01:07<jm_>And1: did you solve the missing pcf font issue with fontconfig?
01:07-!-paultag [] has joined #debian
01:10<And1>jm_: No it still doesn't work. :/ Even with the 'update-fonts-{dir|scale|alias}' method.
01:11<a7x>pavi, lynx?
01:11<jm_>And1: did you enable/force using of bitmap fonts in fontconfig configuration?
01:11<And1>jm_: Lemme see...
01:11<pavi>a7x, lynx when I don't have a GUI present :)
01:12<a7x>pavi, i know
01:12<pavi>a7x, also sometimes when I am running low on processor or memory and i just need to check some wikipedia article I use lynx .
01:13<And1>jm_: 'dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config' says "Enable bitmapped fonts by default? <No>"
01:13<pavi>lynx is good for reading text
01:13<jm_>And1: ok set that to yes
01:13<a7x>pavi, midori?
01:13<pavi>dpkg midori
01:13<dpkg>well, midori is a lightweight graphical web browser based on WebKit, packaged for Debian <testing>. #midori on
01:14<pavi>Ahh didn't know about that
01:14<And1>jm_: What are .psf-files for? They were also in the font-.tar.gz ...
01:14*pavi apt-get install's midori ;)
01:15-!-Ornedan [] has quit [Ping timeout: 480 seconds]
01:15<pavi>dependencies libjs-mootools .. hmm interesting
01:15<jm_>And1: console fonts

01:17<a7x>pavi, i use: 'aptitude install' :)
01:17<And1>jm_: How would I install those? -- xlsfonts show the font now. Do I have to restart my pc?
01:17<And1>jm_: I even tried to open a new second X...
01:17<pavi>a7x, I know aptitude is good but I kind of am used to apt-get and it sounds more cute than aptitude :D
01:17<jm_>And1: no, those are for use on your tty-s, outside of X, you can load them via console-* config or consolechars command (manually)
01:18<pavi>a7x, Thanks a lot dude . Its a super browser
01:18<And1>jm_: Ah, I see... got terminus for that.
01:19<pavi>a7x, I also like the green icon for browser .. so refreshing like the mint :)
01:20<a7x>pavi, and to me more like aptitude
01:23<soloflyer>had are now incorporated in to apt-get
01:24<soloflyer>most of the advantages that aptitude had are mow in apt-get
01:24-!-tazz [] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
01:25<soloflyer>other than the curses menu system
01:25<soloflyer>of course :)
01:25<And1>jm_: So I just download the font, gzip the .pcf-files, move them to /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc, 'update-fonts-* && fc-cache -fv'. Anything else?
01:28<jm_>And1: I would not use that dir, but otherwise OK I think
01:28-!-ottoshmidt [~ottoshmid@] has joined #debian
01:28<jm_>but you will probably not want to use these fonts with fontconfig anyway
01:29<And1>jm_: What do you mean?
01:29<jm_>And1: with which part?
01:32-!-k-man [] has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
01:32<And1>jm_: Why I don't want to use these fonts with fontconfig. What is fontconfig in that context? fontconfig is only for GUI-programs and that's why I won't use the font with that?
01:32-!-mariusv [] has joined #debian
01:32<jm_>And1: because they will most likely look ugly ;)
01:33<And1>Ah. ;) I wanted to try them only in urxvt... - So why would I have to enable bitmapped fonts?
01:33<jm_>And1: fontconfig is mainly used for scalable fonts
01:34<jm_>And1: but you don't need to enable them in fontconfig for urxvt, just use its -fn option

21:07<dbldtx>Nemoder; we're in business. Thank you. You're my Jack Donaghy.
21:08<Nemoder>I hope that's a good thing :)
21:09<rafael>As this is pretty much dead tonight, do you guys use xfce?
21:10<rafael>I don't get it very well
21:10<jhutchins2>dbldtx: Use the process table to see what's running.
21:10<Nemoder>rafael: yes I prefer it over gnome and kde
21:10-!-Zathras [] has quit [Read error: Connection timed out]
21:10<rafael>it's just that I'm not so sure where to put it in my mental scheme
21:11<rafael>I like kde for bloat
21:11<rafael>and lxde for light
21:11<rafael>why do you loke it?
21:11-!-Zathras [] has joined #debian
21:11<Nemoder>xfce was the first lightweight DE I used that didn't require writing scripts for every little adjustment
21:12<Nemoder>so after I got used to it it was hard to try anything else
21:12<dbldtx>rafael; Yes. Used fluxbox and blackbox and lxde and my old Compaq Presario POS with no wireless (but a serial port) (Presario 2100) is running IceWM
21:13-!-monsarbor [] has joined #debian
21:13<dbldtx>rafael; I like that XFCE is a DE and not just a WM... it's configuration is simpler than fluxbox to the un-initiated because you have point and click settings rather than textfiles.
21:14<rafael>that's true. it's much easier to get up and going with it
21:14<Nemoder>also I don't use the xfce/gnome menu very often, it's all custom launchers or terminal for me
21:14-!-monsarbor [] has quit []
21:14<Nemoder>and editing a text file every time i want to change a launcher icon wasn't fun
21:15<dbldtx>IceWM runs very well on my POS laptop but my desktop is beefy enough that I can run something like XFCE faster than my laptop runs StumpWM or RatPoison... but I can note severe speed difference over using Gnome or KDE

21:17<rafael>nemoder, which wms are you referring to that require heavy editing? dbldtx, do you really see a big performance increase compared to gnome and kde?
21:17*cthuluh has set up a hilight on "ratpoison" 8)
21:17<Nemoder>rafael: I admit it's been awhile since i've used anything else but I started out with Afterstep back in the 90s :)
21:18<rafael>ok. I tried window maker a little, but haven't fiddled a lot with it so far and I guess it must be like that too

21:20<Nemoder>rafael: I also use a lot of different apps not tied to the DE though like rox-filer for a file manager and audacious for music
21:20<rafael>I don't know audacious much, but rox-filer is very nice
21:21<Nemoder>thunar is getting better but I still find it a bit too clunky
21:21<Nemoder>and rox is soo fast
21:21<rafael>do you know if you can still install the rox desktop? it's not in the repos
