00:46<olympionex>I am trying to perform a network install of 5.0.3 using a usb flash drive boot disk that I made from the netinst cd image. All of the boot options I have tried have taken me to an installation mode that requires installing from the CD-ROM. The installation environment allows me to configure my network (although it apparently has no drivers, had to copy them over). Any ideas how I get to the actual network installer?

08:15<jm_>does it work if you close all other apps using sound device before starting the browser?

Linux supports PAE since version 2.3.23 (up to 64 GB of memory on 32-bit systems). PAE is supported by the Intel Pentium Pro/II/III/4/4M/D, Xeon, Core and Atom; AMD Geode NX, Athlon (K7), Duron, Opteron, Sempron, Turion and Phenom; Transmeta Efficeon; VIA C7 and some others. 17:33<jhutchins>Pretty standard as such things go, works great.
17:34<hpvincent>so far it went well, but I am a bit wary when the chrooted debian system try to start service like LVM or such that are already running in the outer system
17:35<rss>hpvincent: are you talking about the partition table or the partition? if the table GPT should work for you as many partions as you need them
17:35<hpvincent>rss, the partition table, but my disk is already partitionned

17:36<hpvincent>the partition containing the /boot directory is in LVM
17:36<hpvincent>anyway I'll try and see if it works :)
17:37<rss>hpvincent: If you have a standard d*s partition table then you need only consider grub loadable partitions. As far as I know lvm is supported now. a GPT partition table no langer has primary and extended limit

17:37<hpvincent>bingo; there's an lvm.mod in grub
17:38<rss>hpvincent: that means on a GPT table all partions tha grub understands are bootable.

22:53<Scramblejams>scraze, haha, nice work! Just tried --assemble --scan and the array is up!
22:53<Scramblejams>wonder how i can make it come up automatically now...
22:54-!-mode/#debian [+l 466] by debhelper
22:54<scraze>yay :} was just reading the man page, seems that --scan combined with --detail takes its information from /proc/mdstat, ie old info :]
22:54<Scramblejams>ah okay
22:54<scraze>mdadm started to require a /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf but not sure whether that's at squeeze already
22:54<scraze>should be information about that in /usr/share/doc/mdadm
22:55<rohtash>anybody here
22:55<Scramblejams>ok thanks I'll look at that. I did have a /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf but apparently that wasn't enough. will reboot and see if the effect was permanent.
22:55<dpkg>If you have a question, just ask! For example: "I have a problem with ___; I'm running Debian version ___. When I try to do ___ I get the following output ___. I expected it to do ___." 23:09<onitaL>stable or sid?
23:09<scraze>Scramblejams: hm, so it's not in /proc/mdstat or is it just marked as 'inactive' there? Also, is the double entry the only difference between mkconf's output (after assembling) and /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf ?
23:09<zito>onital, stable
23:10<Scramblejams>it's not in /proc/mdstat. /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf differs a little in that for each array (i've also got a raid1 boot drive, which is fine) it has the level and num-devices specified.
23:10<onitaL>ah, k. I asked because I saw samba being removed in sid (maybe new libs), anyways, what's the problem?

23:21<Scramblejams>scraze, I'm actually thinking that since this array is going to be history in a couple of weeks (migration), I should just put the requisite commands to get it going in /etc/rc.local and call it good.
23:22<zito>after i put \\192.168...., thereis login dialog box, n i must enter username n password
23:22<batouzo_>after installing debian 6.0.3 and partitioning my hard drive (some of partitions are base for RAID, then crypto and LVM on the RAID) my hard drive begins with 1.05 MB Free Space, then sda1, then again 1.05 fre space, then sda5,sda6 ... what is up with that?
23:23<scraze>Scramblejams: if a temporary solution suffices than indeed that would be good :] I do have one final thought though, but it's rather unlikely - perhaps a variable in /etc/default/mdadm is set to false where it should be true
23:23<onitaL>zito, k. at least that part is okay

23:27<zito>ok, hw can i get this swat ?
23:27<onitaL>zito, this is pretty much my smb.conf
23:27<scraze>Scramblejams: an even more final thought - if you're using an initrd I believe you need to rebuild after editing mdadm.conf (although references are flaky)
23:27<onitaL>the important lines are 2,4,17
23:28<onitaL>zite, is in the repos, get it with whatever package management you use
23:28<Scramblejams>scraze, the only thing false in /etc/default/mdadm is VERBOSE. I'll turn that on. I did find this, though:
23:29<onitaL>zito, try just modifing your .conf file with something like mine
23:29<onitaL>zito, line 4 disables the login, tho (that's what I assumed you wanted)
