02:38<StarkD>is there a way to manually set the title of a single running gnome-terminal?
02:40<valdyn>StarkD: edit your profile

02:48<jm_>StarkD: does this work? echo -e '\e]0;foo\a'

02:48-!-S4aD [~S4aD@] has quit []
02:50<StarkD>jm_: nope, I don't know if I have some special settings but I have seen that tip a lot
02:50<valdyn>StarkD: you need to make the title changable first - by editing the profile
02:50<jm_>StarkD: hmm let me see if I have gnome-terminal handy somewhere
02:51<StarkD>Zomb: "info xterm" only mentions -T string, -title string Sets the window title.
02:51<Zomb>man xtermset
02:52<StarkD>Zomb: man info :P
02:52<Zomb>info xterm and read. There are things like: It also sets the window title and icon name to be the basename of the program being executed
02:52<Zomb> if neither -T nor -n are given on the command line.
02:53<Zomb>no go figure... g'day
02:53<jm_>bummer, Ilooks like RH EL doesn't install gnome terminal by default despite some of gnome being installed, and on my Debian workstation I don't use it either
02:53-!-SubWolf [SubWolf@] has joined #debian
02:53<StarkD>jm_: ok thanks
02:53<jm_>StarkD: just follow valdyn's advice - look in the options and see if it has a checkobx to allow changing it
02:54<valdyn>i dont want him to *change* the title in the profile, only to *allow* changes
02:54<jm_>maybe it even has something like mrxvt where you middle click on a tab and it sets the title

02:56<jm_>yeah I'd find it strange that such an option would be disabled by default
02:57<StarkD>well my title is also updated when using vim
02:57<valdyn>so it works.
02:58<StarkD>yes but how do I manually set blabla as title
02:58-!-login1 [] has joined #debian
02:58<valdyn>echo -e '\e]0;foo\a' i guess
02:59<StarkD>sorry it doesn't do the trick
02:59<valdyn>xtermset then
02:59<jm_>or xtermset or xtermcontrol if you want easier to use tools - I just wrote myself a shell function that uses the above echo trick

03:03<valdyn>actually, thats user@host:dir, not just the $PWD
03:03<StarkD>jm_: 62 didn't change anything. the current title is the dynamic one set in the profile
03:03<jm_>StarkD: so it may work but your shell prompt overwrites it then

03:13<jm_>.bashrc even
03:13<valdyn>StarkD: "source ~/.bashrc"
03:14<tofix>jm_ : for saving more battery, my adaptator is at home and my laptop will have only one hour of autonomy .
03:14<jm_>tofix: ok, you can boot with a kernel parameter but it's unlikely to change anything on a properly configured system

03:15<tofix>jm_ : so, just have to load a non smp kernel and that's all, nothing else to do ?

03:16<tofix>jm_ : txs
03:16<the-dude>tofix: turn your screen brightness down, or use a external monitor

10:56<dpkg>hmm... equivs is a package that enables you to create dummy packages that tell apt you really have installed (through some other means) the package. apt-get install equivs, and read /usr/share/doc/equivs/*, or see also <usrlocal> A better plan is often to adapt the debian packages to your needs, ask me about <package recompile> <uupdate> <ssb>

23:41<twigga>i told iceweasel to clear all history
23:41<twigga>and it works now
23:41<twigga>but midori worked to before that
23:42<Mario>then it was a glitch in the matrix. Or in iceweasel.
23:42<twigga>this pisses me off, id like to use midori..and not need iceweasel..but in order to instal sun-java6-plugin requires iceweasel...what crap...i dont need two browsers...
23:43<twigga>i have a new beer to pour, photograph, and review.
