04:59<Jarlaxe>hi everybody. i reinstalled a squeeze on a eeepc lately and i have a bug i don't understand, if ever you can have an idea. It's a basic installation by net install, with only one part + one swap. So after the install, just with lxde and a few packages, i arrived to a 130GB partition, 95% full !!!

05:12<Walex>Jarlaxe: it is an unusual situation, and right now the only thing I can imagine is that you have created by mistake a very large journal log.
05:12<Jarlaxe>Walex: rootfs rootfs 7G 6G 1G 87% /
05:13<Walex>Jarlaxe: the other possibility is that your system crashed and needs 'fsck' to recover free blocks.
05:13<Walex>Jarlaxe: the output from 'df' says that it is a 7G partition with 6G used. Sounds right.
05:14<Jarlaxe>Walex: that sounds normal : that's what i created
05:14<Jarlaxe>Walex: I can try a fsck ...
05:14<Walex>Jarlaxe: where do you get the 130G from?
05:15<Walex>Jarlaxe: because the output from 'df' is that things are fine.
05:15<Jarlaxe>Walex: I get it from gparted
05:15<Walex>Jarlaxe: ahhhhhh.
05:16<Jarlaxe>Walex: from parted also
05:16<Walex>Jarlaxe: put on a pastebin something the output of 'sudo fdisk -l /dev/...; sudo parted /dev/... print'
05:17<Walex>Jarlaxe: it is likely that 'parted' gets it wrong.
05:17<Walex>Jarlaxe: unless you have really screwed up the partition table somehow. In any case the kernel believes that the root partition is 7G and has 6G.

05:45<blacklight>do you know how i can set up a working X installation again?
05:45<Walex>Jarlaxe: the most optimistic explanation is that you created a 7GB filesystem inside a 130GB partition...
05:47<Walex>Jarlaxe: also 'sudo stat /'
05:47<blacklight>no help?
05:47<bartm>blacklight: it seems that you have not read the messages from bzed and dpkg

05:49<blacklight>Walex: my question was not vague, i told you exactly the sequence of operations i made, the version of the driver i tried to install, the version of debian i'm using and the error i get at startx
05:50<Walex>Jarlaxe: well, the 'stat' output says that the filesystem is on '/dev/sda2' and the filesystem is 7GB in size. Either the kernel thinks that '/dev/sda2' is 7GB, and the partitions table has not been reread, or you just created a 7GB filesystem inside a 130GB partition.
05:51-!-streuner [~streuner@] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
05:52<Walex>Jarlaxe: if you got nothing to lose, try 'resize2fs /dev/sdb2', this will expand the filesystem to the same size as the partition, if this is what you actually want.
05:52<dr|z3d>hell_razer: Please, talk to me here, not via pm. Thanks.
05:52<Walex>Jarlaxe: but usually I recommand creating something like a 12GB '/' filesystem and partition, and then the rest in the '/home'
05:52-!-massmc [] has joined #debian
05:52<blacklight>this is the log at startx:
05:53<Jarlaxe>Walex: as i choose the guided basic installer, it created this 7GB into a 130GB partition. But i'd like to shrink the 130GB to 10GB or something...
05:53<blacklight>if i don't kill it with SIGKILL from another terminal, it just goes on with "No protocol specified"
05:53<Jarlaxe>Walex: yes it's exactly what i wanted to do !
05:53-!-massmc [] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
05:53<bzed>blacklight: what you should do is to find a way to clean the mess up - that ati crap usually leaves files behind or replaces files from random packages (which is the reason why we do NOT support it here....) - so you will have to bring everything back to files from debian. then install fglxr (note: it does not necessarily replace the crap the ati-run stuff left behind), and then ask questions here.
05:53<blacklight>i repeat, it's not a problem with ati driver, i just want to have an X installation working again
05:54<dpkg>From Lenny onwards, xorg mostly configures itself. Resolution is set by your monitor/graphics card (unless they're broken) or by your desktop environment or <xrandr>. From Squeeze, input hotplugging saves duplicating settings and restarting X after changes. The /etc/X11/xorg.conf file is usually no longer needed and is often blank. Manual configuration is still possible, see <xorg config lenny> <xorg config squeeze>.

05:54<bzed>blacklight: just make your xorg.conf empty
05:55<blacklight>bzed: i completely removed /etc/X11/xorg.conf*
05:55<Walex>Jarlaxe: then use 'parted' to shrink the partition and put the newly created gap in '/dev/sdb3'
05:55<blacklight>and still it won't start
05:55-!-Celtiore [] has joined #debian
05:55<Walex>Jarlaxe: you will need at least a reboot to get the kernel to read the new partition table.
05:56<Jarlaxe>Walex: I try it
05:56<Walex>Jarlaxe: note that 'parted' will just shrink '/dev/sdb2', because the filsystem inside is already smaller.
05:56-!-removefromhere [] has joined #debian
05:57<Walex>Jarlaxe: ideally, shrink '/dev/sdb2' to something like 12GB, not 7GB, as your existing filesystem is already quite full
05:57<Walex>Jarlaxe: after shrinking the partition *and rebooting* use 'resize2fs' to expand the filesystem from 7Gb to the new full size of '/dev/sdb2'

17:57<Hero_>I need help again. Not a surpise I know. Well yesterday through reading documentation and googling I found out at edit my $PATH through the terminal and add the "." so I didn't have to type './' every time I wanted to test the file. 17:57<Hero_> today I don't know what the hell happend when i type it say command not found. So I check the $PATH variable and I don't see the '.' a the end. So i type '$PATH=$PATH+:.' and now there is '+:.' in my $PATH and it's doubled in length. I'm not sur if I used something like $PATH+=':.' yesterday or not. Any still can't run my pythontest.file
