04:45<Lethias>question for you guys, I've got Lenny installed on my system, I installed firestarter for a firewall on my system as well. I had a bug, with firestarter that has to do with segfault, googled it, and read there was a patch released into the debian repositories 1.0.3-7. Apparently they have it up to 1.0.3-8 and my system when I try to update doesn't see it, any ideas why?

05:02<hbbs>themill, infact, evince is installed.
05:03<themill>hbbs: there are other packages in that list that are Recommends that are being installed. Options like that are a double-edged sword... sometimes they don't really do what you want.
05:04<hbbs>themill, this is a complex situation - of course you can view dvi-files with evince but oktagon seems to iontegrate better with kile

14:34<mase>sambo ctrl+alt+backspc is still working?
14:35<jordanm>sambo: when you are starting X the 2nd time, are you starting gdm again or using startx?

14:36<sambo>i boot up, log in with gdm, restart X, log again with GDM and get to my desktop

21:51*jeremyb is having quite a bit of trouble with in a vm
21:52<jeremyb>says no bootable media found; when I add a second cd drive to the vm and boot off a working cd with the one i just linked also mounted on the other drive and checksum (sha1sum /dev/sr1) it matches. and the vm is able to boot off of fine
21:52<jeremyb>can someone try to reproduce?
21:52<jeremyb>or is there a better channel to discuss this in?
21:53<jpinx-eeepc>jeremyb: right place wrong time maybe

21:54*jpinx-eeepc checks jeremyb s sanity ..... fail ;)
21:55<smv>~2 days ago i had the same problem when tried to use the iso from a usb. i decided to just use the good old debootstrap manualy from a live debian cd.
21:55<jpinx-eeepc>it's the weeke nd and lots of guys who help here do so from their work - and it's nighttime USA side..
21:56<jeremyb>jpinx-eeepc: i know, i think many of them are screen'd though so maybe they're here after hours :P (and I'm east coast myself)
21:56<jeremyb>smv: bare metal?
21:57<jeremyb>(i did some diffing of hexdumps but I don't know anything about el torrito)
21:59<smv>though, i didn't had a cd to check if there was something wrong with the iso itself or with the usb part of the installer. but i guess it was something wrong with the iso, since i used the usb stick later that day, though with a different fs, ext4 this time, not fat16 as used by the installer.

22:08<acrocycle>That's fine?
22:08<pablo1_618>but, you dont want to remove dependencies
22:08<smv>if gdm is the only one to be removed, and you also have gdm3 you should be ok. now if is about gnome then it's another thing.

22:09<pablo1_618>when "aptitude" start to remove dependencies, then

22:13<smv>i guess it depends on many other factors what should be removed if not used. some are metapackages and might drag out others packages too. i'd say to leave those that come with gnome alone, and try to purge the not used apps one at a time
