You also have to make sure that you can install the build dependencies
08:14-!-beer [] has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
08:14<locklace>And1: also, that's a dumb command to have in your xsession

11:47<nyef>Hello all. I've been installing debian on a new netbook, mostly lenny but some things from testing to get X working, and I'm finding that the network manager applet doesn't show any network devices. Further investigation shows that "lshal | grep net" doesn't show any network devices either, which seems close to a root cause, but I haven't been able to find any good instructions on how to fix this. Can anyone point me in the rig

11:55<nyef>The card itself is fine, I can get online if I use ifconfig and iwconfig directly.
11:55<boolean>that means that a hdd that is partitioned with ext4 today will be exactly the same as a hdd partitioned with ext4 in the future
11:56<locklace>boolean: not necessarily, but the future version should have no trouble reading the old one
