02:02<nickm>So, I maintain a library that debian ships. We are trying to get more organize so that we annoy users and distributors less than we have in the past. One thing we lack is a policy about which bugfixes we should backport into our existing stable releases.
02:02<nickm>Is there something I could read that would let me know what would be most convenient from Debian's pov?
02:02<nickm>(And is there a better place to ask?)
02:03-!-srw [] has joined #debian

02:04<dondelelcaro>nickm: the bigest thing for us is security fixes
02:04-!-lepito [~lepito@] has joined #debian
02:05<dondelelcaro>nickm: everything else would be nice if it's a version that we're shipping, ordered by severity. (Though normally, the bug needs to be relatively important before we'll make a stable release update for it)
02:06<dondelelcaro>nickm: all of that said, the most important thing would be to work directly with whoever is maintaining your library in Debian; they usually will know most about how your library is maintained, and they'll also be familiar with how your library fits into the distribution
02:06<dondelelcaro>(and if they know what your plans are as soon as possible, they can help to make sure that Debian keeps in sync with your plans as much as possible, too.)
02:07<nickm>Alas, he only answers my emails when something breaks. But I'll try asking him again.
02:07<dondelelcaro>nickm: which package?
02:07<dondelelcaro>ah, it's anibal. Yeah, he's really busy, so that's not that surprising
02:08<nickm>(ok, I only have one pending mail where I didn't get an answer from the guy. It may be a fluke)
02:09-!-vovan [~vovan@] has joined #debian

02:10<dondelelcaro>nickm: anyway, you can always ask in #debian-devel too, if the maintainer doesn't respond. Usually someone there can give you an answer too

04:52<vook>you copy the iso image into the usb drive filesystem after you have performed zcat>img.boot.gz

11:09<thrice`>disinpho, mm, it *can* be, but for end-user applications, is less-likely to break. no warranty of course :>
11:09<disinpho>i think the problem came cause i used dotdeb when i installed php - then the roundcube lenny backport wouldnt install cause some of its dependencies where too new
11:12<disinpho>im kinda new to this, but it seems apt-get installed alot of php stuff with roundcube - how do i check and see what kinda other unstable stuff i might have accidently installed to get roundcube

11:22<jhutchins_lt>disinpho: If I were you, I'd start over and stick to lenny/stable and backports until you learn more about how to manage debian.
11:23<jhutchins_lt>disinpho: Mixed releases are really not recommended for anything like a public production server.
11:23<jhutchins_lt>disinpho: Also not recommended unless you already know the answers to the questions you've been asking.

11:24<disinpho>ok, that sounds like good advice
11:24<dpkg>it has been said that dotdeb is for the latest PHP and MySQL releases, packaged up and backported for your pleasure, go to, but realize that we cannot support dotdeb packages here, so you will be ON YOUR OWN. 13:04<bluenemo>hi guys. I administer a root server, primary purpose urbanterror game server. the clan leader strictly wanted some strangely pre configured debian lenny.. sadly in that pre configuration it was forgotten to assemble a raid1 array out of the two 1,5TB hdd. i know have sda1 for swap and /dev/sda2 - ext3 for root. sdb contains zeros. is there still a way to set up raid 1 with mdadm?

23:30<Hydroxide>(I use wicd instead)
23:31<Tekk_>Hydroxide: I try wicd once and a while but it always dies :/
23:31<gencha>in my postinst, i use ucf and it complains that i did not pass --debconf-ok. but i'm not invoking ucf directly, but through dbconfig-common (with dbc_generate_include_args="--ucf"). i noticed that dbconfig-common passes -debconf-ok to ucf in more recent versions. so, can i ignore that warning?
23:31<Tekk_>and network-manager doesn't step on ifconfig stuff, it's the only way I can get it to work
