04:33<axius1>hello, I'm running into a problem when trying to install debian squeeze. When creating the partitions, I used the guided scenario with separate home partition. It creates home and swap but when it gets to / it gives me an error message: The attempt to mount a file system with type ext3 in SCSI3 (2,0,0), partition #1 (sda) at / failed.

12:03<babilen>shiznatix: You might also want to ask in ##windows on if they know of good tools to access ext2/ext3 filesystems on Windows. The Wikipedia article on ext3 lists a few in the "External Links" section, but I have no idea how well they work.

17:35<wferi1>Hi! I'm upgrading from lenny to squeeze, following the release notes.
17:36<wferi1>I did an apt-get upgrade first.
17:36<wferi1>then installed the squeeze kernel (I've been running a newer one already anyway)
17:36<wferi1>the issued apt-get install udev, which pulled in the new libc.
17:37<wferi1>However, that command stuck, seemingly indefinitely.
17:37<wferi1>ps shows udev.postinst running and having an udevd --daemon child.
17:38<wferi1>Now the computer functions pretty well, I could start pidgin for example, but whatever I try to do to the apt-get process freezes.
17:38<wferi1>sudo bash freezes, sudo strace -p PID OF APT-GET freezes.
17:39<wferi1>Doing an ssh -vvv login to the machine goes on until "debug1: Entering interactive session." then freezes (an eventually times out).
17:40<retrospectacus>!squeeze udev
17:40<dpkg>As of <udev> version 150 (i.e. squeeze), Linux kernel 2.6.27 or later is required for correct operation. As of udev 163, you should be able to accept this warning message and complete the dist-upgrade to squeeze. Ensure that you have the current squeeze kernel installed (aptitude versions '~nlinux-image~i') prior to rebooting. See also <squeeze udev fix>, <squeeze kernel>, <kernel abi>,
17:40<retrospectacus>!squeeze udev fix
17:40<dpkg>[NOT necessary as of udev 163] If you're already stuck in a loop where apt tries to configure udev but that bails out because you don't have a new kernel installed yet: touch /etc/udev/kernel-upgrade; aptitude install linux-image-`uname -r | sed 's/.*-//'`; reboot into new kernel; continue with upgrade procedure to squeeze. Ask me about <squeeze release notes>.

17:41<mjt>wferi1: is glibc completed the install, or not tried?
17:42<wferi1>It tried at least, but gave no error either.
17:42<mjt>so you now should have glibc correctly installed
17:43<wferi1>It completed, unless it does this in several pieces (packages) with udev in between.
