02:36<diego>consuming all the free space
02:36<diego>so to overwrite the entire free space on disk
02:37<diego>that is my basic idea
02:37<diego>supose you wanted to delete a file, and you did rm
02:37<diego>then you realize someone could recover that
02:37<diego>but you dont want to reinstall everythin

13:06<Nyquist>Hey guys, I've added a PCI-Express graphic card.. but first I changed my NIC card (PCI) to the next slot.. just to give the necessary physical space to the graphic card. The system has booted without problems, but now my nic card is not being recognized. Also, "ifconfig -a" returns eth2 with a MAC Address like "ff:ff:ff:ff:ff...." instead of eth0 with the correct MAC Address. I've checked "/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules" and it appears to be a
13:06<Nyquist>3th device equals to eth0 but with the wrong MAC address and name:eth2. Can you give me a hand with this please?
13:07<dpkg>udev has the ability to statically rename Ethernet cards based on MAC address since version 0.090. The addresses are configured in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules (Squeeze, Lenny) or /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules (Etch). If you want the mappings to change, edit the respective file. To apply changes: "udevadm trigger" ("udevtrigger" on Etch) or reload the relevant driver module. See also <forcedeth mac>, <udev>.

21:55<dpkg>HFS Plus / HFS+ (aka Mac OS Extended) is a filesystem used in modern Mac systems, replacing <HFS>. <MBR> partition ID: 0xAF. Supports smaller block sizes and UNIX-like features such as symlinks and device stubs. The Linux hfsplus filesystem driver can read/write HFS+ filesystems, tools are in the hfsprogs (mkfs.hfsplus) and hfsplus packages. <parted> can resize HFS+ (shrink only) provided the start of the partition stays fixed.

22:48<Kal>hey could someone tell me how to properly install flash for iceweasel 3.5?
22:51<Tekk>Kal: it's nonfree so you need to go into software sources and enable contrib and nonfree, then you can search in synaptic for flashplayer-nonfree
22:51<Tekk>or something like that
22:52<Kal>i installed that one but its not working
22:52<Kal>doesnt appear under plugins

22:55<abrotman>you have to restart all instances of FF

22:57<Kal>i did and restarted the pc
22:58<Tekk>remove gnash maybe?
22:58<Tekk>oh, on this topic, why is flashplayer-nonfree in contrib?

22:59<Kal>i dont have gnash installed
22:59-!-sigurjon [] has joined #debian
23:00<Tekk>does it work in any other browser?
23:00<jordanm>Tekk: because it doesn't actaully include flash. its just a script that downloads flash
23:00<Arrowmaster>Tekk: its in contrib because it downloads non-free software
23:00<Tekk>jordanm: that seems like a really minor technicality to me though, it's not explicitly the package, but its only function is that it INSTALLS said package, so it's fine?
23:00<Kal>i also tried installing the .rpm package from adobe with alien
23:01<kop>Tekk: That's the definition of what goes in contrib, stuff that's free but installs non-free stuff.
23:01<cybersphinx>Kal: Download the tar.gz, and put the .so file into ~/.mozilla/plugins?
23:01<Tekk>kop: I thought the definition was that it depends on nonfree
23:01<Kal>ok i will try
23:01<Tekk>but if that's the definition it makes a lot more sense
23:01-!-inix [] has joined #debian
23:02<kop>Tekk: I'm not clear regards "depends". You can see the docs. In any case the it's logically consistent.

23:03<Tekk>kop: possibly, in my mind it was always that it depends on things in nonfree, still a lot more clear now
23:03<jordanm>Tekk: kop:
23:03<jordanm>that is the official description
23:03<kop>Kal: If you've been installing stuff from random places rather than getting all your software from the Debian repos then you'll have to expect problems and will need to do system integration.
23:04<Kal>i just installed the one from the repo and it didnt work

23:04<kop>Kal: We can help, but the easy way is to get everything from Debian.
23:04<kop>!tell Kal about doesn't work

23:04<Kal>from debian?
23:05<kop>Kal: From Debian's repos. If doing that didn't work you need to tell us more about what you did and how you know it does not work.

23:05<Kal>well i installed it everything went fine i restarted browser still no flash asking to install plugin

23:06<Kal>it was the flash-nonfree plugin that someone said before
23:06<kop>Kal: I don't know I can help. I've never used flash. But that's how you get help. For instance, you could tell us what browser.
23:07<Kal>i said it alredy iceweasel 3.5

23:08<kop>Kal: Since then you've put a bunch of stuff on your box that's not debian, or tried to, and it's hard to say what kind of cruft is left over from that. (Ok, just got here so havin't seen everything.) If you don't get help right away you can try again later. Did you follow the instructions on the debian wiki/read the <flash> factoid(s) (/msg dpkg flash)?

23:11<kop>Kal: You can manage your system as you please, but installing tarfiles means you'll need to be keeping up with security patches yourself, etc. The reason the Debian repos exist is so that that sort of stuff is done for you.
