18:00<todd>Hey, I was wondering is someone could help me with a package
18:00<sney>for the sake of the argument, it's still a debian system if you installed it from debian install media and your main repo is still debian
18:00<sney>todd: shoot
18:00<todd>I know the main commands when installing programs from a tarball source "./configure" "make "make install"

18:00<todd>when I run ./configure it has problems with glib

18:00<sney>dansan: some 3rd party repos are endorsed, some are okay and some are a bad idea, and it's left in the user's hands to make that distinction... but generally, #debian won't support 3rd party software either. the exception is semi-official stuff like debian-multimedia or
18:00<ompaul>dansan: of course there are cases when that is not true, say aptosid

22:04<hdon>how do other SMTP servers confirm that an email really came from my domain anyhow? reverse DNS?
22:04<abrotman>okay, so cyrus does lmtp and smtp, and dovecot only does smtp ?
22:04<hdon>abrotman, i can't really say. man postconf says: -a List the available SASL server plug-in types. The SASL plug-in type is selected with the smtpd_sasl_type configuration parameter by specifying one of the names listed below.
22:04<abrotman>hdon: SPF and DKIM are two possibilities .. otherwise, it gets dicey .. not many places use spf and dkim though
22:05<hdon>and -A List the available SASL client plug-in types. The SASL plug-in type is selected with the smtp_sasl_type or lmtp_sasl_type configuration parameters by specifying one of the names listed below.
