04:08<Jarlaxe>hi there, i try to play around with FSV on a squeeze, but i'm a little short with compile process. I tar'ed and cd'ed the file, I have a 'configure' file, i do sudo ./configure but "command not found". Rights are 644 for it. Should I modify it to 744 first ?
04:09<nadir>read README or INSTALL or other files like that.
04:10<nadir>not all use configure

04:49<Sherry2>Hi - have a question about resolv.conf
04:50<Sherry2>I am normally used to adding DNS servers manually in resolv.conf
04:50<Sherry2>but on a debian machine - I found the following in resolv.conf
04:50<Sherry2># Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
04:50<Sherry2>I went through the docs for resolver - but it isn't clear
04:51<Sherry2>how do i add entries into resolv.conf?
04:51<jm_>Jarlaxe: they include headers and pkg-config stuff etc.
04:51<rpetre>put the nameservers in /etc/network/interfaces with dns-nameserver
04:52<rpetre>it's a resolvconf(1) thing
04:52<Sherry2>thanks you rpetre
04:52<Sherry2>one more question
04:52<Jarlaxe>jm_: it does indeed install a lot of things
04:52<Sherry2>if I have 2 ISPs - one on eth0 & one on eth1
04:53<Sherry2>i put nameservers for both in /etc/network/interfaces
04:53<rpetre>put them on the right interface
04:53<Sherry2>my quesiton isn't finished
04:53<rpetre>that way, whenerver you ifup/ifdown an interface, resolv.conf will add/remove the one that's needed
04:54<Sherry2>I have outgoing failover and/or loadbalancing configured as per lartc guidelines
04:54<rpetre>... or, uninstall resolvconf and do it the olf-fashoned way
04:55<Sherry2>now should my resolv.conf contain something like opendns which can be accessed through any ISP
04:55<Sherry2>or can I have ISP specific dns servers
04:55<Sherry2>i.e. will the right dns servers be contacted depending on whether traffic is going through ISP1 or ISP2
04:56<Sherry2>if I have 50% outgoing traffic going through eth0 & 50% going through eth1
04:57<Sherry2>what should I have in my resolv.conf
04:57<Sherry2>opendns kind of dns servers or ISP1 & ISP2's dns servers? any idea
04:57<Sherry2>this question isn't related to my earlier question about resolver
04:57<rpetre>personally i'd go for a local dns forwarder i can configure more specifically
04:58<rpetre>i wouldn't be confident the resolver would behave like i'd expect it to

05:10<ZeroEnna>Hi @ all
05:13<ZeroEnna>I just want to ask a quick question concerning the newest release. I wanted to install Lenny 5.0.7 on a Dell PowerEdge R210. I know that there is a problem with the NICs installed on the server, because the PCI ID was unknown to Debian in version 5.0.4. However, The Bugs should be fixed with 5.0.5, but when I tried 5.0.7 (which I thought included the bug fix), the installer still refused to
05:13<ZeroEnna>install the right packages. Did I get it wrong, or is there still aproblem with it?

13:13<Mrafrohead>this particular one...was a box I needed to get current as some asshat was trying to hack into it.
13:14<Mrafrohead>i'm thinking of setting up a debian box at home and actually learning it.
13:14<Mrafrohead>i use ubuntu...and am not impressed with the unity move. so I need to find something else.
13:15<srtu>thats the same thing i am doin, use a fileserver at home with debian since 3 yrs, this year i install a desktop system with ubuntu, but when squeeze is stable i switsch to debain also on the desktop
